of Paralympic swimmers.Purpose To provide a review of current articles that have used observation interventions to enhance motor skill acquisition or performance of applied tasks, and to situate the research within the Applied Model for the Use of Observation (AMUO) with the goal of forming a basis for evidence-based guidelines for practitioners. Method Key words (e.g., observation/modeling) were searched in varied data bases (e.g., Google Scholar/PubMed), along with a citation search of the relevant AMUO article, to generate a pool of articles for possible review. Selection criteria included publication between 2011 and 2018, and that the research focus was on the effects of an observation intervention on the acquisition or performance of an applied motor task. Results Forty-eight articles were reviewed, with 21 of these targeting the basic question of whether observation is effective, and the remaining pertaining to the What, When, Who, and How features of the AMUO. The effectiveness of observation interventions was not only affirmed, but also extended to a wider scope of populations and settings. Greater insight into the necessary information with respect to the demonstration (what) and whether it should be before, after, or during physical practice (when) was obtained. As well, advantages of combining model types (who) and providing control to the learner (how) were reported. Conclusions While more clarity was brought to certain features of the AMUO that could be used to provide evidence-based guidelines, more research is needed to fully inform practitioners for the effective use of observation interventions.Endomyocardial fibrosis (EMF) affects approximately 12 million persons worldwide and is an important cause of restrictive cardiomyopathy in the developing world, with the highest prevalence reported in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and South America. EMF is characterized by apical filling with fibrotic tissue of one or both ventricles, often associated with thrombus, calcification, and atrioventricular valve regurgitation, leading to typical symptoms of restrictive heart failure. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is the first-line modality for assessment of EMF, basically owing to its widespread availability. However, in recent years cardiac MRI has emerged as a powerful tool for assessment of cardiac morphology and function, with higher accuracy than TTE, along with the unique advantage of being able to provide comprehensive noninvasive tissue characterization. Delayed enhancement (DE) imaging is the cornerstone of cardiac MRI tissue characterization and allows accurate identification of myocardial fibrosis, conveying valuable additional diagnostic and prognostic information. find more The typical DE pattern in EMF, described as the "double V" sign, consists of a three-layered pattern of normal myocardium, thickened enhanced endomyocardium, and overlying thrombus at the apex of the affected ventricle; it has excellent correlation with histopathologic findings and plays an important role in differentiating EMF from other cardiomyopathies. Conversely, fibrous tissue deposition quantified using DE imaging, when indexed to body surface area, has been shown to be a strong independent predictor of mortality. The aim of this review is to summarize state-of-the-art applications of cardiac MRI for diagnostic and prognostic assessment of patients with suspected or confirmed EMF. The radiologist must understand the challenges these patients face to facilitate a positive patient-physician interaction during the series of postoperative fluoroscopic evaluations. The authors present a standard two-stage surgical approach and common postoperative fluoroscopic findings after perineal masculinization and phalloplasty procedures. Perineal masculinization including urethral lengthening is performed first, followed by skin-flap-based phalloplasty. Patients undergo voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) after intravesical administration of contrast media by way of an indwelling suprapubic catheter after each stage. Retrograde urethrography plays a complementary role to supplement the limitations of VCUG after the second stage. The article reviews the expected postoperative anatomy and explains standardized terminology developed at the authors' institution. Imaging features of common and rare complications are discussed, including contained leak, stenosis, occlusion, and fistula. The successful postoperative imaging study in a transmasculine patient relies on open communication among the interdisciplinary team of specialized surgeons, radiologists, and medical providers, as well as special modifications to existing imaging techniques. ©RSNA, 2020.Autonomous vehicles (AVs) have the potential to shape urban life and significantly modify travel behaviors. "Autonomous technology" means technology that can drive a vehicle without active physical control or monitoring by a human operator. The first AV fleets are already in service in US cities. AVs offer a variety of automation, vehicle ownership, and vehicle use options. AVs could increase some health risks (such as air pollution, noise, and sedentarism); however, if proper regulated, AVs will likely reduce morbidity and mortality from motor vehicle crashes and may help reshape cities to promote healthy urban environments. Healthy models of AV use include fully electric vehicles in a system of ridesharing and ridesplitting. Public health will benefit if proper policies and regulatory frameworks are implemented before the complete introduction of AVs into the market. Expected final online publication date for the Annual Review of Public Health, Volume 41 is April 1, 2020. Please see http//www.annualreviews.org/page/journal/pubdates for revised estimates.Purpose The purpose of the study was to investigate how teachers' pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in the form of task adaptations differed as a function of content knowledge. Method Participants were three elementary school teachers (two females and one male) and their students (n = 66). Functional analysis of instructional events (i.e., adaptations) between teachers and students was used to examine PCK before and after a content knowledge workshop in crawl swimming. The appropriateness of the adaptations was measured and all data were collected through live observation by trained observers. Results All teachers increased their average number of task adaptations per lesson after the content knowledge workshop. Appropriateness of adaptations increased substantially for two teachers but decreased for one teacher. Discussion/Conclusion Functional analysis of student-teacher interactions is a valuable tool to examine teachers' PCK. The interrelationship between student- and teacher behavior can be modified through a content knowledge workshop.
