Our results provide novel advantages of phage therapy and phage-antibiotic therapy to control antibiotic-resistant bacteria.Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) could lead to a sharp increase in the levels of inflammatory cytokines. We report the efficacy of therapeutic plasma exchange in severe COVID‐19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. While various skin findings have been reported with COVID-19 infection, the chilblains lesions have been reported from Italy and Spain, and sporadically from China, the starting point of disease pandemic [2-5].Aim This study examined the influence of toxic and transformational leadership practices on nurses' job satisfaction, psychological distress, absenteeism and intent to leave the organisation or the nursing profession. Background Transformational leadership is attributed to favourable nurse consequences; however, the nursing literature is silent regarding the causal association between toxic leadership and nurses' job outcomes. Methods This is a cross-sectional study involving 770 registered nurses from 15 hospitals in Central Philippines. Data were collected using seven self-report scales during the months of December 2019 to February 2020. Results The composite scores for the transformational leadership scale and toxic leadership scale were 4.22 and 1.59, respectively. Toxic leadership predicted job satisfaction, absenteeism, psychological distress and intention to leave the profession. Transformational leadership predicted job satisfaction and intent to leave the profession. Conclusion Results suggest that nurses working with a transformational leader report higher job contentment and lower intent to leave the nursing profession. Nurses who work for a manager exhibiting toxic leadership behaviours demonstrated lower job contentment, higher stress levels, frequent absenteeism and higher intent to leave the nursing profession. Implication for nursing management Nurse retention strategies should include measures to foster transformational leadership and derail toxic leadership practices in nurse managers through evidence-based education, training and professional development.Background and aim Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are potential biomarkers for cancer risk, but their association with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is unclear. We examined the association of lncRNA-related SNPs with HCC susceptibility and explored the optimal genetic models for SNPs. Methods Five candidate SNPs linked with digestive tumors were first genotyped in a screening population of 700 HCC and 2800 control cases. The association between each SNP and HCC risk was estimated by multivariate logistic regression adjusted by sex and age and recorded as odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval. Significant associations were further tested in a validation population with 1140 HCC and 5115 control cases. Finally, the most appropriate genetic models for HCC-associated SNPs were identified using pairwise allele differences; the overall gene effects of each SNP were further evaluated based on optimal genetic models. Results Three candidate SNPs, rs7315438, rs6983267, and rs10795668, showed statistical connections with HCC risk in the discovery stage. Among these, rs7315438 remained steadily significant in the validation stage; rs7315438 and rs10795668 both reached statistical threshold in the combined analysis of both stages. SNP rs7315438 (TC vs TT/CC, OR = 1.410, P less then 0.001) was associated with increased risk of HCC in a complete overdominant model, whereas rs10795668 (AG vs AA/GG, OR = 0.892, P = 0.035) exerted a protective effect on HCC risk in a complete overdominant model. Conclusions Long non-coding RNA-related SNPs rs7315438 and rs10795668 are potential biomarkers for HCC susceptibility, especially when evaluated based on their optimal genetic models.Despite great progress in the synthesis of aluminosilicate zeolites, there are still a large number of zeolites that could not be prepared in the aluminosilicate form. One of typical examples is ITH zeolite, where direct synthesis of aluminosilicate ITH is currently still challenging. Herein, for the first time we demonstrate the successful synthesis of aluminosilicate ITH zeolite using a simple cationic oligomer as an organic template. The key to this success is that the cationic oligomer has a strong complexation ability with aluminum species combined with a structural directing ability for the ITH structure similar to that of the conventional organic template. Physicochemical analysis shows that the aluminosilicate ITH zeolite has very high crystallinity, nanosheet-like crystal morphology, large surface area, fully four-coordinated Al species, and abundant acidic sites. More importantly, methanol-to-propylene (MTP) tests reveal that the Al-ITH zeolite shows much higher selectivity for propylene and longer lifetime than commercial ZSM-5.
