This research is aimed at investigating drivers' attitudes towards connected vehicle technology in general and two connected vehicle applications in particular-Lane Speed Monitoring and High Speed Differential Warning-which have been demonstrated via simulation to be effective in enhancing traffic mobility and safety, respectively. An online survey was sent to customers of an automobile manufacturer in the United States. Out of the 1453 survey responses that were received, 650 complete and valid responses were used to analyze the respondents' stated acceptance of and expected behavioral responses to the two connected vehicle applications under a variety of scenarios. Statistical analyses were conducted to examine the influence of demographic and socioeconomic factors. The results reveal that the respondents express high willingness to use connected vehicle technology and the two applications under various circumstances, and the willingness is strongly associated with age, gender, education level, and income. Higher levels of acceptance are observed in older, male, higher-educated, or higher-income respondents, while the patterns of conditional acceptance and expected behavioral responses vary with specific scenarios. These results provide useful information for application developers, traffic operators, and policy makers to steer connected vehicle technology development and deployment in the direction that will benefit both the users and the society.

In this study, a simple, rapid and highly-sensitive quantum dot nanobeads (QBs) based lateral flow fluorescent strip immunosensor was developed for on-site detection of AFB1 in edible and medicinal lotus seeds. Carboxylated QBs were used as the fluorescent markers to prepare the fluorescent probe through coupling QBs with anti-AFB1 antibodies. Bovine serum albumin (BSA)-AFB1 antigens and goat anti-mouse IgG antibodies were coated on the nitrocellulose (NC) membrane to prepare the test (T) and control (C) lines, respectively. Qualitative analysis of AFB1 was realized by naked eye, and the quantitative determination was achieved with a portable strip reader. Results showed that the newly-developed test strip sensor could achieve rapid detection of AFB1 within 15 min, allowing a limit of detection (LOD) of 1 ng/mL (2 μg/kg) and a linear range of 1-19 ng/mL (2-38 μg/kg). Recovery rates from the fortified lotus seeds with low, medium and high spiking concentrations (2.5, 5 and 10 μg/kg) ranged from 94.0% to 116.0% with relative standard deviations less than 10%. All the results were confirmed by a standard LC-MS/MS method. The QBs-based fluorescent strip immunosensor with high sensitivity, easy operation, and low cost provided a preferred solution for rapid, on-site screening and highly-sensitive quantitation of AFB1 in a large number of lotus seed samples.
Women with preeclampsia may develop coagulopathy, predisposing to bleeding complications. Although guidelines and prior studies conflict, we hypothesized that in preeclampsia, abnormal coagulation test results are more common in women with thrombocytopenia or transaminase elevations and increase the transfusion risk. Our objectives were to investigate 1. patterns of coagulation testing; 2. relationships between platelet count, transaminase level, and the risk of abnormal coagulation tests; 3. risk of bleeding complications; and 4. characteristics of patients with markedly abnormal coagulation parameters.

We conducted a cross-sectional study of deliveries of women with preeclampsia who had undergone activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) or international normalized ratio (INR) testing at one of two hospitals between 1994 and 2018.

Of 10 699 women with preeclampsia, 3359 (32.7%) had coagulation testing performed and aPTT or INR elevations were present in 124 (3.7 %). Coagulation abnormalities were more common in women with thrombocytopenia or transaminase elevations (n=82) compared with those without (n=42) (6.7%, 95% CI 5.5 to 8.2 vs 1.8%, 95% CI 1.3 to 2.5). Transfusion was more common among women with abnormal coagulation parameters (n=124) compared with those without (n=39) (33.1 vs 7.0%, P <0.001). Among 26 patients with an aPTT ≥40 s or an INR ≥1.4, six required transfusion (all had placental abruption and disseminated intravascular coagulopathy).
