Development of effective measures for the remediation of lindane contaminated sites is the need of the hour. In this study, a potent lindane degrading bacteria, identified as Rhodococcus rhodochrous NITDBS9 was isolated from an agricultural field of Odisha that could utilize up to 87% of 100 mg L-1 lindane when grown under liquid culture conditions in mineral salt media in 10 days. The bacteria could produce biofilm in lindane containing media. Rhodococcus rhodochrous NITDBS9 was further characterized for its plant growth-promoting properties and it was found that the bacteria showed abilities for phytohormone, ammonia and biosurfactant production etc. This could be beneficial for both bioremediation and improvement of crop production in contaminated sites. Ecotoxicity studies carried out for lindane and its degradation products in mung bean and mustard seeds showed a reduction in toxicity of lindane after treatment with NITDBS9. NITDBS9 was used with a previously isolated potent lindane degrading strain Paracoccus sp. NITDBR1 in a dual mixed culture for enhanced removal of lindane in liquid system i.e., up to 93 % in 10 days. Cytotoxicity studies conducted with lindane before and after treatment with the single and dual mixed cultures on human skin fibroblast and HCT116 cell lines revealed a significant reduction in toxicity of lindane after it was bioremediated with the single and dual mixed cultures. Therefore, our proposed strategy could be efficiently used for detoxification of lindane contaminated system and further work should be carried out to study the use of these cultures in contaminated soil system.Physically demanding water and over land winch rescues are critical tasks for helicopter paramedics. To assess the physiological demands of winch rescue, 14 intensive care flight paramedics (12 male, 2 female, mean (±SD) age 44.3 (±5.4) years, experience 7.1 (±5.2) years) completed land and water-based task simulations. For the land task, VO2 was 41.7 (±4.5) mL kg-1 min-1, or 86 (±11) % of VO2peak. Task duration was 7.0 (±3.6) min, or 53 (±27) % of maximal acceptable work duration (MAWD) (13.2 (±9.0) min). For the water task, VO2 was 36.7 (±4.4) mL kg-1 min-1, (81 (±12) % of VO2peak). Water task duration was 10.2 (±1.1) min, or 47.6 (±4.8) % of calculated MAWD (21.0 (±15.6) min). These results demonstrate that helicopter rescue paramedics work at very high physiological workloads for moderate durations, and these demands should be considered when developing selection tests and when deploying to rescues, to ensure staff are capable of task performance. Practitioner summary Paramedics performed helicopter winch rescue task simulations in water and over land. Paramedics worked at 81% of VO2peak for 10.2 min and 86% of VO2peak for 7 min for swim and land tasks respectively. Rescue organisations should consider these demands when selecting and credentialing staff and when deploying to incidents. Cell-penetrating peptides usually 5-30 amino acids with the characteristic ability to penetrate biological membranes have emerged as promising antimicrobial agents for treating infections as well as an effective delivery modality for biological conjugates such as nucleic acids, drugs, vaccines, nanoparticles, and therapeutic antibodies. However, several factors such as antimicrobial resistance and poor drug delivery of the existing medications justify the urgent need for developing a new class of antimicrobials. Herein, we review cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) used to treat microbial infections. Although these peptides are biologically active for infections, effective transduction into membranes and cargo transport, serum stability, and half-life must be improved for optimum functions and development of next-generation antimicrobial agents.
Using antibodies to block the programmed cell death 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) pathway as an immunotherapy has achieved great success in the clinical treatment of various types of carcinoma. However, the efficacy is limited because of tumor-mediated immune immunosuppression and evasion. This study demonstrated that inhibiting the PI3K pathway with (-)-4-

of
, enhanced the therapeutic efficacy of anti-PD-L1 antibody against esophageal tumors.
mEC25 cells were injected into C57BL/6 mice to establish a syngeneic esophageal tumor model. Tumor infiltration lymphocytes (TILs) were analyzed by flow cytometry. Gene and protein expression was detected by qPCR and western blot, respectively. Moreover, the therapeutic effects of QA combining with anti-PD-L1 antibody were evaluated in the tumor model.
These data demonstrated that inhibition of PI3K with QA could overcome immunosuppression and promote the response of T-lymphocytes, resulting in the restoration of cytotoxic T cell-mediated tumor control. QA and anti-PD-L1 combination therapy significantly delayed tumor growth.
Our results provide a scientific basis to develop combination therapies involving anti-PD-L1 and PI3K inhibitors to improve responses in patients with esophageal cancer.

