With the groundbreaking ceremony held this past April, the battery production hub comprises a pair of core zones. The primary area encompasses the battery assembly line that operates fully automated via state-of-the-art robotics, laser welding systems for accuracy and Charge Coupled Device (CCD) for cross-checking the standards of battery with its master unit before its installation in a 100% electric vehicle. The other core zone is designated for battery testing and validation which involves over 60 processes including Charge & Discharge, air leak detection, Insulation Test as well as Static Test. The production line can produce up to fifty thousand cell-to-pack EV battery packs annually, offering quality standards on par with batteries made for global markets. Battery packs produced from the production facility will be initially deployed on MG4 ELECTRIC and other upcoming models going forward. Currently, the plant is undergoing preparatory production phases and is expected for official operations to commence next year.

Mr. Zhao Feng, CEO at SAIC Motor-CP, said, "This battery production plant represents a key element in the masterplan for the New Energy Industrial Estate located inside WHA ESIE 2 industrial zone in Thailand's Chonburi earmarked towards the domestic manufacture of electric vehicles. Along with an added investment outlay of 500 million baht, the plant has been configured for the manufacture of cell-to-pack (CTP) electric vehicle battery packs utilizing an innovative cube battery design. With the robust growth as well as increasing potential for Thailand's electric vehicle segment, SAIC MOTOR CORPORATION and HASCO-CP recognize the prospects to become the production hub for EVs catering to domestic and international distribution, particularly across ASEAN countries."
