graphics. • Fewer than half of imaging studies assessed model performance on explicitly unobserved test data partitions. • Design and reporting standards have improved in CNN research for radiological cancer diagnosis, though many opportunities remain for further progress.
To examine the various roles of radiologists in different steps of developing artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

Through the case study of eight companies active in developing AI applications for radiology, in different regions (Europe, Asia, and North America), we conducted 17 semi-structured interviews and collected data from documents. Based on systematic thematic analysis, we identified various roles of radiologists. We describe how each role happens across the companies and what factors impact how and when these roles emerge.

We identified 9 roles that radiologists play in different steps of developing AI applications (1) problem finder (in 4 companies); (2) problem shaper (in 3 companies); (3) problem dominator (in 1 company); (4) data researcher (in 2 companies); (5) data labeler (in 3 companies); (6) data quality controller (in 2 companies); (7) algorithm shaper (in 3 companies); (8) algorithm tester (in 6 companies); and (9) AI researcher (in 1 company).

Radiologists can play a wide range of roles in the development of AI applications. How actively they are engaged and the way they are interacting with the development teams significantly vary across the cases. GSK1070916 nmr Radiologists need to become proactive in engaging in the development process and embrace new roles.

• Radiologists can play a wide range of roles during the development of AI applications. • Both radiologists and developers need to be open to new roles and ways of interacting during the development process. • The availability of resources, time, expertise, and trust are key factors that impact how actively radiologists play roles in the development process.

This study attempted to evaluate the characteristics and prognostic value of myocardial fibrosis (MF) in aortic insufficiency (AI) patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) or tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR).

A total of 314 adults with CMR-diagnosed AI were retrospectively retrieved. Of them, 166 patients with moderate or severe AI were included and divided into two groups BAV group (N = 46) and a TAV group (N = 120). The presence and characteristics of MF were assessed with CMR. The patients were followed for adverse clinical events. The prognostic capability of the parameters was assessed using Cox regression model.

LV fibrosis was more common in the BAV group than in the TAV group (65.2% vs. 45.0%; p = 0.020). There was a strong association between BAV and MF even after adjusting for clinical and imaging variables (odds ratio 3.57; p = 0.031). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed a higher rate of clinical adverse events in AI+BAV patients with MF during a median follow-up of gadolinium enhancement could be used as an independent predictor of adverse clinical events in this population.
To evaluate the value of gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced MRI in predicting the pathologic grade of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Patients with pathologically proven HCC who underwent preoperative gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced dynamic MRI were included. Two radiologists blinded to pathology results evaluated images in consensus. Lesions were evaluated quantitatively in terms of ratio of enhancement (RE), and qualitatively based on image features related to tumor aggressiveness. Logistic regression and ROC analyses were used to determine the value of these parameters to predict pathologic grade.

In total, 221 patients (194 males, 27 females, aged 52.9 ± 11.7 years) with 49 poorly differentiated HCCs and 172 well/moderately differentiated HCCs were evaluated. Features significantly related to poorer pathologic grade at univariate analysis included lower RE in the early arterial phase (EAP) (p = 0.001), nonsmooth margins (p = 0.001), absence of capsule (p < 0.001), arterial peritumoral hyperenhancemeators for preoperative prediction of poorer pathologic grade of HCC on gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced MRI. • A lower RE in the early arterial phase was effective at predicting poorer pathologic grade of HCCs but prediction is improved when combined with absence of capsule and presence of peritumoral hyperenhancement.
• Gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced dynamic MRI was a useful quantitative biomarker for preoperative prediction of pathologic grade in patients with HCC. • Lower RE in the early arterial phase, absence of capsule, and arterial peritumoral hyperenhancement were potential imaging indicators for preoperative prediction of poorer pathologic grade of HCC on gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced MRI. • A lower RE in the early arterial phase was effective at predicting poorer pathologic grade of HCCs but prediction is improved when combined with absence of capsule and presence of peritumoral hyperenhancement. In Southeast Asia, projections of rapid urban growth coupled with high water-related risks call for large investments in infrastructure-including in blue-green infrastructure (BGI) such as forests, parks, or vegetated engineered systems. However, most of the knowledge on BGI is produced in the global North, overlooking the diversity of urban contexts globally. Here, we review the literature on BGI for flood risk mitigation and water quality improvement in Southeast Asian cities to understand the scope of practical knowledge and identify research needs. We searched for evidence of local types of BGI in peer-reviewed and grey literature and assessed the performance of BGI based on hydrological, societal, and environmental metrics. The body of literature on BGI in Southeast Asia is small and dominated by wealthier countries but we found evidence of uptake among researchers and practitioners in most countries. Bioretention systems, constructed wetlands, and green cover received the most attention in research. Evidence from modelling and laboratory studies confirmed the potential for BGI to address flooding and water quality issues in the region.
