Key Blanks For Your Truck
All truck key blanks in one place. Simply select the manufacturer of your vehicle from the left column to view the various key blank options.
key truck resemble normal keys made of metal, but they have a plastic cover that houses a transponder. Truck drivers love these keys. They reduce the chances of theft by reducing the possibility of accidental duplicates.
Transponder Keys
Transponder keys, also known as chip keys, are equipped with a microchip that transmits a specific signal when they are inserted into the ignition. The computer system of the car analyzes the code and begins the engine if it matches. This technology is an improvement in anti-theft and is available on nearly every modern vehicle manufactured in the last 20 years.
It is an excellent idea to purchase an additional transponder for your vehicle as soon as you notice that it has stopped working correctly. A malfunctioning chip can cause the vehicle to stop running because it is unable to send the proper signal to its computer. This can leave you stranded and in a risky or dangerous position. It could also damage other components of your vehicle, which could result in expensive repairs.
When a transponder key starts to malfunction, it can show warning indicators on the dashboard of the vehicle. They could include warning and error messages lights, and are very helpful in determining what problem is. A professional locksmith who has experience working with transponder keys is able to help you identify the root of the issue and ensure that it is addressed prior to being stranded.
A transponder key could not function due to physical damage or a malfunction with the programming. These problems are difficult to identify and require a specialist to repair. It is important to find an auto locksmith that has experience with transponder keys, as they will be able to repair or replace them faster than a car dealership.
Non-transponder keys are made of a flat piece of metal that fits into the head of the key. The key cuts match up with the tumblers in your ignition, and are secured by spring-loaded clips on the sides. The keys can be cut by any qualified locksmith in the automotive industry, and generally cost less than a transponder key. However, they are not as safe or secure as transponder keys, and there is a higher risk of unauthorized duplicates or theft.
VATS Keys
VATS keys were commonly used in earlier GM vehicles and trucks to enhance their security. The keys work by using an embedded resistor that confirms that you're using the correct ignition key to start the vehicle. The key can also be used to shut off the engine if the incorrect ignition key is used, which could make it more difficult to steal the car and discourage thieves.
The VATS system was first utilized in the 1986 Corvette and quickly made its way to other GM vehicles. Its simplicity and efficiency allowed GM to reduce theft of vehicles that were popular. Later, more sophisticated systems such as transponder keys were made available.
Each VATS key is equipped with a resistor that is embedded within the blade of the key. The resistor is comprised of 15 different VATS codes. The VATS control module transmits an electric current to the pellet whenever the key is put in the ignition switch. This determines the vats code, or the resistance value of the key. It also informs the starter and fuel pumps that it is a mechanical key.
Two leaf contacts are situated inside the lock cylinder. They connect to the VATS pellet. The two wire pairs black/purple/white connect these to the ignition control module. These wires can break or become disconnected due to the constant flexing required to operate the lock-cylinder. The circuit also has the small two-wire connector located at the bottom of the steering column that can fail from wear, moisture or stress.
By placing the leads of an Ohm meter on the resistor, and reading the Ohms, you can determine the resistance of the key pelle. The ohms are then match to the vats code in a VATS code chart. This can assist a locksmith determine the correct VATS key blank to cut when the customer requires an replacement key. This is also known as VATS relearn. The same process can be used to reset Passlock or Passkey on GM vehicles. This is a simple but time-consuming process that requires the correct tools.
Key Fobs
Key fobs are small electronic device that can replace the physical key for your vehicle. The fob has an RFID chip that can transmit an unique code that allows you to unlock the door locks. The fob can also be programmed to allow some users access, while preventing others from accessing. Fobs are also frequently used in commercial settings to manage parking areas' access and to automate the process of closing and opening gates or doors.
Fob batteries need to be replaced regularly. Batteries are available online, at big box stores and hardware stores. You can change the battery yourself If you're skilled. You can find the complete instructions in your owner's manual or you can watch YouTube videos that explain the steps to follow.
If you need a new fob to go with your car, it's usually best to visit the dealership. Depending on your vehicle's make and model you may require technical expertise only accessible at the dealer's service center.
Fob technology is changing and the latest smart fobs can offer a range of additional capabilities. Certain fobs, for instance, can combine a short-range signal to open a door and an extended range signal to open a gate for parking into one device, removing the need to carry separate devices. Fobs may also feature numerous buttons and LED indicators to inform you if the fob is inactive or active.
Advanced fobs also utilize encryption and other security measures to protect against attacks to hack. Fob credentials that are not encrypted could be copied or cloned however newer fobs employ rolling codes that generate and transmit a new code each time you press a button. The constantly changing codes make it very challenging for bad actors to clone or hack fobs.
Some smart key fobs can be connected to your smartphone, and can communicate with other IoT devices to offer more automated functions. A smart key fob, as an example can be connected to a smart thermostat or home security system to adjust to your commute time and your location.
Keyless Entry
Keyless entry is a convenient feature that eliminates the necessity of inserting your keys. Simply press the button on your key fob to unlock the vehicle and get on your way. This feature is especially useful for companies that have large fleets, since it offers greater efficiency and ease-of-use.
This technology also provides increased security, as the majority of keyless entry systems employ advanced encryption technology that makes it impossible to break. This can help prevent theft particularly when combined with other security features, such as GPS tracking. This is also an advantage for fleets that manage their vehicles with integrated software as it provides an accurate image of the whereabouts of each vehicle at all times.
Kits for passive keyless access are available from VAIS Technology to equip virtually every vehicle model with keyless access. This lets the driver lock their car before they hit a handle, turn their lights on as they approach, or turn on any of the other electronic devices that are activated by proximity.
Keyless entry isn't a fad. It's a part of modern day automotive technology. It's obvious that remote starts and keyless access are regular features in 62% of the latest automobiles. However, it's important to note that your key fob may be stolen if not secured appropriately. When not in use, it's recommended to store your keyfob in a bag or box that blocks signals. You should also park in garages.
