However, previous studies showed that the reactivity and stability of FeIII-TAML were both strongly pH-dependent, which dramatically decrease at lower pH levels. Herein, FeIII-TAML/DODMA (dimethyldioctadecylammonium chloride) microspheres with diameters ranging from 100 to 2000 nm were synthesized via a surfactant-assisted self-assembly technique. The newly synthesized FeIII-TAML/DODMA composite exhibits superior reactivity compared to free FeIII-TAML as indicated by the degradation of bisphenols (i.e., bisphenol A and its analogues) over a wide pH range (i.e., pH 4.5-10.0). Based on the adsorption results and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models, the enhanced reactivity of FeIII-TAML/DODMA is mainly ascribed to the hydrophobic sorption of bisphenols. Moreover, the enhanced ionization of the axial water molecule associated with FeIII-TAML could further enhance the reactivity of synthesized microcomposites, which was confirmed by the results of infrared and Raman spectra. Furthermore, FeIII-TAML/DODMA shows distinct acid-resistance as explained by the protection of the hydrophobic alkyl chains of DODMA. This novel method would provide a simple and effective strategy to expand the application of FeIII-TAML in a wide pH range and render FeIII-TAML/DODMA microstructure as a potential catalyst for treatment of bisphenol compounds.Membrane fouling is an issue of concern due to the hydrophobic properties of polyethersulfone (PES) membrane when applied in water treatment. In this work, a facile hydrothermal method was utilized to synthesize hierarchical flower-like structured molybdenum disulfide nanosheets (HF-MoS2 NSs) that then incorporated into PES membranes as composite membranes. We characterized their permeability, the separation performance, the antifouling performance, and the antibacterial activity systematically. Results showed that composite membranes exhibited a better pure water flux (286 LMH/bar) at the HF-MoS2 NSs content of 0.4 wt%, which was 1.8 times higher than the control membrane. Also, composite PES membranes achieved 98.2% and 96.9% rejection of BSA and HA in comparison with the control PES membrane (87.3%, and 84.5%, respectively). Compare to the control PES membrane, the flux recovery ratio of the composite membrane increased from 69% to 88% for BSA fouling and increased from 84% to 93% for HA fouling. The retention rate for the organic dyes also improved slightly after HF-MoS2 NSs incorporation into the membrane. Additionally, the composite membranes exhibited a relatively high antibacterial activity against E. coli and B. subtilis with antibacterial rates of 67.8% and 82.5%, respectively. In conclusion, HF-MoS2 NSs incorporated composite membranes were shown to have outstanding filtration performance and could be a promising candidate for practical application in water filtration.Chlorpyrifos, a common organophosphorus pesticide, is widely used for agricultural pest control and can inhibit nitrogen-fixing bacteria biomass in paddy. In this study, the additions of chlorpyrifos (1 and 8 mg kg-1) to soil, with or without Pseudomonas stutzeri A1501, resulted in a significant decrease in nitrogen fixation, despite insignificant effects on the abundances of P. stutzeri A1501 and bacteria in soil. Toxic effect of chlorpyrifos on P. stutzeri A1501 nitrogenase activity in medium was also observed, accompanied by a significant reduction in the expression of nitrogen-fixing related genes (nifA and nifH). Furthermore, rhizosphere colonization and biofilm formation by P. stutzeri A1501 were repressed by chlorpyrifos, leading to decreased nitrogenase activity in the rhizosphere. Biofilm formation in medium was inhibited by bacterial hyperkinesis and reduction of extracellular polymeric substance, including exopolysaccharides and proteins. Together, these findings showed that chlorpyrifos-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which was directly responsible for reduced nitrogenase activity in the medium, soil, and rhizosphere by inhibiting the expressions of nitrogen-fixing related genes. Furthermore, the inhibition of biofilm formation by chlorpyrifos or ROS likely aggravated the reduction in rhizospherere nitrogenase activity.
