Effect involving Urbanization in Antibiotic Resistome in various Microplastics: Data from the Large-Scale Whole Lake Investigation.
BACKGROUND CYP4A11 gene T8590C (rs1126742) is proved to be an important locus which is relevant to hypertension. Various research on the relationship between rs1126742 polymorphism and hypertension have been published, but due to small sample sizes and limitations of the research objects, the combined results remain controversial. METHODS We searched PubMed, Embase, OVID, Web of Science, Wan Fang, and CNKI databases for related articles. Three authors individually extracted data and the quality of studies was evaluated by using the 9-point Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) independently. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated in different genetic models by using a random-effect model or fixed-effect model according to inter-study heterogeneity. Besides, subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were performed and the publication bias was assessed. RESULTS There were totally 12 independent case-control studies of 8673 cases and 6611 controls included. Significant associations were found between CYP4A11 gene T8590C polymorphism and hypertension under all genetic models (allele, homozygote, heterozygote, recessive and dominant model). see more We also found that there was no obvious relationship between the rs1126742 polymorphism and hypertension in Asian. But positive association has been found in Caucasian in allele, homozygote, recessive model. CONCLUSIONS CYP4A11 gene T8590C (rs1126742) polymorphism increases the occurrence of hypertension, particularly in Caucasian. Copyright 2020 The Author(s).BACKGROUND In 2017, the TriService Nursing Research Program completed a strategic planning session, which identified key barriers to implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) within the U.S. Military Health System (MHS) including a focus on readiness training and deployments, frequent staff moves for military members, and relatively junior nurses in clinical roles. To facilitate EBP at individual military treatment facilities (MTFs), an EPB Facilitator role was developed using an evidence-based model and based on validated EBP competencies. METHODS This new role was implemented at four MTFs in 2018 Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, 59th Medical Wing at Joint Base San Antonio Lackland, Naval Medical Center San Diego, and David Grant USAF Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base. This case series provides a description of the initial implementation of this role. RESULTS Common enablers and challenges were identified from the experiences at all four sites. These included the importance of incorporating efforts inlective impact of these roles within the MHS. This work is written by (a) US Government employee(s) and is in the public domain in the US.The present study was designed to determine the association between the genetic polymorphisms/expression variations of RB1 and CCND1 genes and brain tumor risk. For this purpose, 250 blood samples of brain tumor patients along with 250 controls (cohort I) and 96 brain tumor tissues (cohort II) with adjacent control section were collected. Mutation analysis of RB1 (rs137853294, rs121913300) and CCND1 (rs614367, rs498136) genes was performed using ARMS-PCR followed by sequencing, and expression analysis was performed using real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry. The results showed homozygous mutant genotype of RB1 gene polymorphism, rs121913300 (P=0.003) and CCND1 gene polymorphism rs614367 (P=0.01) were associated significantly with brain tumor risk. Moreover, significant down-regulation of RB1 (P=0.005) and up-regulation of CCND1 (P=0.0001) gene was observed in brain tumor sections vs controls. Spearman correlation showed significant negative correlation between RB1 vs proliferation marker, Ki-67 (r = -0.291*, P less then 0.05) in brain tumors. Expression levels of selected genes were also assessed at protein level using immunohistochemical analysis (IHC) and signification down-regulation of RB1 (P=0.0001) and up-regulation of CCND1 (P=0.0001) was observed in brain tumor compared with control sections. In conclusion, it is suggested that polymorphisms/expression variations of RB1 and CCND1 genes may be associated with increased risk of brain tumor. © 2020 The Author(s).Diabetes is a growing epidemic worldwide and among our active duty population, posing a significant threat to maintaining military health and operational readiness. Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a growing clinical phenotype of diabetes, with overlap between traditional type 1 diabetes mellitus and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In this case, a 27-year-old active duty male presented with polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, and recent weight loss. He was diagnosed with LADA, placed on a period of limited duty status and started on insulin. Eight months after diagnosis, he was transitioned from insulin to a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist in an effort to be returned to full duty status and worldwide deployable. Over 3 years after initial diagnosis, he has achieved partial clinical remission. He remains on active duty, serving on a medically limited platform with a single medication (a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist) and high compliance with a gluten-free, low-carbohydrate diet and regular exercise. One should consider the diagnosis of LADA and its unique management, especially in the younger active duty population. Not only is making the correct diagnosis regarding the type of diabetes critical in regard to prognosis and optimal medical management, but it can affect the ability of military members to remain on active duty.
