Introduction Surfactant proteins (SP) have been shown to be inherent proteins of the human CNS and are altered during acute and chronic disturbances of CSF circulation. Aim of the study was to examine the changes of surfactant protein concentrations in CSF of preterm babies suffering from intraventricular hemorrhage. Patients and Methods Consecutive CSF samples of 21 preterm infants with intraventricular hemorrhages (IVH) and posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHHC) were collected at primary intervention, after 5-10 days and at time of shunt insertion ~50 days after hemorrhage. Samples were analyzed for surfactant proteins A, B, C, and G by ELISA assays and the results were compared to 35 hydrocephalus patients (HC) without hemorrhage and 6 newborn control patients. Results and Discussion Premature patients with IVH showed a significant elevation of surfactant proteins SP-A, C, and G compared to HC and control groups mean values for the respective groups were SP-A 4.19 vs. 1.08 vs. 0.38 ng/ml. Mean SP-C 3.63 vs. 1.47 vs. 0.48 ng/ml. Mean SP-G 3.86 vs. 0.17 vs. 0.2 ng/ml. Sunitinib SP-A and G concentrations were slowly falling over time without reaching normal values. SP-C levels declined faster following neurosurgical interventions and reached levels comparable to those of hydrocephalus patients without hemorrhage. Conclusion Intraventricular hemorrhages of premature infants cause posthemorrhagic CSF flow disturbance and are associated with highly significant elevations of surfactant proteins A, C, and G independent of total CSF protein concentrations.Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile infection is implicated as a major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea in hospitals worldwide. Probiotics, especially lactic acid bacteria, are the most frequently used alternative treatment. This study aims to identify potential probiotic enterococci strains that act against C. difficile strains and exert a protective effect on colon adenocarcinoma cells (HT-29 cells). To this end, nine Enterococcus strains isolated from the feces of breast-fed infants were investigated. They were identified as E. faecalis by 16s rRNA sequencing and MALDI-TOF. The probiotic properties including their viabilities in simulated gastrointestinal condition, cell adhesion ability, and their safety were evaluated. All strains exhibited more tolerance toward both pepsin and bile salts and adhered more tightly to HT-29 cells compared with the reference probiotic strain Lactobacillus plantarum ATCC 14917. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) results exhibited that six of nine strains carried at le difficile activity. These could be promising probiotics with potential applications in the prevention of C. difficile colonization and treatment of C. difficile infection. Objective Repeat sclerotherapy of lymphatic malformations (LMs) is challenging. Accordingly, the aim of the present article is to describe a simulated angiography technique-a new method of bleomycin infusion for the treatment of LMs to achieve better outcome(s) in fewer sessions. Materials and Methods A retrospective analysis of information housed in a prospectively collected LM database was performed. Patients with LM, revealed on imaging examination and treated using a simulated angiography technique with a bleomycin mixture, were included in the study. Visual evaluation and imaging examinations were performed to evaluate clinical improvement. Results A total of 151 patients (82 male, 69 female; mean age, 28.29 months [range 1 month-12 years]) with LMs were included in this study. Excellent visual and radiological resolution was observed in 77% (117/151) of lesions, 17% (26/151) had significant improvement, and 8 patients exhibited a slight response. The number of procedures per patient varied from 1 to 5, and the average number of treatment sessions for LM was 1.34. Side effects included skin erythema at the injection site, local swelling, mild tenderness, and fever, which were controlled by oral antipyretics. No serious side effects were observed. Conclusions Simulated angiography using a bleomycin mixture for sclerotherapy of LMs in children was feasible and demonstrated good effect with little trauma and less time per treatment.Asthma is a prevalent pediatric disease causing important health, economic, and emotional burdens around the world. Asthma attacks can be controlled with standardized management, but no cure exists for the disease. Many attacks are triggered by respiratory tract infections and children with basic airway diseases are at high risk for developing severe or critical illnesses. The new COVID-19 pandemic threatens to disrupt children's asthma control management and we have set out to summarize the main factors that need to be considered by pediatricians treating children with asthma at times like these. We discuss the intrinsic nature of asthma and its treatment, and the effects of irregular treatment giving recommendations such as the use of the WeChat platform and WeChat Official Accounts for follow-ups to improve children's asthma compliance during the pandemic. We also cover the COVID-19 protection strategies, and the importance of stress reduction, a balanced diet, exercise, and the avoidance of known attack triggers for maintaining good control of asthma during the pandemic.Stable microbe and host interactions are established during the development of the infant gut microbial community that provide essential functions for the efficient digestion of food, immune development, and resistance to colonization with pathogens. To further delineate the stability of the gut microbial community during this time, we have used microbial strain tracking analysis with published longitudinal metagenomic data sets to identify strains that persist in the developing infant gut ecosystem. In the first study, 17 infants were evaluated that had not received antibiotics for 3 years after birth. An infant specific pattern was seen for stable and unstable microbial strains during this time, with only one infant having no stable strains identified out of available strains during the first 3 years. Strain tracking was also applied to follow microbes in a separate set of 14 infants that had multiple doses of antibiotics over the 3 years. In 10 out of 14 infants given multiple antibiotics during the first 3 years, we identified a unique pattern of transient strains that appeared after multiple antibiotic treatments for a short time compared to that in infants not on antibiotics.
