CNTs also remarkably improve the mechanical performance of the bioderived polymer, as the elastic modulus increases up to 123% and the stress at break up to 131%. The strain at break also increases by +71% when a small amount of 0.25 phr of CNTs are added, which is probably the consequence of a more homogeneous microstructure. The long-term mechanical performance is also improved upon CNT addition, as the creep compliance decreases considerably, which was observed for both the elastic and the viscoelastic component. Finally, the films become electrically dissipative for a CNT content of 1 phr and conductive for a CNT amount of 2 phr. This study contributes to highlight the properties of bioderived furan-based polymer PDeF and evidences the potential of CNTs as a promising nanofiller for this matrix.A novel and green method for the preparation of chitosan derivatives bearing organic acids was reported in this paper. In order to improve the antioxidant activity of chitosan, eight different hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chitosan derivatives were successfully designed and synthesized via introducing of organic acids onto chitosan by mild and non-toxic ion exchange. The data of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), 13C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), 1H NMR, and elemental analysis for chitosan derivatives indicated the successful conjugation of organic acid salt with hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride chitosan (HACC). Meanwhile, the antioxidant activity of the chitosan derivatives was evaluated in vitro. The results indicated that the chitosan derivatives possessed dramatic enhancements in DPPH-radical scavenging activity, superoxide-radical scavenging activity, hydroxyl radical scavenging ability, and reducing power. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity of the synthesized compounds was investigated in vitro on L929 cells and showed low cytotoxicity. Thus, the enhanced antioxidant property of all novel chitosan products might be a great advantage, while applied in a wide range of applications in the form of antioxidant in biomedical, food, and cosmetic industry.Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is an alphavirus, transmitted by mosquitoes, which causes Chikungunya fever with symptoms of fever, rash, headache, and joint pain. In about 30%-40% of cases, the infection leads to polyarthritis and polyarthralgia. Presently, there are no treatment strategies or vaccine for Chikungunya fever. Moreover, the mechanism of CHIKV induced bone pathology is not fully understood. The modulation of host machinery is known to be essential in establishing viral pathogenesis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that regulate major cellular functions by modulating gene expression. Fascinatingly, recent reports have indicated the role of miRNAs in regulating bone homeostasis and altered expression of miRNAs in bone-related pathological diseases. In this review, we summarize the altered expression of miRNAs during CHIKV pathogenesis and the possible role of miRNAs during bone homeostasis in the context of CHIKV infection. A holistic understanding of the different signaling pathways targeted by miRNAs during bone remodeling and during CHIKV-induced bone pathology may lead to identification of useful biomarkers or therapeutics.Antidotes against organophosphates often possess physicochemical properties that mitigate their passage across the blood-brain barrier. Cucurbit[7]urils may be successfully used as a drug delivery system for bisquaternary oximes and improve central nervous system targeting. The main aim of these studies was to elucidate the relationship between cucurbit[7]uril, oxime K027, atropine, and paraoxon to define potential risks or advantages of this delivery system in a complex in vivo system. For this reason, in silico (molecular docking combined with umbrella sampling simulation) and in vivo (UHPLC-pharmacokinetics, toxicokinetics; acetylcholinesterase reactivation and functional observatory battery) methods were used. Based on our results, cucurbit[7]urils affect multiple factors in organophosphates poisoning and its therapy by (i) scavenging paraoxon and preventing free fraction of this toxin from entering the brain, (ii) enhancing the availability of atropine in the central nervous system and by (iii) increasing oxime passage into the brain. In conclusion, using cucurbit[7]urils with oximes might positively impact the overall treatment effectiveness and the benefits can outweigh the potential risks. This paper explores the impact of abusive supervision on job insecurity under the frameworks of the social cognitive theory and the leader-member exchange theory; additionally, it explores the mediating role of leader-member exchange (LMX) and the moderating role of power distance. In this study, 944 employees from two state-owned enterprises located in China were surveyed via questionnaires. Results of the correlation analysis and statistical bootstrapping showed that (i) abusive supervision was significantly and positively related to job insecurity, (ii) LMX played a mediating role in the impact of abusive supervision on job insecurity, and (iii) power distance played a moderating role in the relationship between LMX and job insecurity. Based on the social cognitive theory, this study broadens the perspective of studies regarding job insecurity. It also provides practical suggestions for avoiding abusive supervision and for alleviating employees' insecurities about management. In this study, carbon nanotube (CNT) epoxy composite films were fabricated, characterized, and tested as resonant, plasmonic metamaterials. CNT-epoxy formulations, containing diverse CNT loadings, were fabricated and templates were used to generate repeating arrays of squares of diverse dimensions. PF03084014 Their absorption characteristics were characterized by collecting free space reflectivity data in the microwave band, using an arch setup in an anechoic chamber. Data were collected from 2 to 20 GHz. The materials behavior was modeled using a standard unit-cell-based finite element model, and the experimental and calculated data were compared. The experimental results were successfully reproduced with appropriate adjustments to relative permittivity of the composite films. This research demonstrates the ability to use CNT-based conductive composites for manufacturing metamaterials, offering a potentially lighter-weight alternative in place of traditional metal films. Lower conductivity than other conductors causes a widening of the absorption curves, providing a wider band of frequency absorption.
