Atypical glandular cells (AGC) as a diagnostic category in cervicovaginal cytology remains as a challenge to cytopathologists.

The aim of the present study is to identify the cytological features helpful in categorizing AGC as reactive or neoplastic upon correlation with histology.

The study was a retrospective review of cervical smears, with histopathological follow up, reported as glandular lesions for a period of 9 years. The architectural and nuclear features studied were adapted from The Bethesda System (TBS) to stratify the lesions as AGC, AGC-FN (atypical glandular cells favour neoplasia) and adenocarcinoma. The cytological categories were correlated with histology.

A total of 89 cases of which 67 (AGC NOS = 34, AGC FN = 19, adenocarcinoma = 14) with histology were reviewed. Merbarone Neoplastic lesions were encountered in 14 cases (34.6%). Of the cases diagnosed as AGC-NOS, AGC-FN and adenocarcinoma, 26.5%, 68.4% and 100% respectively were neoplastic on histopathology. Squamous lesions accounted for 14.stratifying glandular lesions at cytology according to TBS helps in the management.Few-layer porous graphene is a promising material for a variety of fields. However, the synthesis of few-layer porous graphene is a great challenge. Here we report a feasible green path to produce few-layer porous graphene, which was exfoliated from high-pressure graphite balls onto microspheres with rough surfaces by a mild rolling transfer process. Ordinary ball milling equipment was adopted for the low-speed (100 rpm) ball-microsphere rolling transfer process. The rolling time ( less then 10 min) was controlled to obtain porous graphene instead of graphene. The porous graphene on the exfoliating microspheres was then easily dispersed in solution by bath sonication. The product contains very few impure functional groups. The hole size and layer distribution of the few-layer porous graphene have been demonstrated to be 2.37±1.17 nm and 2.4±0.7 layers, respectively, and can be adjusted by redesigning the surface of the microspheres.
The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of the ultrasonic piezoelectric inserts of EMS Steel Tip A, EMS Peek, and IS-TiP-STS-3E
in reducing peri-implant bacterial load without compromising the surface of implants during professional oral hygiene in the follow-up.

Thirteen implants were examined (Winsix, Biosafin, Ancona, Italy). The implants were divided into five groups and analyzed with a SEM microscope and microbiological analysis to evaluate the possible modification of structure and the bacterial load reduction.

The control and A, B, and C test groups were initially contaminated in vitro with Streptococcus mutans. Subsequently, the A, B, and C test groups were treated by an only expert operator in standard conditions. Test groups A, B, and C were inoculated for 3 hr and, furthermore, microbiologically analyzed.

The gold standard of an implant maintenance is a significant reduction of the bacterial load without becoming aggressive. According to our results, despite the limitations of the study, the authors recommend the least aggressive IS-TiP-STS-3E
, but combined with an antimicrobial agent to reduce the bacterial load, because the IS-TiP-STS-3E
did not show appreciable results versus the EMS Peek in reducing the bacterial load.

We investigated the effect of arterial stiffness on the severity of enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVSs) and cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) at different brain locations.

A total of 854 stroke patients underwent both brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) measurement and brain MRI. The extent of EPVS was separately rated at the levels of the basal ganglia (BG) and centrum semiovale (CS). The CMBs were categorized as strictly lobar CMB and deep CMB. The patients were categorized according to baPWV quartiles, and multivariable logistic regressions were performed to evaluate whether the baPWV increment was independently associated with each cerebral SVD marker at different locations. The odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was derived on the reference of the first quartile.

Severe EPVSs at BG and CS were detected in 243 (28.5%) and 353 patients (41.3%), respectively. The increment of baPWV quartiles was associated with both severe BG EPVS burden (Q4 OR=2.58, CI=1.45-4.60) and severe CS EPVS burden (Q4 OR=2.06, CI=1.24-3.42). Deep CMBs were found in 259 patients (30.3%), and strictly lobar CMBs were found in 170 patients (19.9%). Multivariable logistic regression model revealed deep CMB was independently associated with the baPWV increment (Q4 OR=2.52, CI=1.62-3.94). However, strictly lobar CMB had a neutral relationship with baPWV.

Increased arterial stiffness is consistently associated with the presence of deep CMB and severe EPVS burden at the BG and CS, suggesting a common pathophysiologic mechanism.

Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) are permissive to ZIKV infection and may carry ZIKV to the placenta. To identify pregnancy-related differences in PBMC responses against ZIKV infection, we compared gene expression profiles of ZIKV-infected and non-infected PBMCs cultured from pregnant and non-pregnant women. ZIKV-infected pregnant conditions generally overexpressed M1-shifted pro-inflammatory responses and underexpressed M2-shifted anti-inflammatory responses. Additionally, transcripts involved in osteoclast differentiation and cardiac myopathies were upregulated following ZIKV infection. Our results suggest potential roles of pregnancy-induced immune dysregulation in shaping neonatal pathology associated with ZIKV infection.
