It's important to keep in mind that a combo appliance typically has less capacity than a conventional standalone oven.
After you've selected the right microwave and oven combination to satisfy your needs, think about the installation process. Over-the-range models are positioned over your cooktop or stove and connect to a power outlet. Built-in microwaves are inserted into cabinets or walls in your kitchen. Some models come with trim kits that let you effortlessly blend your new microwave with your kitchen cabinets.
Energy Efficiency
A built in microwave oven combo can provide an excellent space-saving option for those who have smaller kitchens, regardless of whether they live in a home or apartment. They can help to save cabinet space that would normally be occupied by two separate appliances and they can also help reduce energy consumption. They are more energy efficient than traditional wall ovens and offer a more efficient way to cook. Additionally, they can usually be used to cook both warm and hot dishes, which reduces the requirement for additional appliances such as toasters or warming plates.
When evaluating possible amendments to energy conservation standards, DOE conducts several analyses which include market and technology assessment, screening analysis, engineering analysis, and a national impact analysis (NIA). In this SNOPR, DOE will utilize its engineering analysis of microwave ovens to determine what degree of efficiency improvements are feasible for this particular product.
DOE will assess the design of a microwave with an energy performance objective that is specified in the engineering analysis. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.
As part of NIA, DOE will assess the impact on consumers, including cost savings throughout the lifecycle and simple payback period (PBP). DOE will employ the Government Regulatory Impact Model, with an adaptation for microwavable ovens to calculate the industry net present value (NPV).
The impact on manufacturers will be evaluated as well and DOE will use a modified version of its Industry Cash Flow model, which has been adapted for this type of product to calculate manufacturing NPV. DOE will also examine the impact of these proposals on small businesses as well as other manufacturing subgroups to identify those who could be most affected.
DOE will also consider whether the test procedure for microwave ovens requires to be revised to include active mode power consumption and a possible integrated energy use metric. Currently, tests only provide standby mode power usage.
Design
Wall ovens depend on evenly circulating hot air while microwaves use waves to cause the water molecules in food items to vibrate and generate heat. Combination wall units combine these two appliances into one unit, which is ideal for securing space in the kitchen while giving a modern, sleek look. But you need to carefully consider your goals and budget before purchasing a combination wall oven. Some of the combination ovens we rated have performance or design issues.
