Interprofessional education can promote healthcare professionals' competence to work in interprofessional collaboration, which is essential for the quality and safety of care. An interprofessional approach is particularly important in complex, chronic diseases like diabetes. This qualitative study evaluated changes in medical and nursing students' perceptions of interprofessional collaboration, induced by a novel interprofessional education course on diabetes care with practical elements. Data from focus-group interviews of 30 students before and after the course were analyzed by using inductive and deductive content analysis. The students' perceptions were illustrated as Elements of Collaborative Care (e.g. Quality of professional care relationship) and Elements of Interprofessional Collaboration (e.g. Importance of communication and Valuation of collaboration). The post-course interviews added one subcategory (Need of resources) to the pre-course perceptions, and there was improvement in ten areas of self-perceived competence in performing or understanding interprofessional collaboration on diabetes care. The course improved the students' self-perceived competence and confidence in interprofessional collaboration on the care of patients with diabetes, and their understanding of interprofessional collaboration changed towards a more patient-centred and holistic perspective. The findings support further implementation of IPE with practical elements in future health professionals' education.Immunosuppression is one of the main mechanisms facilitating tumor expansion. It may be driven by immune checkpoint protein expression, anti-inflammatory cytokine secretion or enhanced metabolic enzyme production, leading to the subsequent build-up of metabolites such as adenosine. Under physiological conditions, adenosine prevents the development of tissue damage resulting from a prolonged immune response; the same mechanism might be employed by tumor tissue to promote immunosuppression. Immune cells expressing A2A and A2B adenosine receptors present in an adenosine-rich environment have suppressed effector functions, such as cytotoxicity, proinflammatory cytokine release, antigen presentation and others, making them inert to cancer cells. This study was designed to investigate the dual antagonist potential of SEL330-639 to abolish adenosine-driven immunosuppression. SEL330-639 has slow dissociation kinetics. It inhibits cAMP production in human CD4+ cells, CD8+ cells and moDCs, which leads to diminished CREB phosphorylation and restoration of antitumor cytokine production (IL-2, TNFα, IL-12) in multiple primary human immune cells. The aforementioned results were additionally validated by gene expression analysis and functional assays in which NK cell line cytotoxicity was recovered by SEL330-639. Adenosine-driven immunosuppression is believed to preclude the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop new immuno-oncological strategies. Here, we comprehensively characterize SEL330-639, a novel dual A2A/A2B receptor antagonist effective in both lymphoid and myeloid cell populations with nanomolar potency. Due to its tight binding to the A2A and A2B receptors, this binding is sustained even at high adenosine concentrations mimicking the upper limit of the range of adenosine levels observed in the tumor microenvironment.The total annual output of synthetic dyes exceeds 7 × 105 tons. However, national assessments linking LRC and threatened inland fish species distributions are lacking. Here, we show the trends in the LRC in China over the past 60 years, and quantitatively analyse their implications for threatened inland fish species. The average LRC in China decreased from 93.5% in 1960 to 25.1% in 2018, and the significant deterioration in LRC occurred over the last 20 years. Water resource regions with a high number of threatened fish species are concentrated in southern China, and the degree of threat to inland fish species increases with a decreasing average LRC. A total of 125 inland fish species are threatened by habitat degradation and loss, which is mainly caused by the construction of dams. Intrinsic factors and pollution are two other key threats to fish species in addition to the reduction of LRC. The results of this study can help us better understand the trends in LRC in China and their implications for inland fishes. Meanwhile, this study provides guidance for river management to help preserve biological diversity, including enhancing management of natural reserve areas, establishing ecological compensation mechanisms, preventing biological invasion, and monitoring and evaluation of restoration efforts.Low-carbon power generation has been proposed as the key to address climate change. However, the sustainability and ecological efficiency of the generating plants have not been fully understood. This study applies emergy analysis and systems accounting to a pilot solar power tower plant in China for the first time to elaborate its sustainable and ecological performances. Emergy analysis covers virtually all aspects of sustainability and ecological efficiency by considering different forms of materials inputs, environmental support and human labor on the same unit of "solar joule". The input-output analysis based systems accounting is applied to trace the complete emergy embodied in the supply chain for all product materials of the given plant against the back ground of complex economic network, which improved the accuracy of accounting. This analysis illustrated unexpectedly low sustainability and ecological efficiency of this particular plant compared with the emergy analysis based on the primary materials (steel, iron, cement, etc.
