Characteristic heterotopic ossification of the proximal humerus in patients status post total shoulder arthroplasty is a common imaging finding that is not associated with adverse clinical outcomes.This study aimed to evaluate the association of interleukin-6 (IL-6) level with the poor outcomes in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients by utilizing a meta-analysis based on adjusted effect estimates. We searched the keywords from PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE on August 14, 2020. The pooled effects and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were estimated by Stata 11.2. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were performed to explore the source of heterogeneity. Sensitivity analysis was implemented to assess the stability of the results. Begg's test and Egger's test were conducted to assess the publication bias. Sixteen articles with 8752 COVID-19 patients were finally included in the meta-analysis. The results based on random-effects model indicated that elevated value of IL-6 was significantly associated with adverse outcomes in patients with COVID-19 (pooled effect = 1.21, 95% CI 1.13-1.31, I2 = 90.7%). Subgroup analysis stratified by disease outcomes showed consistent results (severe pooled effect = 1.18, 95% CI 1.05-1.31; ICU (intensive care unit) admission pooled effect = 1.90, 95% CI 1.04-3.47; death pooled effect = 3.57, 95% CI 2.10-6.07). Meta-regression indicated that study design was a source of heterogeneity. Publication bias was existent in our analysis (Begg's test P = 0.007; Egger's test P less then 0.001). A detailed analysis reveals that BTA1 has multiple functions because tiller angle, shoot gravitropism and tolerance to drought stress are changed in bta1-1 plants. Moreover, BTA1 is a positive regulator of shoot gravitropism in rice. Shoot responses to gravistimulation are disrupted in bta1-1 under both light and dark conditions. Gene cloning reveals that bta1-1 is a novel mutant allele of LA1 renamed la1-SN. LA1 is able to rescue the tiller angle and shoot gravitropism defects observed in la1-SN. The nuclear localization signal of LA1 is disrupted by la1-SN, causing changes in its subcellular localization. LA1 is required to regulate the expression of auxin transporters and signaling factors that control shoot gravitropism and tiller angle. High-throughput mRNA sequencing is performed to elucidate the molecular and cellular functions of LA1. The results show that LA1 may be involved in the nucleosome and chromatin assembly, and protein-DNA interactions to control gene expression, shoot gravitropism and tiller angle. Our results provide new insight into the mechanisms whereby LA1 controls shoot gravitropism and tiller angle in rice.
Do decidua-derived factors stimulate the conversion of circulating neutrophils to polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cells (PMN-MDSCs) in early human pregnancy?

Circulating neutrophils can acquire PMN-MDSC-like phenotypes and function via phosphorylated signal transducer and activator of transcription 5/programmed death ligand 2 (pSTAT5/PD-L2) signalling after stimulation with decidua-derived granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF).

PMN-MDSCs are an important immunoregulatory cell type in early pregnancy. Neutrophils are of high heterogeneity and plasticity and can polarize to immunosuppressive PMN-MDSCs upon stimulation.

For analysis of myeloid-derived suppressor cell (MDSC) subset proportions, 12 endometrium tissues and 12 peripheral blood samples were collected from non-pregnant women, and 40 decidua tissues and 16 peripheral blood samples were obtained from women with normal early pregnancy undergoing elective surgical pregnancy termination for nonmedical reasons with gly pregnancy through regulating PMN-MDSCs and further provides a potential role of GM-CSF in prevention and treatment for pregnancy complications.
