Additionally, repetition selectively benefited source memory in the second test, validating our interpretation of the second test as a measure for source storage. Altogether, our novel source recognition test offers a promising method for investigating various well-known source memory phenomena more comprehensively.Introduction. This study aimed to investigate safety climate and its structural dimensions as well as establish a relationship between safety climate and demographic variables in a power distribution company. Method. This cross-sectional study included 200 workers. The safety climate questionnaire recommended by the UK Health and Safety Executive was applied containing 43 questions in 11 dimensions. Demographic information was also assessed. SPSS version 22.0 was applied to analyze the data. Results. In total, 179 workers participated in this survey. The response rate was high (89.5%). Safety climate had the highest correlation with the management commitment dimension (r = 0.754). The total score of safety climate in this company was 3.37 on a scale ranging from 1 to 5. Among safety climate factors, the highest score was for safety-related training (3.87) but work pressure had the lowest score (2.80). Among demographic variables, a significant relationship was observed between safety climate and age (r = 0.180). Conclusions. Management as an organizational power can exert great influence on the promotion of safety climate. Moreover, adopting efficient training programs and making a balance in workload for decreasing work pressure can improve safety climate.Aptamers are structured oligonucleotides that specifically bind their targets. Oligonucleotides can be assembled in large nanostructures via intermolecular duplexes or G-quadruplexes. Addition of aptamers can be used to create nanostructures that bind specifically certain targets. Here two types of self-assembling locks were used to create bimodular aptamer constructions. Well-known aptamer to thrombin was chosen as a model object. The assembly of duplex locks was more efficient at low concentrations. The functional activity of aptamer modules was nearly the same as in HD1. However, the affinity of bimodular aptamers with G-quadruplex locks to immobilized thrombin was 5-10 times higher. The well known linear chain trick (LCT) allows modellers to derive mean field ODEs that assume gamma (Erlang) distributed passage times, by transitioning individuals sequentially through a chain of sub-states. The time spent in these sub-states is the sum of k exponentially distributed random variables, and is thus gamma distributed. The generalized linear chain trick (GLCT) extends this technique to the broader phase-type family of distributions, which includes exponential, Erlang, hypoexponential, and Coxian distributions. Phase-type distributions are the family of matrix exponential distributions on [0,∞) that represent the absorption time distributions for finite-state, continuous time Markov chains (CTMCs). Here we review CTMCs and phase-type distributions, then illustrate how to use the GLCT to efficiently build ODE models from underlying stochastic model assumptions. We introduce two novel model families by using the GLCT to generalize the Rosenzweig-MacArthur predator-prey model, and the SEIR model. We illustrate the kinds of complexity that can be captured by such models through multiple examples. We also show the benefits of using a GLCT-based model formulation to speed up the computation of numerical solutions to such models. These results highlight the intuitive nature, and utility, of using the GLCT to derive ODE models from first principles.Rapidly destructive coxopathy (RDC) is a disease that is sometimes seen in geriatric patients. A total hip arthroplasty (THA) is mostly chosen to treat the RDC, but few cases are known that received THAs due to RDC associated with dialysis amyloidosis. We report a case of RDC due to dialysis amyloidosis with special references to its pathophysiology. The case involved a 61-year-old male who had been on dialysis for seven years due to diabetic nephropathy. At his first visit, the radiographs showed collapse and flattening of the femoral head, which progressed within a month. Magnetic resonance imaging for the hip disclosed bone marrow edoema of the acetabulum and sclerosis of the subchondral bone of the femoral head. Biochemical analyses for the blood revealed high inflammatory reactions with elevated C-reactive protein and white blood cell count, but the joint fluid cultures were negative for general bacteria, tubercle bacillus, and nontuberculous mycobacteria. As he did not have gastrointestinal disorders or inflammatory arthritis other than the left hip and no disease that caused elevated inflammatory reactions was observed, we diagnosed the patient with RDC due to dialysis amyloidosis, and a THA was performed. Pathological findings for the synovium collected during surgery showed infiltration of the inflammatory mononuclear cells and vascular hyperplasia. The synovial tissues were extensively stained with an antibody to β2-microglobulin. Many tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-positive multinucleated cells were also observed in the synovium. One year after surgery, his left hip pain disappeared and he returned to work. The parallel consulting method (PCM) is widely used by general practitioners (GPs) for teaching medical students. Studies have described individual aspects of bedside teaching in community settings, including the logistics of using the PCM, but there has been no evaluation of it as a teaching method. This study aimed to evaluate the PCM and whether it helped students develop consultation, clinical and clinical reasoning skills. The study was based at the Oxford University Primary Care Department. Penultimate clinical year students (n = 63) were recruited to take part in this mixed methods study. Students completed a questionnaire with closed and open-ended questions rating the PCM. TGF-beta inhibitor A focus group explored questionnaire themes. GP tutors completed a questionnaire about the PCM and the logistics of delivering it. Three tutors took part in semi-structured interviews. The PCM helped develop students' consulting, and clinical reasoning skills. Teaching was improved when tutors were unrushed and had increased time to provide feedback and teaching.
