50 (95% CI 1.13-1.97)] (E-value for point estimate=2.37) and during both trimesters of pregnancy [RR 1.41 (95% CI 1.03-1.89)] (E-value for point estimate=2.17). However, we found insufficient statistical evidence for an association between paternal smoking during pregnancy and risk of tobacco smoking in offspring [RR 1.18 (95% CI 0.84-1.67)].

Maternal prenatal tobacco exposure was associated with an increased risk of tobacco smoking in offspring at the age of 17years. Tobacco smoking cessation at the early stages of gestation may reduce the risk of tobacco smoking in the next generation.

Treatment completion is associated with abstinence outcomes in smoking cessation interventions. Previous research has stated that anxiety sensitivity (AS) is associated with smoking-related variables and smoking-cessation outcomes. To date, research has not examined the interaction between AS and treatment completion on smoking-cessation outcomes over time. This study aims to examine the main and the interactive effects of treatment completion and AS (total score and specific dimensions) on smoking-cessation outcomes at 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-ups.

The sample consisted of 210 smokers enrolled in an eight-session smoking-cessation cognitive-behavioral treatment (62.1% women; M
=45.2, SD=11.0). Participants were classified as completers (attended the eight treatment sessions) and non-completers (attended≤7 sessions). Abstinence was biochemically confirmed.

Main effects indicated that completers had a higher likelihood of being abstinent over time when compared to non-completers. Regarding AS, those with greater AS-Physical Concerns had lower abstinence rates. Besides, a significant interaction between treatment completion, time and AS-Physical Concerns was found. Particularly, completers with greater AS-Physical Concerns had a higher likelihood of being abstainers than non-completers over time, while no significant differences were found for those with lower AS-Physical Concerns.

These data highlight the relevance of AS-Physical levels and smoking-cessation treatment completion on abstinence outcomes over time among treatment-seeking smokers.

Similarly, lysosome membrane protein 2-like (LMP2L) is a gene identified in fish but with unknown function. In this study, we examined the regulation mechanism and function of flounder miR-150 (named pol-miR-150) and its target gene LMP2L (named PoLMP2L) in association with bacterial and viral infection. We found that pol-miR-150 expression was not only modulated by the bacterial pathogen Streptococcus iniae but also by the viral pathogen megalocytivirus. Pol-miR-150 targeted PoLMP2L by binding to the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of PoLMP2L and inhibited PoLMP2L expression in vitro and in vivo. PoLMP2L is a member of the CD36 superfamily of scavenger receptors and homologous to but phylogenetically distinct from lysosomal integral membrane protein type 2 (LIMP2). PoLMP2L was localized mainly in the lysosomes and expressed in multiple organs of flounder. In vivo knockdown and overexpression of PoLMP2L enhanced and suppressed, respectively, S. iniae dissemination in flounder tissues, whereas in vivo knockdown and overexpression of pol-miR-150 produced the opposite effects on S. iniae dissemination. In addition, pol-miR-150 knockdown also significantly inhibited the replication of megalocytivirus. The results of this study revealed the regulation mechanism and immune functions of fish miR-150 and LMP2L, and indicated that LMP2L and miR-150 play an important role in the antimicrobial immunity of fish.In this review of assays of Na+/K+-ATPase (NKA), we explore the choices made by researchers assaying the enzyme to investigate its role in physiological regulation. We survey NKA structure and function in the context of how it is typically assayed, and how technical choices influence what can be said about the enzyme. In comparing different methods for extraction and assay of NKA, we identified a series of common pitfalls that compromise the veracity of results. We include experimental work to directly demonstrate how choices in detergents, salts and substrates influence NKA activities measured in crude homogenates. Our review of assay approaches integrates what is known from enzymology, biomedical physiology, cell biology and evolutionary biology, offering a more robust method for assaying the enzyme in meaningful ways, identifying caveats and future directions to explore its structure and function. The goal is to provide the sort of background on the enzyme that should be considered in exploring the function of the enzyme in comparative physiology. The interpretation of thermal-gradient data depends on the behavioral drives reported or assumed, and on the underlying behavioral models explaining how such drives operate. The best-known example is positive thermotaxis, a thermoregulatory behavioral drive frequently linked to a dual set-point model of thermoregulation around a target range. This behavioral drive is often assumed as dominant among 'ectotherms', including amphibians. However, we argue that, because amphibians are extremely diverse, they may exhibit alternative behavioral drives in thermal gradients, and tackle this idea from two perspectives. First, we provide a historical review of original definitions and proposed limits for inference. Second, although caveats apply, we propose that a cross-study analysis of data of temperature settings of gradients and the temperatures selected by amphibians would corroborate alternative behavioral drives, including negative thermotaxis. Therefore, we analyzed published data focusing on such relationships and show that gradient temperature settings influence the temperatures selected by amphibians, with further effects of phylogeny and ontogeny.
