The water industry plays an important role in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and therefore, moving to a low-carbon urban water cycle is of great importance. However, traditional performance assessment of water companies ignores GHG emissions. To overcome this limitation and to compare productivity change estimations of water companies excluding and including GHG emissions, this study computes the Luenberger productivity indicator (LPI) and the Malmquist-Luenberger productivity index (MLPI), respectively. Moreover, in a second stage, we investigate the impact of exogenous variables on environmentally sensitive productivity change estimations. The empirical application conducted for a sample of water and sewerage companies in England and Wales over the period 201-2019 has illustrated that when GHG emissions were considered in the assessment (i.e., MLPI estimations), average productivity decreased. By contrast, when productivity estimation ignored GHG emissions (i.e., LPI), average productivity increased. selleck chemicals Hence, it is concluded that the inclusion of GHG emissions in productivity analysis impacted the results. This finding is very relevant from a policy perspective as it illustrates the importance of considering GHG emissions when evaluating the performance of water companies for regulatory purposes.
Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) and Entecavir (ETV) are commonly used for patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), and renal or bone toxicity are possible concerns. This study is to evaluate the renal and bone effect of TDF compared with ETV in CHB patients.
This is a retrospective study at Kaohsiung Chung-Gung memorial hospital, Taiwan, from June 2013 to December 2018. Patients with CHB were prescribed with TDF or ETV for 3years or above. Renal function was assessed at 12-week intervals. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scans of the spine and femurs were performed at 48-week intervals. The propensity score analysis was conducted to balance the baseline characteristics of patients in both treatment groups.
A total of 258 patients were included in this study TDF (n = 135) and ETV (n = 123). The prevalence of osteopenia was much higher in the TDF group at week 48 and week 96. The TDF group showed significant mean percentage decrease from baseline in bone mineral density throughout the treatment course. Logistic regression analysis adjusted for the propensity score demonstrated that the use of TDF was the only predictive factor of significant bone density loss at week 144. The mean percentage decline of estimated glomerular filtration rate was significant in the TDF group at all time points. Renal threshold phosphate concentration was similar among both treatment groups.
This study suggested CHB patients treated with TDF may experience increased risks of bone loss and renal deficits compared to those treated with ETV.

Calcifying odontogenic cysts (COC) and adenomatoid odontogenic tumors (AOT) have similar radiographic findings. We examined the radiographic and computed tomography (CT) images of patients histologically diagnosed with COC or AOT and identified their characteristic findings.
The subjects included 12 patients histologically diagnosed with COC or AOT (one female and five males per group), who underwent CT at our hospital between Nov 1998 and Jun 2019. The location of the lesion, impacted tooth, bone expansion, root resorption, tooth migration, calcified body, and presence or absence of a high-intensity zone in the marginal area of the lesion were examined.
In patients with COC, five patients with COC exhibited bone expansion toward the buccal side. The lesion encompassing the crown was attached to the cement-enamel junction and contained a radiopaque lesion with a calcified body. In 6 patients with COC, irregularly shaped calcified bodies were observed with small tooth-like structures. In patients with AOT, all six patients with AOT exhibited bone expansion toward the buccal and lingual sides. The lesion encompasses a part of the tooth root or the entire tooth. Punctate calcification was observed within the lesion and the marginal area in three patients, and a high-intensity zone was observed in the marginal area of the lesion in two patients.
We report imaging findings that may be characteristic of COC and AOT, suggesting that CT findings may be useful for differentiating between COC and AOT.

In the last two decades, the non-coding RNAs have been considered as promising molecular tools to treat diseases, because they are able to modulate gene expression and the metabolic routes; however, deep investigation of their mechanistic behavior in pathologies must be performed. Thus, our aim was to evaluate the modulatory effect of the miR-1914-5p in controlling lipid metabolism in HepG2, a widely used human hepatocarcinoma cell line. The molecular and cellular analyses demonstrated that the functional inhibition of the investigated microRNA completely changed the cellular metabolism and behavior, compared to control groups. The in vitro inhibition of the miR-1914-5p increased the energy expenditure pointed in different analyses, decreasing cell doubling time and migration rate verified in wound healing and in the classical transwell chambers invasion assays, which makes the miR-1914-5p a candidate for further translational and preclinical studies to validate its function in controlling metastasis in liver cancer or even treat those diseases.
Lower gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are a major cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Prognosis improves with earlier diagnosis, and non-invasive biomarkers have the potential to aid with early detection. Substantial investment has been made into the development of biomarkers; however, studies are often carried out in specialist settings and few have been evaluated for low-prevalence populations.
We aimed to identify novel biomarkers for the detection of lower GI cancers that have the potential to be evaluated for use in primary care. MEDLINE, Embase, Emcare and Web of Science were systematically searched for studies published in English from January 2000 to October 2019. Reference lists of included studies were also assessed. Studies had to report on measures of diagnostic performance for biomarkers (single or in panels) used to detect colorectal or anal cancers. We included all designs and excluded studies with fewer than 50 cases/controls. Data were extracted from published studies on types of biomarkers, populations and outcomes.
