Developing a continuous isolation process to produce a pure, dry, free-flowing active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) is the final barrier to the implementation of continuous end-to-end pharmaceutical manufacturing. Recent work has led to the development of continuous filtration and washing prototypes for pharmaceutical process development and small-scale manufacture. Here, we address the challenge of static drying of a solvent-wet crystalline API in a fixed bed to facilitate the design of a continuous filter dryer for pharmaceutical development, without excessive particle breakage or the formation of interparticle bridges leading to lump formation. We demonstrate the feasibility of drying small batches on a time scale suitable for continuous manufacturing, complemented by the development of a drying model that provides a design tool for process development. We also evaluate the impact of alternative washing and drying approaches on particle agglomeration. We conclude that our approach yields effective technology, with a performance that is amenable to predictive modeling.The dynamics of coronavirus cases is proposed to be modeled using switching regression whose switching points are unknown. The dynamics of the number of coronavirus cases in Ukraine is analyzed.This paper reports the effect of post-heat treatment (PHT) on laser-deposited WxC + Ni-based composite thin walls. The PHT at 700, 800, and 900 °C was conducted to modify the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composite. The results showed that the as-deposited composite had a weak flexural strength and plasticity due to the brittle nature of the eutectic phase. The eutectic phase consisted of M7C3, M2C, and a small amount of the γ phase. However, after PHT at a certain temperature (e.g., 700 or 800 °C), the eutectic phase gradually disappeared, and carbides, such as M7C3 and M2C, tended to be distributed uniformly in the γ matrix, which improved the flexural strength of the composite. Nevertheless, after the PHT at 900 °C, the flexural strength of the composite displayed a downward trend, which was mainly because of the severe softening of the γ phase. In addition, the plasticity of this composite continuously improved as the eutectic phase disappeared and the γ phase softened. Based on the above results, we proposed a PHT at 800 °C for 1 h as an optimal process for this WxC + Ni-based composite.In this brief report, the author shares lessons from Loretta Jones, MA and William Jenkins, PhD, two elders who shaped her research with communities that occupy intersecting marginalized categories. These lessons were echoed and amplified by the community panelists at the RCMAR workshop on recruitment and retention of diverse elders. They include centering the priorities of communities themselves, helping community members envision the types of positive transformations that research can help bring about, engaging and valuing the contributions of diverse sectors of the community, and recognizing the desire of aging individuals and communities to leave a legacy. Because heath care, research, and governmental institutions have engendered so much mistrust in racial/ethnic minority communities, researchers must learn first the particular histories and experience of the populations they intend to study. Equipped with this knowledge, cultural humility, and a willingness to listen, researchers can then use these strategies to earn the trust necessary for successful recruitment and retention in research.Several Texas communities along the Mexican border, including the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV), are home to low-income Hispanic populations, many of whom live in underserved communities known as colonias. These areas have high incidences of neurocognitive disorders, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease (AD); health care strategies that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for the area are needed. We aim to build capacity to reduce risk, facilitate treatment, and provide caregiver support for affected individuals. However, gaining trust of communities and presenting information about research studies in a way that is culturally appropriate is critical for engagement of underserved communities. This brief report examines our work with local community health workers.(CHWs), promotores in Spanish, to establish contact with, engage, mobilize, and educate the Hispanic communities of the LGRV. Lessons from the succesful experience of training promotores in autism spectrum disorder in the LRGV highlight the importance of specifically addressing outreach in health fairs, clinic vists and referral as well as adequate selection, training, management, and support of the promotores as critical aspects. To initiate and sustain recruitment of older adults and care partners in research studies of AD and other dementias in the RGV, we have incorporated these aspects as components of the promotores training and engagement model, which has been developed and implemented by researchers and their colleagues at the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Recruitment and retention of US ethnic groups traditionally underrepresented in research continues to pose challenges. The Michigan Center for Contextual Factors in Alzheimer's Disease (MCCFAD) engages with two underserved immigrant communities in Michigan - Middle Eastern/Arab Americans in metro-Detroit and Latinos in the Grand Rapids area - to recruit and retain two Participant Resource Pools (PRP).

We adapt an existing community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach to recruit Middle Eastern/Arab American and Latino adults of all ages for Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) research. see more Using American Community Survey (2014-2018) data, we compare socio-demographic characteristics of Middle Eastern/Arab Americans and Latinos living in Michigan to our PRPs. Assessment tools and community advisory board feedback identified missteps and culturally sensitive solutions.

In the first year of MCCFAD activities, 100 Middle Eastern/Arab Americans and 117 Latinos joined the MCCFAD PRPs. Comparisons to state-level data showed that PRP participants were on average older and more likely to be female than the Middle Eastern/Arab American and Latino populations in Michigan.
