The traits system switched to higher optimal temperature, more summer spawning, shorter life span, smaller maximum size, shallower optimal depth and planktivorous diet. This shift was found to be a lagged discontinuous response to sea warming, which gradually eroded the resilience of the original state of the traits system, leading it into a new basin of attraction. The inclusion of ecological/response traits (related to environmental preferences) in our analyses indicates potential mechanisms that explain the observed shift, while changes of functional/effect traits indicate potential impacts on ecosystem functioning. Our findings suggest that changes in the Mediterranean ecosystems are evidently larger than previously thought, with profound implications for the management of this highly impacted sea.Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is associated with elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines implicated in disease aetiology and matrix degradation. Toll-like receptor-4 (TLR4) has been shown to participate in the inflammatory responses of the nucleus pulposus (NP) and its levels are upregulated in disc degeneration. Activation of TLR4 in NP cells leads to significant, persistent changes in cell biophysical properties, including hydraulic permeability and osmotically active water content, as well as alterations to the actin cytoskeleton. The study hypothesis was that inflammation-induced changes to cellular biomechanical properties and actin cytoskeleton of NP cells could be prevented by inhibiting TLR4 signalling. Isolated NP cells from bovine discs were treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), the best studied TLR4 agonist, with or without treatment with the TLR4 inhibitor TAK-242. Cellular volume regulation responses to step osmotic loading were measured and the transient volume-response was captured by time-lapse microscopy. Volume-responses were analysed using mixture theory framework to investigate hydraulic permeability and osmotically active intracellular water content. Hydraulic permeability and cell radius were significantly increased with LPS treatment and these changes were blocked in cells treated with TAK-242. LPS-induced remodelling of cortical actin and IL-6 upregulation were also mitigated by TAK-242 treatment. These findings indicated that TLR4 signalling participated in NP cell biophysical regulation and may be an important target for mitigating altered cell responses observed in IVD inflammation and degeneration. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) manages Magnet Recognition Program® certification. Candidates for this certification are required to pass a review comprising six compulsory documents and 84 sets of written documents in five model components as well as an onsite appraisal. The Magnet Recognition Program® for medical institutes is currently regarded as the highest honor in the nursing field. The series of measures necessary to establish a Magnet-recognized hospital is described in this article. Our hospital began preparation for recognition in January 2016, with the application submitted in May 2017. The required measures include establishing a Professional Practice Model, Governance Council, and National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators as well as implementing a mentoring plan. ANCC approved Magnet Recognition Program® recognition for our hospital in May 2020, making ours the first Magnet-recognized hospital in Taiwan. The nursing staff shared their experiences on their Magnet journey. Magnet-recognition demonstrates that a hospital is adequately equipped and trained to provide patients with outstanding nursing care and to operate an excellent nursing practice environment.Cross-disciplinarity is a current trend in healthcare. PI-103 clinical trial With the advancement of science and technology, the expansion of care fields, and the complexity of health problems, cross-disciplinary research has been increasingly emphasized in nursing studies in order to introduce technology into patient care, expand the scope of healthcare research, and improve quality of care. The term cross-disciplinary research typically covers multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary studies. Each of these types of studies differ in terms of connotation, level of research problem addressed, and degree of interaction involved. The main purpose of this article is to describe the significance of cross-disciplinary research in nursing and to distinguish the types and nature of cross-disciplinary studies. Furthermore, reflections and recommendations on cross-disciplinary nursing research are also proposed. The development of cross-disciplinary nursing research is phased in nature and requires the creation of a cross-disciplinary research center and excellent leadership. Conducting cross-disciplinary nursing research is challenging and affected by uncertainty. Researchers may select the type of cross-disciplinary research that best addresses the complexity and commonality of the research problem being addressed. In addition, researchers may expand, communicate, and interact with other disciplines to improve their interdisciplinary research capabilities and opportunities.Trauma that is rooted in extremely stressful events is an important factor affecting human health. Patients who have experienced trauma may present in a variety of different ways in healthcare settings. One of these ways is the exhibiting of strong emotional or behavioral reactions triggered by traumatic memories. Caring for patients affected by known or unknown trauma is a significant challenge for healthcare providers. The core of trauma-informed care includes understanding trauma; respecting, empathizing and responding to the needs and reactions of patients with trauma; and providing care in a manner that prevents re-traumatization. In this article, the impact of trauma on overall health is introduced followed by a presentation of trauma triggers in the healthcare context, underscoring the importance of prioritizing care for patients with a history of trauma. Lastly, the concept and principles of trauma-informed care are incorporated into healthcare practice, providing specific, practical application strategies for healthcare providers to use in clinical settings.
