To evaluate whether this phenomenon is also observable in humans, we injected two fluorescent dyes-fluorescein sodium and indocyanine green (ICG)-into the dermal layer both at acupuncture points (PC5, PC6, and PC7) and a nonacupoint control. Fifteen healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study. Of the 19 trials of fluorescein injected at PC6, 15 (79%) were associated with slow diffusion of the dye proximally along a path matching closely with the pericardium meridian. Furthermore, the dye emerged and coalesced proximally at exactly acupoint PC3. Injections of ICG at the acupoints PC5, PC6, or PC7 showed a similar trajectory close to the injection site but diverged when migrating proximally, failing converge on acupoint PC3. Both ultrasound imaging and vein-locating device did not reveal any corresponding vessels (arterial or venous) at the visualized tracer pathway but did demonstrate correlations with intermuscular fascia.The implementation of a laboratory information system (LIS) at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Thailand provides valuable medical resources, particularly for dengue. Hematocrit (Hct), which is often derived from hemoglobin (Hgb), is important in the diagnosis and management of dengue. This study aimed to evaluate the Hct value obtained from the LIS automated analyzer. We prospectively enrolled 163 hospitalized adults with dengue, for whom 1,141 real-time complete blood count (CBC) results were obtained via a hematology analyzer and updated in the LIS database. The median (interquartile range (IQR)) duration of analytic turnaround times (TATs) was 40.0 (30.0-53.0) minutes. Linear regression analysis indicated a significant relationship between Hgb and Hct with a coefficient of determination (Pearson's R 2) of 0.92 at red blood cell distribution width (RDW) ≤18, but Pearson's R 2 decreased to 0.78 at RDW >18. The Hct calculated from the three-fold conversion method and from the analyzer had a Pearson's R 2 of 0.92. At Hgb less then 12 g/dl and ≥16 g/dl, a greater difference between the two Hct values was observed, with median (IQR) differences of -0.8% (-1.9%-0.2%) and 0.8% (-0.1%-1.7%), respectively (P value less then 0.05). In conclusion, the Hgb and Hct of patients with dengue were highly correlated at RDW ≤18. The Hct calculated from the three-fold conversion method and from the analyzer had an excellent relationship, except when the Hgb was less then 12 g/dl or ≥16 g/dl. Apart from routine CBC evaluation, the LIS could help for accurate data collection in clinical research and development.

Kartogenin (KGN) is a newly discovered small molecule compound which can induce cartilage formation through chondrogenesis of endogenous mesenchymal stem cells.
In this study, we used KGN with fibrin glue (FG) to repair the rotator cuff injury by promoting the formation of fibrocartilage at the tendon to bone interface. Firstly, we assessed the release rate of KGN from the FG-KGN complex and then created a rabbit rotator cuff tendon graft-bone tunnel model. The rabbits received saline, FG-KGN, or FG injections onto the tendon to bone interface after injury. Shoulder tissues were harvested at 6 and 12 weeks, and the sections were stained with HE and Safranin O/Fast green. The samples were assessed by histologic evaluation and biomechanical testing. Synovial mesenchymal stem cells derived from the synovial tissue around the rotator cuff were harvested for western blotting and qRT-PCR analysis.
