Among the 16 cases investigated, 9 harbored a MAML2 rearrangement and were reclassified as Warthin-like MEC. The remaining 7 cases were classified as LADs with 1 nonsebaceous and 6 sebaceous cases. The disease was later named the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). The transmission routes of COVID-19 include respiratory transmission, aerosol transmission, and contact transmission. Many dental diagnosis and treatment procedures generate droplets and aerosols, and thus both dental staff and patients are at a high risk of becoming infected and transmitting COVID-19 to others. Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital is a comprehensive hospital with 18 craniofacial-/dental-related departments. During the outbreak of COVID-19 and up to the present date, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in this hospital thanks to strict protocols for infection prevention and control. In this communication, we would like to share with the prosthodontic community our experience in the prevention and control of COVID-19 in our dental departments and hope it will contribute to the worldwide efforts to overcome the global COVID-19 pandemic.Least Cost Path (LCP) analysis allows a user to define a cost parameter through which cost of movement can be assessed using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). These analyses are commonly used to construct theoretical movement through a landscape, which has been useful for creating hypotheses concerning prehistoric archaeology and landscape genomics. However, LCP analysis is commonly employed without testing the generated LCP(s), complicating its usefulness as a methodological tool. This paper proposes a model for analyzing movement in ArcGIS by using topography data to calculate slope. This slope data is then then used to calculate LCPs based on travel time and kilocalorie expenditure. LCPs were constructed in the Nature Preserve at Binghamton University, a 182-acre area that consists of wetland and mountainous terrain, and a Fitbit® Surge activity monitor was used to test the accuracy of the model's predictions. Paired sample t-tests show a lack of significant difference between calculated and walked time in our analysis (p = .953), suggesting that our model can estimate travel time between two points based solely on slope of the region. Paired sample t-tests also show a lack of significant difference between calculated and observed kilocalorie expenditure (p = .930), suggesting that our model is also capable of estimating kilocalorie expenditure associated with movement between two points. Finally, paired sample t-tests confirm that straight line distances do not reflect real movement through a terrain (p = .009), highlighting the need for alternate measures of movement when analyzing the effects of local landscape on movement. Our current model shows strength in its estimations of travel time and kilocalorie expenditure based on topography of a region-future iterations of the model need to establish the statistical similarity between our model's estimations and recorded values for walking time and kilocalorie expenditure.Understanding how the protozoan protein degradation pathway is regulated could uncover new parasite biology for drug discovery. We found the COP9 signalosome (CSN) conserved in multiple pathogens such as Leishmania, Trypanosoma, Toxoplasma, and used the severe diarrhea-causing Entamoeba histolytica to study its function in medically significant protozoa. We show that CSN is an essential upstream regulator of parasite protein degradation. Genetic disruption of E. histolytica CSN by two distinct approaches inhibited cell proliferation and viability. Both CSN5 knockdown and dominant negative mutation trapped cullin in a neddylated state, disrupting UPS activity and protein degradation. In addition, zinc ditiocarb (ZnDTC), a main metabolite of the inexpensive FDA-approved globally-available drug disulfiram, was active against parasites acting in a COP9-dependent manner. ZnDTC, given as disulfiram-zinc, had oral efficacy in clearing parasites in vivo. Our findings provide insights into the regulation of parasite protein degradation, and supports the significant therapeutic potential of COP9 inhibition.
