edical history. The mediating role of CSVD suggests that hypertension may lead to cognitive impairment through the occurrence of CSVD.
The extent of hypertensive exposure is associated with CSVD and cognitive impairment beyond clinical blood pressure or medical history. The mediating role of CSVD suggests that hypertension may lead to cognitive impairment through the occurrence of CSVD.
This study sought to identify morphological predictors of rapid plaque progression.
Two patterns of plaque progression have been described slow linear progression and rapid step-wise progression. The former pattern will cause stable angina when the narrowing reaches a critical threshold, whereas the latter pattern may lead to acute coronary syndromes or sudden cardiac death.
Patients who underwent optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging during the index procedure and follow-up angiography with a minimum interval of 6months were selected. Nonculprit lesions with a diameter stenosis of≥30% on index angiography were assessed. IC-87114 clinical trial Lesion progression was defined as a decrease of angiographic minimum lumen diameter≥0.4mm at follow-up (mean, 7.1months). Baseline morphological characteristics of plaques with rapid progression were evaluated by OCT. In a subgroup with follow-up OCT imaging for plaques with rapid progression, morphological changes from baseline to follow-up were assessed.
Among 517 lesions in 24sion. A new layer, a signature of previous plaque disruption and healing, was detected in more than half of the lesions with rapid progression at follow-up. (Massachusetts General Hospital Optical Coherence Tomography Registry; NCT01110538).
Lipid-rich plaques, TCFA, and layered plaques were predictors of subsequent rapid plaque progression. A new layer, a signature of previous plaque disruption and healing, was detected in more than half of the lesions with rapid progression at follow-up. (Massachusetts General Hospital Optical Coherence Tomography Registry; NCT01110538).
The authors sought to compare the diagnostic accuracy of quantitative perfusion maps to visual assessment (VA) of first-pass perfusion images for the detection of multivessel coronary artery disease (MVCAD).
VA of first-pass stress perfusion cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) may underestimate ischemia in MVCAD. Pixelwise perfusion mapping allows quantitative measurement of regional myocardial blood flow, which may improve ischemia detection in MVCAD.
One hundred fifty-one subjects recruited at 2 centers underwent stress perfusion CMR with myocardial perfusion mapping, and invasive coronary angiography with coronary physiology assessment. Ischemic burden was assessed by VA of first-pass images and by quantitative measurement of stress myocardial blood flow using perfusion maps.
In patients with MVCAD (2-vessel [2VD] or 3-vessel disease [3VD]; n=95), perfusion mapping identified significantly more segments with perfusion defects (median segments per patient 12 [interquartile range (IQR) 9 to 16] by mappiMR in correctly identifying extent of coronary disease. This has important implications for assessment of ischemia and therapeutic decision-making.
As frontline providers of care, nurses and midwives play a critical role in controlling infections such as COVID-19, influenza, multi-drug resistant organisms and health care associated infections. Improved cleaning can reduce the incidence of infection and is cost effective but relies on healthcare personnel to correctly apply cleaning measures. As nurses and midwives have the most contact with patients and as an important first step in improving compliance, this study sought to explore nurses' and midwives' knowledge on the role of the environment in infection prevention and control and identify challenges in maintaining clean patient environments.
Cross-sectional online survey of 96 nurses (RN/EN) and midwives (RW) employed in clinical settings (e.g. hospital, aged care, medical centre, clinic) in Australia.
Nurses and midwives broadly stated that they understood the importance of cleaning. However, cleaning responsibilities varied and there was confusion regarding the application of different disinfectants when cleaning after patients with a suspected or diagnosed infection post-discharge. Most would not be confident being placed in a room where a previous patient had a diagnosed infection such as multi-drug resistant organism.
Greater organisational support and improving applied knowledge about infection control procedures is needed. This includes correct use of disinfectants, which disinfectant to use for various situations, and cleaning effectively following discharge of a patient with known infection. The cleanliness of shared medical equipment may also pose current risk due to lack of cleaning.

School settings may be optimal for physical activity interventions for youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Additionally, consumer-based fitness trackers may encourage youth with ASD to increase their physical activity levels, however, no studies have examined whether a fitness tracker program would be feasible in youth with ASD.
To examine the feasibility of a 12-week school-based Fitbit© program for youth with ASD.
Six classroom teachers and their students (n=45) were provided with Fitbit fitness trackers to wear over 12-weeks. Classroom teachers monitored student tracker use and completed open-ended surveys to describe both their experience and their students' experience with the fitness trackers.
Out of the 45 eligible students, 42 (94%) opted to participate in the study. All six teachers and 32 (76%) of the 42 students wore the fitness tracker daily over 12 weeks. Teachers reported that students were most interested in tracking their daily steps, and the short batter life, and account set-up were the biggest challenges to students.
