Globally, knowledge of health workers has been documented to be key in effective immunisation service delivery. The parenteral route of drug administration is a vital healthcare procedure used in the administration of medicines using needle and syringe. Despite the importance of this procedure, improper handling of the device has resulted in an unsafe practice among health workers who attend to patients receiving injectable medications. Healthcare personnel vaccinations are important to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases in hospitals. We evaluated the seroprevalence, vaccination rates, and barriers to vaccination among newly employed nurses and doctors.
A cross-sectional study was conducted at a university hospital in the Republic of Korea from 2017 to 2020. The immune status for hepatitis B virus (HBV), varicella zoster virus (VZV), and hepatitis A virus (HAV) was tested. HBV, VZV, measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccinations were mandatory. HAV and tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccinations were also recommended by specialists. A web-based survey on factors affecting vaccination completion was conducted.
For the 668 participants, the mean age was 26±2 (±SD) years. Seroprevalence was 86% for HBV, 93% for VZV, and 59% for HAV. Vaccine completion rates were 40% for HBV, 70% for VZV, 65% for MMR, 42% for HAV, and 70% for Tdap. Overall compliance for mandatory vaccines was 54%. A total of 402 subjects who had worked for over one year were surveyed, with a 22% response rate. More than 50% of respondents gave the following reasons for not receiving recommend vaccines 1) they were busy (77%), 2) vaccination process was complicated (68%), and 3) they simply forgot about vaccination (55%). Healthcare personnel agreed to be frequently informed of immunization requirements and for monitoring of vaccination rates.

There has been a recent recognized shift towards a whole-of-life or life-course approach to immunisation. However, coverage amongst at-risk adults for recommended vaccines continues to be suboptimal. This study examined the perceptions of middle and older aged Australian adults towards hospital-based immunization programs and their previous exposures to receiving vaccines via tertiary care.
A cross-sectional survey was conducted with Australian adults 45years and older in late 2019 to capture influenza and pneumococcal vaccine uptake, exposure to hospital-based immunization programs, missed opportunities to vaccinate and receptiveness towards the promotion and/or delivery of vaccines in the hospital setting.
Only 13 respondents reported receiving a vaccine at hospital, yet 72.2% (931/1292) indicated that they were willing to be vaccinated in that setting. Amongst those who attended hospital during 2019 and were eligible for vaccination, 57.2% and 28.3% of respondents were not immunized for pneumococcal ralian study support international work that shows very low rates of opportunistic vaccination in hospitals despite national recommendations to vaccinate prior to discharge. Nasopharyngeal colonisation with nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is associated with development of infections including pneumonia and otitis media. The 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV10) uses NTHi Protein D (PD) as a carrier. Papua New Guinean children have exceptionally early and dense NTHi carriage, and high rates of NTHi-associated disease. Vaccination with PCV10 could potentially reduce NTHi carriage and disease in this population by inducing a NTHi PD immune response.
Serum and nasopharyngeal swabs were collected from 101 Papua New Guinean children at 1, 4, 9, 10, 23 and 24months of age. Children received PCV10 (n=55) or PCV13 (not containing NTHi PD) (n=46) at 1, 2 and 3months of age. NTHi carriage density was measured in swabs by qPCR. Serum PD-IgG levels were measured by bead-based immunoassay.
Papua New Guinean children did naturally develop PD-IgG antibodies whose levels were increased at 4months of age with PCV10 vaccination at 1-2-3months. Despite this, most children were colonised with NTHi by 4months of age (~95%) regardless of being vaccinated with PCV10 or PCV13, and PCV10 had no impact on NTHi carriage density.
Early vaccination of infants with PCV10 elicited a robust PD antibody response but this had no impact on NTHi carriage.

The goal of the present study was to analyze the implementation and clinical efficacy of OdySight, a mobile medical application for the remote monitoring of patients with maculopathy.
In all, 60 patients with edematous maculopathies receiving traditional clinical treatment (PRN or Treat & Extend) were provided with OdySight to detect changes in visual acuity from home. To determine both the feasibility and reliability of the application, its use by patients (both testing and game play), as well as the processing of alerts by the clinical team, were analyzed during the first year.
The female-to-male ratio was 32, with a mean age of 64 years. 52% of patients presented with age-related macular degeneration, 31% with high myopia, 11% with retinal vein occlusion, and 6% with diabetic maculopathy. The conversion rate (defined as the percentage of patients completing at least one test following prescription) and the nine-month retention rate (percentage of active patients) were 61% and 24% respectively. Patients aged 50 to 70 years and those whose use of the app included game play represent 75% of active patients at 9 months.
