Enzymatic hydrolysis was evaluated using three traditional glucuronidases, four sulfatases and four recombinant enzymes. Although enzymatic hydrolysis increased the concentration of 16-carboxymitragynine, it had nominal benefit for other metabolites. Deconjugation of urine was not necessary due to the abundance of parent drug (mitragynine), its diastereoisomers (speciociliatine and speciogynine) or metabolites (9-O-demethylmitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine). A total of ten 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase producing PGPR isolates were selected and evaluated for the induction of drought stress tolerance in tomato. Among the selected PGPR, maximum seed (laboratory) and plant growth promotion (greenhouse) was observed in tomato seeds bacterized with Bacillus subtilis Rhizo SF 48. The genomic study confirmed the presence of ACC deaminase gene in Rhizo SF 48 and the obtained sequence was deposited to the NCBI database with the Accession No. MK652706. The tomato plants grown upon treatment with Rhizo SF 48 significantly enhanced plant growth even after exposing to different levels of drought stress as compared to stress induced control plants. About 7.5% and 38% increase in RWC were observed in Rhizo SF 48 treated tomato plants grown under well-watered and stress conditions (S4) compared to their control plants, respectively. An increase of 0.76, 0.23 and 0.78 fold in proline, SOD and APX activity and a decrease of 0.3 fold in MDA and H2O2 contents were observed in Rhizo SF 48 treated plants compared to control plants grown under S4 conditions. The histo-chemical studies showed lower accumulations of H2O2 and superoxide anion in the leaves of Rhizo SF 48 treated plants under drought stress, which was in confirmation with the quantification results of H2O2 and SOD. The qRT-PCR studies on drought (Le25) and ethylene responsive factor (SlERF84) marker genes showed that a significant decrease of 0.75 and 0.81 folds, respectively in Le25 and SlERF84 accumulation was observed in Rhizo SF 48 treated plants compared to untreated plants grown under S4 conditions. From the results, it can be attributed that ACC deaminase producing Rhizo SF 48 was able to protect tomato plants against oxidative damage caused due to drought stress and enhanced plant growth promotion. It can be concluded that ACC deaminase producing Rhizo SF 48 can serve as a useful bio-inoculant for sustainable tomato production in arid and semi-arid regions with water deficit. BACKGROUND Military women are faced with unique circumstances, including frequent relocation and occupational factors that may influence their participation in routine cervical cancer screening. No data on programmatic participation in cervical cancer screening in Canadian Armed Forces women has been synthesized to date. OBJECTIVE To estimate cervical cancer screening rates in Canadian military women using clinical and administrative data sources. METHODS Actively serving Regular Force females who were >25 years of age between January 1st 2015 and December 31st 2017 were included in the study. Scanned documents containing Papanicolaou (Pap) test results were extracted from electronic health records and further linked to demographic data sources. Screening coverage rates were calculated over the three-year study period, and results were stratified by both military command and rank. RESULTS The study period yielded over 23,000 person-years of data. The average screening rate over this period was 77.7 %, and was highest in the 45-60 year age group. Variations in rates were observed by rank and command, with higher screening rates observed in Officers and Royal Canadian Navy staff. Overall, screening rates showed a declining trend for all groups across the study period. The objective of this work was to evaluate time-to-treatment and survival in relation to cancer-related diagnostic and treatment technologies of the diagnosing hospital. METHODS Colorectal tumor-level data from George Cancer Registry was merged with hospital-level cancer technology data from the American Hospital Association (2010-2015). Cox proportional hazard models were used to model time-to-treatment and time-to-death following cancer diagnosis with cancer-related technologies for colon and rectosigmoid/rectal tumors, stratified by race and controlling for personal and tumor characteristics. RESULTS Black individuals experienced lower likelihood of treatment (HR 0.92, 95 % CI 0.89, 0.96) for colon tumors, but not significantly different survival (HR 1.03, 95 % CI 0.98, 1.09). Larger capacity or size indicators (total surgical operations, emergency room visits, and licensed beds) were associated with higher likelihood of treatment in whites, but not blacks. Higher counts of treatment related technologies were associated with better survival in whites (HR = 0.92, 95 % CI 0.85, 0.99), but not blacks (HR 1.07, 95 % CI 0.95, 1.19). Virtual colonoscopy emerged as a technology related to survival favorably in whites (HR 0.84, 95 % CI 0.77, 0.92) and blacks (HR 0.89, 95 % CI 0.79, 1.00). Overall results were similar for rectosigmoid/rectal tumors as observed for colon tumors. CONCLUSION The role of cancer-related technologies presence or utilization for colorectal cancer outcomes and potential racial disparities warrants further research. BACKGROUND This study investigated the association of breast lobular involution status and three inflammatory markers as predictors of survival among breast cancer patients in the Multiethnic Cohort. METHODS Lobular involution was evaluated in tissue sections of normal breast tissue and COX-2, TNF-α, and TGF-β proteins were assessed by immunohistochemistry in tumor microarrays. A summary score added the expression levels of the three markers. Cox regression was applied to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CI) with age as the time metric and adjustment for factors known to affect mortality. RESULTS Among 254 women (mean age = 61.7 ± 8.7 years) with pathologic blocks and follow-up information, 54 all-cause and 10 breast cancer-specific deaths were identified after a mean follow-up time of 16.0 ± 3.1 years. For 214 participants, an inflammatory score was available and 157 women had information on lobular involution. Lobular involution was not significantly associated with survival.
