Apple juices (137 samples) and apple-containing beverages (35 samples) were collected in Taiwan from imported food and analyzed for patulin content. Results The results revealed that the incidence levels of patulin for apple juice and apple-containing beverages are 5.84% and 5.71%. The mean contamination levels were 1.7 and 1.4 μg kg-1 for apple juice and apple-containing beverages. 4μ8C One sample exceeded 50 μg kg-1 , the maximum permissible limit according to the Taiwan Sanitation Standard for the Tolerance of Mycotoxins in Foods. Finally, the hazard index (HI) for the 50th, 90th, and 95th percentiles are 0.0186, 0.1201, and 0.2048, respectively, for infants aged 0-3 years. Conclusion The dietary intake of patulin from imported apple juices and apple-containing beverages is well below the safety levels and does not present a risk for adult and children consumers. However, it is important to point out that we only analyzed imported apple juices and apple-containing beverages. Almost 100 years ago, Dr. William Gies, founder of the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, stated that to best serve the oral health needs of the population, dentistry should be considered a specialty of medicine, and dental students should have the same solid foundation in the basic and clinical sciences as medical students. More recently, the report on "Advancing Dental Education in the 21st Century" recommends an increase in the integration of dental and medical education as a means to address 2 of its key challenges "shrinking demand for dental services" and "shifting practice environment." However, it has also been argued that making dentistry and dental education a subspecialty of medicine and medical education will create logistical, structural, regulatory, and financial dilemmas. Instead of a drastic change to current dental educational, organizational, and institutional models, some argue a contemporary approach to dental education is required to ensure dentists are well prepared to address the healthcare needs of the population and future healthcare delivery systems and practice models. However, sub-seasonal responses to meteorological events (for example, storms, drought) are less well-known. Here we present the effects of meteorological variability on short-term (hours to months) dynamics of soil CO2 concentrations and emissions in a Neotropical wet forest. We continuously monitored soil temperature, moisture, and CO2 for a three-year period (2015 to 2017), encompassing normal conditions, floods, a dry El Niño period, and a hurricane. We used a coupled model (Hydrus-1D) for soil water propagation, heat transfer, and diffusive-gas transport to explain observed soil moisture, soil temperature, and soil CO2 concentration responses to meteorology, and we estimated soil CO2 efflux with a gradient-flux model. Then, we predicted changes in soil CO2 concentrations and emissions under different warming climate change scenarios. Here, a rapid, simple and extensible laboratory program for the purification of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) was developed by using differential centrifugation, ultrafiltration, Sepharose 4 fast flow gel chromatography, and CaptoTM Core 700 chromatography. The entire process recovered 61.64% of the original virus, and the purified virus particles maintained good activity and immunogenicity. The purification process described has potential application in large-scale production of high-purity JEV.Background Little is known about the delivery of surgical services and outcomes for women with ovarian cancer across New South Wales (NSW). Aim The study objective was to provide a descriptive analysis of the proportion of women who had surgery for ovarian cancer in NSW in specialist gynaecological oncology hospitals and compare outcomes for women attending specialist and non-specialist services in NSW. Materials and methods This study is a retrospective analysis of women with primary ovarian, fallopian tube or peritoneal cancer from 2009 to 2012. Data were analysed from the NSW Cancer Registry, NSW Admitted Patient Data Collection and Register of Births Deaths and Marriages. Treating hospitals were characterised as public specialist, public non-specialist and private. Morbidity and mortality outcomes are reported. Results The study included 1106 women. Fifty-seven hospitals performed surgery seven public specialist, 27 private and 23 public non-specialist hospitals. The highest proportion of surgery was performed in public specialist hospitals (61%).
