Performing prostate MRI without DCE (bpMRI) will reduce acquisition time, decrease cost and potentially improve patient safety.Introduction To report the early postoperative patient experience, including symptom response, catheterization, recovery and satisfaction, following treatment with two minimally invasive surgical therapies (MIST) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) mechanical disobstruction with UroLift prostatic urethral lift (PUL) and tissue ablation with steam injection (Rezum). Materials and methods Patient reported outcomes of 53 non-retention patients from two U.S. sites patients who underwent PUL (n = 30) or Rezum (n = 23) were collected within 2 months post-treatment. There were no exclusion criteria for baseline symptoms, prostate size, or BPH medical therapy. Patients completed questionnaires which assessed postoperative BPH symptoms and characteristics. Outcomes were compared between treatment arms with unpaired t-tests and Fisher's exact tests. Results PUL and Rezum patients were similar in age and prostate volume; patients completed the questionnaire an average of 30 ± 11 days post-treatment. Absolute mean International Prostate Symptom Score and quality of life was significantly better for PUL patients. Seven percent of PUL patients were catheterized by postoperative day 3 compared to 55% of Rezum patients (p = 0.0003). PUL patients experienced a rate of 83% treatment satisfaction (versus 65% for Rezum, p = 0.2) and less interference with daily activities (sports interference, p = 0.007; entertainment interference, p = 0.01; community interference, p = 0.04). Both groups reported BPH medication use following treatment (37% PUL versus 91% Rezum), albeit significantly higher for Rezum (p less then 0.0001). Telemedicine (e-clinics or virtual clinics) would help achieve the goal of risk stratification.This study assessed the relationship between the ability of Natural Killer (NK) cells to activate antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity against human HT29 colorectal cancer cells exposed to cetuximab and the body mass index of the human subjects from whom the NK cells had been obtained. NK cells obtained from 73 human donors were co-incubated with HT-29 human colon cancer cells in the presence or absence of cetuximab. Antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity was assessed by measuring LDH release. A significant negative correlation was observed between body mass index and cetuximab-induced antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. NK cells obtained from subjects who were overweight or with obesity were less efficient in killing cetuximab-treated HT29 cells than those derived from normal weight donors. Our results suggest that the success of cetuximab-containing regimens might be impaired in overweight and obese patients with colorectal cancer.We sought to measure whether, and to what extent, correlations existed between trait-level cooperation and competition and different forms of intergroup prejudice. We recruited two samples of heterosexual European-American participants (n = 113 and n = 223) from a U.S. national panel survey service. Participants completed measures of racial, gender, and sexual orientation prejudice as questionnaires. In both samples, we found that trait competition tended to positively correlate with explicit measures, such that increasing trait competition was associated with higher degrees of prejudice. Interestingly, we found that different "families" of prejudice had different correlational profiles with trait competition, such that those with racial and gender prejudice had larger magnitudes than sexual orientation prejudice. Separately, trait cooperation only correlated reliably with prejudicial attitudes toward African Americans, such that increasing trait cooperation was associated with lower levels of prejudice.Dairy operations generate large volumes of polluted wastewater that require treatment prior to discharge. Chemically enhanced primary treatment (CEPT) is a widely utilized wastewater treatment strategy; but it requires the use of non-biodegradable coagulants that can lead to toxic-byproducts. In this study, chitin from shrimp shell waste is extracted and converted into chitosan. Chitosan was demonstrated to be a natural, low-cost alternative coagulant compatible with the CEPT. Following treatment, dissolved air flotation allowed for the removal of turbidity, COD, and UV254 from the synthetic dairy effluent (SDE). Doehlert matrix was used to optimize the chitosan dosage and pH of the CEPT; as well as to model the process. The mechanisms behind the coagulation-flocculation were revealed using zeta potential analysis. FTIR spectroscopy was utilized to confirm the functional groups present on the chitosan. Chitosan with a degree of deacetylation equal to 81% was obtained. A chitosan dose of 73.34 mg/L at pH 5.00 was found to be optimal for the removal of pollutants.