We explore young adults' narrations of life events in association with nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) discontinuation, psychological growth, and agency.
Transcripts from eleven face-to-face interviews with individuals who quantitatively reported injuring themselves in adolescence (2007-2008) but not in young adulthood (2017) were narratively analysed.
We found that at
, a period preceding an agentic shift in the narrative, participants endured stressful living conditions and mental illness. During this period, participants perceived

NSSI discontinuation was narrated in conjunction with psychological growth when participants also experienced themselves as situated within an agentic context, because agency is understood as necessary to react to and manage current and future life circumstances.

This study aimed to explore child health care nurses' clinical experiences from encounters with mothers exposed to intimate partner violence (IPV), as little research has explored this topic.
Nine child health care nurses from two Swedish regions were interviewed. The interviews were analysed using thematic analysis.
The narratives depicted the nurses' strong commitment to, and professional relationship with, the exposed mothers. The experience of working as a nurse and having encountered IPV in clinical practice made the nurses more confident, which impacted their performance and attitude towards this topic. The ability to uphold the professional relationship was threatened by lack of support and interprofessional collaborations.
The professional relationship was central to the encounters, yet could impose an emotional burden on the nurses. While the nurses wanted to improve their knowledge of the process around the mother and child, they were happy to pass the primary responsibility over to other professionals. The findings highlight the challenge in establishing sustainable support for nurses, and building a transparent collaboration process between the health care sector and the social services, serving the well-being and safety of the mother and child.

To reduce illness and increase quality of life, alternative treatments of PD such as dance might be experienced as beneficial. The aim of this study was to explore experiences of how a dance program in Sweden influences perceived physical, social, and emotional wellbeing in persons with PD.Method A qualitative method with semi-structured interviews and content analysis was used, and 10 participants with variations in age, gender, and how long they had been diagnosed with the disease were interviewed. Results The results showed that dancing was experienced as improving health, which implied feeling both calmed and excited, getting better sleep, and being able to move with more focus and freedom. The dance program was experienced as a social context through the importance of community, feelings of togetherness, and being able to compare oneself with others. Experiences of self-support included experiencing increased self-esteem and joy, but also a sense of being confirmed and having structure, which gave meaning to everyday life. Conclusions To reduce illness and increase quality of life in persons with PD, it is important to investigate alternative treatment methods, and this study shows the importance of participating in a dance program in Sweden for the life situation and health of people with PD.The concentrations level and distribution of 16 US EPA polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) from the water treatment plant (WTP), sewage treatment plant (STP), and industrial water treatment plant (ITP) sludge in Taiwan were determined and then assessed the sources, and potential toxicity (carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (CPAHs) and toxic BaP equivalent (TEQ)). Results indicated that the total concentrations of PAHs ranged between 58 to 16,436 μg/kg dw. Among the 17 samples, the 2-4 ring of total PAHs were the predominant compound in three kinds of treatment plant (> 60%). Especially, ITP1 owns 95.8 % of 2-4 ring of total PAHs and ITP3 owns 54% of total PAHs is five- and six-ring PAHs. The molecular indices and principal component analysis (PCA) were used to determine the source contributions, with the results showing that the contributions of combustion/grass, coal or wood combustion and combustion/ liquid (oil) fossil fuel combustion. A PAH toxicity indicated by TEQ was 2.5-506 μg TEQ/g dw. Selleckchem Ac-FLTD-CMK Although, the results indicated that these were not recommended for land applications, but analyses are beneficial to develop effective management strategies for controlling PAH discharge in treatment plants and establishing strategies for its reuse in managing pollutants.
