These results demonstrate that continuous exposure of HepaRG cells to a noncytotoxic concentration of NaAsO2 results in substantial epigenetic abnormalities accompanied by several carcinogenesis-related events, including induction of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, damage to DNA, inhibition of DNA repair genes, and induction of de novo mutations. Importantly, this study highlights the intimate mechanistic link and interplay between two fundamental cancer-associated events, epigenetic and genetic alterations, in arsenic-associated carcinogenesis.Overyielding, the primary metric for assessing biodiversity effects on ecosystem functions, is often partitioned into "complementarity" and "selection" components, but this reveals nothing about the role of increased resource use, resource-use efficiency, or trait plasticity. We obtained multiple overyielding values by comparing productivity in a five-species mixture to expected values from its component monocultures at a) six levels of nitrogen addition (spanning 0-500 kg N ha-1 year-1) and b) across four seasons. We also measured light, water, and nitrogen use, resource-use efficiency, and three functional traits-leaf nitrogen content, specific leaf area, and leaf area ratio-n mixtures and monocultures. We found strong evidence for non-transgressive overyielding. This was strongest in spring, with mixture productivity exceeding expected values by 20 kg dry matter ha-1 day-1. Peak overyielding was driven by enhanced complementarity, with the two non-N2-fixing forb species far exceeding expected productivity in mixtures. Peak overyielding also coincided with higher water use in the mixture than for any monoculture, and enhanced mixture-resource-use efficiency. There was only weak evidence that trait plasticity influenced overyielding or resource use. Our findings suggest that when complementarity drives overyielding in grassland mixtures, and this is made possible both by increased water use and enhanced efficiency in water, nitrogen, and light use. Our results also suggest that mixtures offer a viable compromise between productivity, resource-use efficiency, and reduced environmental impacts (i.e., nitrate leaching) from intensive agriculture. While initial reports regarding coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) focused on its pulmonary manifestations, more recent literature describes multisystem abnormalities related to its associated microvascular angiopathy. Calciphylaxis is a rare systemic condition characterized by tissue necrosis in the setting of systemic microvascular calcifications. Both COVID-19 and calciphylaxis are procoagulant diagnoses associated with vascular-mediated cutaneous findings. selleck inhibitor To our knowledge, this is the first report to document the coexistence of COVID-19 associated retiform thrombotic purpura and calciphylaxis in a single patient, to link the pathologic etiologies of the two entities, and to describe the concomitant diagnoses' associated radiologic findings."Acral FibroChondroMyxoid tumor" (AFCMT) is a recently described distinctive subtype of acral soft tissue tumor that typically arises on the fingers and toes. We herein present the unreported imaging features of AFCMT in a 44-year-old woman. This otherwise healthy patient was referred for a painful, slow-growing, soft tissue mass in the middle finger of her right hand. Initial radiographs and computed tomography showed a small lesion centered in the soft tissue of the ulnar aspect of the proximal phalanx, associated with scalloping of the underlying bone. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the presence of a well-circumscribed soft tissue tumor that exhibited relatively high T2-weighted signal intensity and marked enhancement after contrast administration. Subsequent excisional biopsy was performed. Histologically, the tumor was characterized by an abundant stroma displaying fibrous, chondroid, and myxoid areas. By immunohistochemistry, tumor cells stained for CD34, ERG, and focally S100 protein. RNA-sequencing allowed detection of THBS1-ADGFR5 gene fusion which confirmed the diagnosis of AFCMT. At 2-year follow-up, the patient remains free of recurrence. AFCMT is a previously unrecognized entity that may mimic chondroma and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue tumors with cartilaginous or myxoid stroma in the extremities.
Robotic surgery represents the latest development in the field of minimally invasive surgery and offers many technical advantages. Despite the higher costs, this novel approach has been applied increasingly in gynecological surgery. Regarding the implementation of a new operative method; however, the most important factor to be aware of is patient safety. In this study, we describe our experience in implementing robotic surgery in a German University Hospital focusing on patient safety after 110 procedures.
We performed a retrospective analysis of 110 consecutive robotic procedures performed in the University Hospital of Würzburg between June 2017 and September 2019. During this time, 37 patients were treated for benign general gynecological conditions, 27 patients for gynecological malignancies, and 46 patients for urogynecological conditions. We evaluated patient safety through standardized assessment of intra- and postoperative complications, which were categorized according to the Clavien-Dindo classification.
No complications were recorded in 90 (81.8%) operations. We observed Clavien-Dindo grade I complications in 8 (7.3%) cases, grade II complications in 5 (4.5%) cases, grade IIIa complications in 1 case (0.9%), and grade IIIb complications in 6 (5.5%) cases. No conversion to laparotomy or blood transfusion was needed.
Robotic surgery could be implemented for complex gynecological operations without relevant problems and was accompanied by low complication rates.

To assess the demographic and clinical profile of thyroid eye disease (TED) presenting to a Tertiary Eye Care Institute in India.
All patients who were diagnosed to have TED between the year 2007 and 2017 at the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Service, LV Prasad Eye Institute, were included in this retrospective observational study. The demographic details of parameters such as age, gender and laterality, presenting signs and symptoms, clinical activity at presentation, and systemic thyroid status were assessed.
A total of 1000 consecutive patients of TED were evaluated in the 10-year period. Average age at presentation was 44.9years (range 8-89). Of the 1000, 529 (53%) were males, and 358 (36%) had unilateral TED. At presentation, the TED was active (time since onset ≤ 12months) in 476 (48%) cases and 71 (7%) had dysthyroid optic neuropathy. Of the 913 patients where systemic thyroid status was available at the time of presentation, 342 (37%) were euthyroid at presentation. Of the patients who were active at presentation (n = 476), 349 (70.
