Laboratory-scale experiments for the modification of Al2O3 inclusions by calcium treatment in high-carbon hard wire steel were performed and the compositions and morphological evolution of inclusions were studied. The kinetics of the modification of Al2O3 inclusions by calcium treatment were studied in high-carbon hard wire steel based on the unreacted shrinking core model, considering the transfer of Ca and Al through the boundary layer and within the product layer, coupled with thermodynamic equilibrium at the interfaces. The diffusion of Al in the inclusion layer was the limiting link in the inclusion modification process. The Ca concentration in molten steel had the greatest influence on the inclusion modification time. The modification time for inclusions tended to be longer in the transformation of higher CaO-containing calcium aluminate. The modification of Al2O3 into CA6 was fastest, while the most time was needed to modify CA into C12A7. It took about six times time longer at the later stage of inclusion modification than at the early stage. The complete modification time for inclusions increased with the square of their radii. The changes of CaO contents with melting time were estimated based on a kinetic model and was consistent with experimental results.Research has shown that the ability to integrate complementary sensory inputs into a unique and coherent percept based on spatiotemporal coincidence can improve perceptual precision, namely multisensory integration. Despite the extensive research on multisensory integration, very little is known about the principal mechanisms responsible for the spatial interaction of multiple sensory stimuli. Furthermore, it is not clear whether the size of spatialized stimulation can affect unisensory and multisensory perception. The present study aims to unravel whether the stimulated area's increase has a detrimental or beneficial effect on sensory threshold. Sixteen typical adults were asked to discriminate unimodal (visual, auditory, tactile), bimodal (audio-visual, audio-tactile, visuo-tactile) and trimodal (audio-visual-tactile) stimulation produced by one, two, three or four devices positioned on the forearm. Results related to unisensory conditions indicate that the increase of the stimulated area has a detrimental effect on auditory and tactile accuracy and visual reaction times, suggesting that the size of stimulated areas affects these perceptual stimulations. Concerning multisensory stimulation, our findings indicate that integrating auditory and tactile information improves sensory precision only when the stimulation area is augmented to four devices, suggesting that multisensory interaction is occurring for expanded spatial areas.Background The prevalence of dependency personality disorder is high among elderly individuals with a low level of social support. The objective of this study was to explore the dependency associated with important community resources among elderly individuals with a low level of social support from the perspective of resource demand. Methods The population-based cross-sectional study was conducted in 22 locations in China. A total of 950 participants aged ≥60 years were selected using a complex multistage sampling design. All the data were collected using questionnaires via face-to-face interviews. The dependency was assessed using the standardized Chinese version of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-II. Community resources were assessed using 43 items. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between dependency and important community resources. Results Bivariate analysis showed that the level of social support was negatively associated with levels of income (p less then 0.001) and education (p = 0.008) and was positively associated with social communication and interactions (p less then 0.001). The logistic regression analysis showed that the emergency call or survival monitoring system (ECSMS) was the most important community resource that was significantly associated with the levels of dependency; the odds ratio was 2.64 (95% CI, 1.07-3.91; p = 0.031) among elderly individuals with a low level of social support. Conclusions The levels of dependency were most significantly associated with the ECSMS among elderly individuals with a low level of social support. Our results suggest that improving the ECSMS can be the main problem in the development of community resources.Magnaporthe oryzae, one of the most notorious plant pathogens in the agronomic ecosystem, causes a destructive rice blast disease around the world. Studies have shown that host speciation exerts selection pressure that drives the evolution and divergence of the M. oryzae population. However, how genome regions prone to host-mediated selection pressures associated with speciation in M. oryzae, especially at a large-scale population level, has not been extensively characterized. Here, we detected strong evidence of sweep selection throughout the genomes of rice and non-rice pathotypes of M. oryzae population using integrated haplotype score (iHS), cross population extended haplotype homozygosity (XPEHH), and cross population composite likelihood ratio (XPCLR) tests. Functional annotation analyses of the genes associated with host-mediated selection pressure showed that 14 pathogenicity-related genes are under positive selection pressure. Additionally, we showed that 17 candidate effector proteins are under positive and divergent selection among the blast fungus population through sweep selection analysis. Specifically, we find that a divergent selective gene, MGG_13871, is experiencing host-directed mutation in two amino acid residues in rice and non-rice infecting populations. These results provide a crucial insight into the impact of selective sweeping on the differentiation of M. oryzae populations and the dynamic influences of genomic regions in promoting host adaptation and speciation among M. oryzae species.
