Contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) through MicroBubbles Time (MBT) (time from infusion of saline with addition of micro-bubbles of air to visualization of first bubbles in right atrium (RA), visualized by subxiphoid or apical echocardiography) is an alternative to Intracavitary ECG and chest X-ray in evaluation of tip location in central venous catheters.

To evaluate feasibility and variability of CEUS in peripheral catheters (Midline-MC) in a cohort of patients and in a subgroup where tip location was also performed through chest X-ray. Secondary outcomes were verifying the correlation between MBT and distance between tip of MC and RA (anthropometric and radiological measures), body mass index (BMI), vein diameter at point of insertion.

Patients with insertion of MC were enrolled in this prospective cohort. After catheter insertion, CEUS was performed recording MBT.

One hundred thirty-two MCs were inserted, 45 performed Chest X-ray. MBT wasn't feasible in 7 (5%) because of low quality echocardiographic images. find more Subcostal view was available in 114 patients (91.2%), while 11 patients (8.8%) were examined through apical four-chamber view. Mean MBT in the whole population was 2.3 ± 0.8 s. Significant correlation between anthropometric and radiological measures, BMI and MBT was found. 32.8% of MC had a MBT ⩽2 s.

But is this an effect of their perceptual salience (the Salience Hypothesis), or is it because accents mark the position of focus (the Focus Attraction Hypothesis)? A pair of auditory comprehension experiments shows that focus position, as indicated by preceding wh-questions instead of by pitch accents, affects attachment by drawing the ambiguous phrase to the focus. This supports the Focus Attraction Hypothesis (or a pragmatic version of salience) for both these results and previous results of accents on attachment. These experiments show that information structure, as indicated with prosody or other means, influences sentence interpretation, and suggests a view on which modifiers are drawn to the most important information in a sentence.We describe a subaortic left brachiocephalic vein, a congenital anomaly that can be suspected during the rapid central vein assessment before central venous catheterization. Since the vein descends vertically/obliquely rapidly from its origin, we suggest that the puncture should be made at a greater angle (50°-60°) than what is usually used to puncture this vein (20°-30°). Failure to identify this anomaly may cause a failed puncture or complications from the puncture of adjacent blood vessels.
Neuropathic pain is a condition caused by a lesion or disease of the somatosensory nervous system. It may present as debilitating pain with a sensation of burning and electric-like symptoms and is often difficult to manage effectively. Although pharmacological medications are the first line of treatment, multidisciplinary teams are sometimes required to provide appropriate treatment to improve quality of life and overall wellbeing.

The aim of this study is to present a case of post herpetic neuralgia relieved successfully by the compound palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) - a natural alternative to pharmacological pain relief.

We present the case of a 67 year-old male with ongoing post-herpetic neuralgia, over a 3-year period, as a result of complications from shingles (herpes zoster). Previous studies on the relationship between PEA and neuropathy were reviewed, with an attempt to discuss the possible underlying mechanism of PEA on neuropathic pain.

PEA demonstrated effective pain relief within 48 hours at an administered daily dose of 900 mg (10 mg/kg).

However, it may be inadequate in identifying suitable vasculature, mainly in comorbid patients, or in detecting complications. This review highlights the advantages of ultrasound imaging to manage VA before placement, during maturation and follow-up. Furthermore, it analyses the future perspectives in evaluating early and late VA complications thank to the availability of multiparametric platforms, point of care of ultrasound, and portable/wireless systems. Technical improvements and low-cost systems should favor the widespread ultrasound-based VA surveillance programs. This significant turning point needs an adequate training of nephrologists and dialysis nurses and the standardization of exams, parameters, and procedures.
To analyze the effect of multidisciplinary cooperation mode (MCM) led by infusion nurse specialists (INSs) on peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) catheterization and indwelling nursing quality.

Participants' demographic information, catheter types, catheterization approaches, puncture site, tip position, professional title of nurses, success rate of catheterization, consultation rate, detection rate of complications and outcome improvement rate of 6576 outpatients and hospitalized patients with PICC were analyzed retrospectively by a software named "questionnaire stars," in a large tertiary general hospital in Shanghai, from January 2015 to December 2019.
