Convenience

A built-in microwave oven will save you counter space and give your kitchen a sleeker appearance. It can be used to cook leftovers, frozen food, and packaged food items. It can eliminate the need for separate countertop appliances or large wall ovens. A combination microwave oven can also be a good choice for those who want to modernize your kitchen without undergoing any major remodeling projects.

You can find microwave ovens that come in various styles to match the decor of your kitchen. Some have a right-to-left swing-out door, while others have a drop-down design that opens the same way as a traditional oven. There is also microwave ovens that have an open-type drawer that opens like an open cabinet. Microwave drawers are easy to reach and are great for smaller spaces where you want to minimize the use of counter space.

Combination microwaves also come with various features that simplify meal preparation and make it more efficient. For instance, some models have a sensor steam cycle that automatically adjusts the time and temperature of your food items to ensure you receive perfect steamed fish and vegetables. Other features include the broil element, which lets you quickly melt cheese and cook your favorite food. Crispwave(tm) is meanwhile, can grill, bake, and crisp food items.

When choosing a microwave combination, be sure to think about how often you'll be using each function. If you'll be using the oven more often than the micro, you may prefer an extra wall oven. A combo oven has a smaller capacity than an individual oven.

Over-the range models are mounted over the stovetop or cooktop and connected to a power outlet. Built-in microwaves can be incorporated on walls or cabinets in your kitchen. Some models come with trim kits that let you effortlessly integrate your new microwave into the cabinets in your kitchen.

Energy Efficiency

Built-in microwave ovens are a great option for those who have smaller kitchens in their house or apartment. They can save space in cabinets which would otherwise be taken by separate appliances, and also cut down on energy usage. They are more energy efficient than traditional wall ovens and offer an efficient method to cook. Additionally, they can usually be used to cook warm and hot dishes, which reduces the requirement for additional appliances like toasters or warming plates.

DOE performs several analyses when evaluating potential amendments to energy conservation standards. These include market and technology assessments, screening analyses, engineering analyses, and a national impact analysis (NIA). For this SNOPR, DOE will rely on its existing engineering analysis of microwave ovens to determine the maximum efficiency improvements that are technologically feasible for this product category.

DOE will compare the design of a microwave with the energy performance goals set in the engineering analysis. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.

As part of NIA, DOE will assess the impact on consumers, such as the cost savings over the lifecycle, as well as the simple payback period (PBP). DOE will use the Government Regulatory Impact Model, with an adaptation for ovens that can be microwaved, to determine the industry's net present value (NPV).

DOE will also examine the impacts on manufacturers, and will use a modified industry cash flow model adapted to this product type to calculate manufacturing NPV. In addition, DOE will consider the potential impact on small business manufacturers as well as other subgroups of manufacturers to identify any that could be disproportionally affected by these proposals.

DOE will also consider whether the test procedure for microwave ovens requires to be updated in order to include active mode power consumption as well as an energy use measure. Currently, tests only include standby mode power consumption.

Design

Microwaves produce heat through the process of causing water molecules to vibrate in food. in built oven and microwave are based on the circulation of hot air, while microwaves rely on waves to cause food molecules to vibrate. Combination wall units combine these two appliances into a single unit, saving space in the kitchen and offering a sleek modern aesthetic. You should carefully think about your budget and needs before investing in a combination wall oven. Many of the combination wall ovens we have rated have issues with performance or design.
