The majority of cutaneous melanomas are cured surgically, but a significant proportion are either metastatic at presentation or recur following resection. Historically, outcomes for patients with advanced melanoma were poor due to a paucity of effective treatment options. However, the past decade has seen the introduction of targeted therapies and immunotherapies which have revolutionised the treatment of advanced melanoma. This review will cover the systemic treatment of melanoma, with a description of available therapeutic agents, followed by a review of systemic treatments for metastatic, adjuvant and neoadjuvant melanoma.For all primary cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCCs), physical examination should include full skin examination, recording of tumour diameter and regional lymph-node–basin status. Surgery is the treatment of choice, with a minimal 5-mm margin. For elderly patients with well-differentiated tumours, other surgical modalities can be explored. Surgery for organ-transplant recipients should not be delayed. The issue with cSCC is identifying high-risk tumours with staging, as this may alter treatment and follow-up schedules. Adjuvant radiation therapy should be considered for incomplete resection, when re-excision is impossible or there are poor-prognosis histological findings. Recommendations are at least biannual dermatological surveillance for 2 years, but in elderly patients with small, well-differentiated tumours long-term follow-up is not always necessary. In case of positive lymph nodes, radical dissection is needed, with regional postoperative adjuvant radiation. Advanced cSCCs are defined as unresectable local, regional or distant disease requiring systemic treatment. Their only approved treatment is the PD-1 inhibitor, cemiplimab. Trials evaluating adjuvant or neo-adjuvant anti-PD-1 are ongoing. Platin-based chemo or anti-epidermal growth-factor–receptor therapies are possible second-line treatments. For transplant patients, minimizing immunosuppression and switching to sirolimus must be considered at first appearance of cSCC.OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of the inclusion of motor imagery (MI) principles into early physical therapy on pain, disability, pressure pain thresholds (PPTs), and range of motion in the early postsurgical phase after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS A randomized clinical trial including patients with knee osteoarthritis who have received TKA was conducted. Participants were randomized to receive five treatment sessions of either physical therapy with or without MI principles in an early postsurgical phase after a TKA (five days after surgery). Pain intensity (visual analog scale [VAS], 0-100), pain-related disability (short-form Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index [WOMAC], 0-32), pressure pain thresholds (PPTs), and knee range of motion were assessed before and after five daily treatment sessions by an assessor blinded to the subject's condition. RESULTS Twenty-four participants completed data collection and treatment. The adjusted analysis revealed significant group*time interactions for WOMAC (F = 17.29, P = 0.001, η2 = 0.48) and VAS (F = 14.56, P  0.30). CONCLUSIONS The application of MI to early physiotherapy was effective for improving pain and disability, but not range of motion or pressure pain sensitivity, in the early postsurgical phase after TKA in people with knee osteoarthritis. © The Author(s) 2020. One of the main strategies to manage resistance is the use of refuge areas, the success of which is in part dependent on larval movement of the target pest. Thus, in order to assess the viability of a refuge strategy addressing Spodoptera eridania Stoll (Lepidoptera Noctuidae) in Bt soybean, it was evaluated the larval movement across plants in Bt and non-Bt soybean, as well as the larval development and mortality on Bt and non-Bt soybean cultivars. We concluded that apparent S. eridania incomplete resistance resulting from high larval mortality and low adaptability on Bt plants, high larval dispersal, nondirectional larval movement, and random larval spatial dispersion suggest that structured refuge is more suitable than mixed refuge for managing resistance in S. eridania populations. © The Author(s) 2020. This is likely due to their high inherent tolerance to certain chemicals, although there are increasing concerns around emerging resistance. Despite this, there have been no studies worldwide investigating insecticide sensitivity shifts on S. viridis. Further, there is currently no established method to test the response of S. viridis to neonicotinoids, which are now widely used to protect many crops attacked by this species. Here, we established a robust and sensitive bioassay methodology to test neonicotinoids against S. viridis. We also generated important sensitivity data for the first time across multiple S. viridis populations from geographically distinct regions in Australia to two commonly used insecticides, omethoate, and imidacloprid.
