MEK inhibitor PD98059 (30 μM) or U0126 (10 μM) significantly decreased dopaminergic neurons 5 days after the 6-OHDA injection. During the regeneration process of dopaminergic neurons, phosphorylated histone H3 (H3P)-positive stem cells known as "neoblasts" were increased in the head region; however, MEK inhibitors significantly decreased the number of H3P-positive neoblasts. These results suggested that dopaminergic neuronal regeneration in planarian was regulated by the MEK/ERK pathway.Bullying is known to be associated with social status, but it remains unclear how bullying involvement over time relates to social position (status and affection), especially in the first years at a new school. β-Estradiol The aim of this study was to investigate whether (the development of) bullying and victimization was related to the attainment of status (perceived popularity) and affection (friendships, acceptance, rejection) in the first years of secondary education (six waves). Using longitudinal data spanning the first- and second year of secondary education of 824 adolescents (51.5% girls; Mage T1 = 12.54, SD = 0.45) in the SNARE-study, joint bullying and victimization trajectories were estimated using parallel Latent Class Growth Analysis (LCGA). The four trajectories (decreasing bully, stable high bully, decreasing victim, uninvolved) were related to adolescents' social position using multigroup analysis that examined differences in slope and intercepts (T1 and T6) of social positions, and indicated that the relative social position of the different joint trajectories was determined at the start of secondary education and did not change over time, with one exception adolescents continuing bullying were besides being popular also increasingly rejected over time. Although bullying is functional behavior that serves to optimize adolescents' social position, anti-bullying interventions may account for the increasing lack of affection that may hinder bullies' long-term social development.Room temperature fluorescence in vivo and its light-induced changes are dominated by chlorophyll a fluorescence excited in photosystem II, F(II), peaking around 685 nm. Photosystem I fluorescence, F(I), peaking around 730 nm, so far has been assumed to be constant in vivo. Here, we present evidence for significant contributions of F(I) to variable fluorescence in the green unicellular alga Chlorella vulgaris, the cyanobacterium Synechococcus leopoliensis and a light-green ivy leaf. A Multi-Color-PAM fluorometer was applied for measurements of the polyphasic fluorescence rise (O-I1-I2-P) induced by strong 440 nm light in a dilute suspension of Chlorella, with detection alternating between emission above 700 nm (F > 700) and below 710 nm (F 700 and F less then 710. However, a light-green young ivy leaf gave qualitatively similar results as those obtained with the suspensions, thus strongly suggesting the existence of Fv(I) also in leaves.
The global prevalence of obesity and increase in bariatric surgeries are burdening the healthcare system. Enhanced recovery postoperative protocols are associated with a reduction in hospitalization costs and length of stay (LOS) and may be an alternative to reduce public health expenses.
To assess the impact of implementing a customized Enhanced Recovery After Bariatric Surgery (ERABS) protocol on hospitalization costs (HC), LOS, and complication rates.
Santa Marcelina Hospital, São Paulo, Brazil.
A retrospective electronic health record analysis of patients who underwent laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and who were cared for within a clinical pathway (CP) protocol (Jan. 2016-Aug. 2018) or after implementation of an ERABS protocol (Aug. 2018-Jun. 2019). The LOS, HC, and complication, readmission, and reoperation rates were compared between the two groups.
Eighty-two patients were included in the study (CP, 56, 87.5% women; ERABS, 26, 92.3% women). Hospital LOS and total HC decreased significantly by 32.5% and 15.2%, respectively (both, p < 0.05), after implementation of ERABS. There were no significant differences in 30-day readmission, complication, or reoperation rates.
The implementation of a standardized enhanced recovery program resulted in reduced LOS and HC without an increase in perioperative morbidity. The ERABS protocol is cost-effective and can help ease the healthcare burden.

Gallbladder pathology is diverse, and imaging tests are essential tools for its diagnosis. Acute cholecystitis has multiple manifestations or complications, one of which is hemorrhagic cholecystitis (HC). In the current literature, this pathology has been described only in the spectrum of acute cholecystitis complications, case reports, or series with a maximum of 2 to 3 cases. After a retrospective review, we present 11 cases of hemorrhagic cholecystitis and discuss its various causes, clinical presentations, and findings on ultrasound (US) and computed tomography (CT), considering dual-energy CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
A retrospective review of 6 years (2012-2018) of hemorrhagic cholecystitis cases diagnosed at our hospital was performed. A search engine of medical terms was used and the database of radiological cases in the emergency department of the hospital. After a careful review by two emergency and one abdominal radiologists, 11 patients were identified as hemorrhagic cholecystitis is.
Although a rare entity, hemorrhagic cholecystitis may be present, and management can be delayed if the appropriate imaging modality is not used for diagnosis.Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) is caused by the severe acute Respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), which has become unstoppable, spreading rapidly worldwide and, consequently, reaching a pandemic level. This review aims to provide the information available so far on the likely animal origin of SARS-CoV-2 and its possible hosts/reservoirs as well as all natural animal infections and experimental evidence using animal models. Horseshoe bats from the species Rhinolophus affinis seem to be a natural reservoir and pangolins (Manis javanica) appear to be an intermediate host of SARS-CoV-2. Humans remain the most likely spreading source of SARS-CoV-2 to other humans and also to domestic, zoo and farm animals. Indeed, human-to-animal transmission has been reported in cats, dogs, tigers, lions, a puma and minks. Animal-to-human transmission is not a sustained pathway, although mink-to-human transmission remains to be elucidated. Through experimental infections, other animals seem also to be susceptible hosts for SARS-CoV-2, namely ferrets, some non-human primate species, hamsters and transgenic mice, while dogs, pigs and poultry are resistant.
