Fractures of the radial head are common and account for one-third of elbow fractures. Management has evolved over the past few decades as have the techniques and implants used to treat them. However, no standardized treatment protocol exists because of the complexity with which these fractures may present. The complex, unstable, displaced, and multi-fragmentary fractures, also known as Mason type III fractures, remain one of the most challenging fractures to treat, especially if associated with other elbow injuries. There are various surgical treatment options available, including open reduction and internal fixation or radial head arthroplasty. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the current literature that assessed open reduction and internal fixation compare to radial head replacement to identify the best surgical treatment protocol for the management of Mason type III radial head fracture. All published clinical trials claiming to evaluate or cited elsewhere as being authoritative regarding the surgical treatment of radial head fractures were identified and evaluated. Studies in foreign languages (not in English) were excluded. Trastuzumab Emtansine Based on two randomized controlled trials, this review showed some weak evidence that arthroplasty results in better functional elbow outcomes and lower complication rates as compared to open reduction and internal fixation. There is a scarcity of good quality comparative studies and multicenter randomized controlled trials should be considered. Statin-induced immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy is an autoimmune condition wherein there is a destruction of normal skeletal muscular architecture that can be severely debilitating if not recognized promptly. Given its rarity, management is a challenge. We present one such case that was managed with aggressive immunosuppression. Copyright © 2020, Madgula et al.Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is the most common cause of in-patient hospitalizations during the first half of pregnancy. The etiology of HG has not yet been elucidated, and the treatment is mainly symptomatic. Untreated severe HG can lead to catastrophic maternal complications such as cardiac arrhythmia and death. In contrast, the impact of untreated severe HG on the fetuses remains contradictory. Evidence suggested that HG may increase the risk of a small for gestational age (GA) fetus. We here report a case of 32-year-old nulliparous woman, GA of 14 weeks, who presented with worsening HG and later had a diagnosis of missed abortion. More research is needed to clarify the possibility of HG as a contributory cause of abortion. It is often a paraneoplastic manifestation of internal malignancy. Hence, early recognition of this disorder is important. Although not all dermatomyositis are associated with malignancies, the ones with such association regress with the treatment of associated malignancy. In clinical practice, symptoms of muscle weakness can be vague, and skin lesions can be dismissed as sunburn. We present a case of an elder adult female who presented with dermatomyositis as a paraneoplastic syndrome secondary to an underlying Mullerian malignancy. PATIENTS AND METHODS Thirty-two patients with a follow-up period of at least 12 months who underwent operation between August 2010 and October 2018 due to the presence of solitary enchondroma of the hand were included in the study. All patients underwent complete curettage and filling of the defect via autologous bone grafting. Autologous bone graft was harvested from the iliac crest and distal radius in 24 and eight patients, respectively. The patients underwent radiography on the first postoperative visit and at six weeks, 12 weeks, and annually. The range of movement of the finger joint was evaluated by comparing it with the healthy contralateral side. Functional outcomes and radiologic outcomes were evaluated. The frequency of complications and recurrences were eyright © 2020, Çapkin et al.OBJECTIVE This work presents a device for non-invasive wound parameters assessment, designed to overcome the drawbacks of traditional methods, which are mostly rough, inaccurate, and painful for the patient. The device estimates the morphological parameters of the wound and provides augmented reality (AR) visual feedback on the wound healing status by projecting the wound border acquired during the last examination, thus improving doctor-patient communication. METHODS An accurate 3D model of the wound is created by stereophotogrammetry and refined through self-organizing maps. The 3D model is used to estimate physical parameters for wound healing assessment and integrates AR functionalities based on a miniaturized projector. The physical parameter estimation functionalities are evaluated in terms of precision, accuracy, inter-operator variability, and repeatability, whereas AR wound border projection is evaluated in terms of accuracy on the same phantom. RESULTS The accuracy and precision of the device are respectively 2% and 1.2% for linear parameters, and 1.7% and 1.3% for area and volume. The AR projection shows an error distance less then 1 mm. No statistical difference was found between the measurements of different operators. CONCLUSION The device has proven to be an objective and non-operator-dependent tool for assessing the morphological parameters of the wound. Comparison with non-contact devices shows improved accuracy, offering reliable and rigorous measurements. Clinical Impact Chronic wounds represent a significant health problem with high recurrence rates due to the ageing of the population and diseases such as diabetes and obesity. The device presented in this work provides an easy-to-use non-invasive tool to obtain useful information for treatment.
