The mean of BMI and WC was higher in the vitamin D deficient than in the vitamin D sufficient group (19.31kg/m
and 69.24cm vs. 18.34kg/m
and 65.73cm, respectively, P < 0.01). Multivariate linear regression models revealed a significant association of vitamin D insufficiency with WC and W/HtR (P < 0.05). Likewise, in the multivariate regression models, vitamin D deficiency was associated with BMI, WC, and W/HtR (P < 0.05).
Our findings on the inverse association between vitamin D status and some anthropometric measures underscore the importance of providing vitamin D by fortification and supplementation programs of vitamin D for the pediatric population.

V.Sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) taxes related to the quantity of sugar have appeared as a popular regulatory tool around the world during the last decade showing important variations in their implementation and impact. We evaluated the impact of a new SSB tax implemented in Catalonia since May 1, 2017 on the purchased quantities and penetration rates of taxed and untaxed cola beverages. We use aggregate time series of cola beverages purchases in all 17 Spanish Autonomous Communities before and after the implementation of the SBB tax in Catalonia, from January 2013 to June 2019. A comparison between two different types of causal inference methods was conducted a two-way fixed effects difference in differences model and a modified synthetic control model. Regular cola purchases decreased 12.1% and their penetration rate decreased by 1.27 points during the two post-intervention years using the preferred model. Diet cola purchases increased 17.0% and their penetration rate also increased by 1.65 points. Only regular cola results were robust to all placebo test checks. The SSB tax implemented in Catalonia in 2017 significantly reduced the volume and penetration rates of regular colas with no robust evidence for the substitution effect on diet colas.Ultrasmall metallic nanoparticles show an efficient autofluorescence after excitation in the UV region, combined with a low degree of fluorescent bleaching. Thus, they can be used as fluorescent labels for polymer nanoparticles which are frequently used for drug delivery. A versatile water-in-oil-in-water emulsion-evaporation method was developed to load poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanoparticles with autofluorescent ultrasmall gold and silver/gold nanoparticles (diameter 2 nm). The metallic nanoparticles were prepared by reduction of tetrachloroauric acid with sodium borohydride and colloidally stabilised with 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid. They were characterised by UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, showing a large Stokes shift of about 370 nm with excitation maxima at 250/270 nm and emission maxima at 620/640 nm for gold and silver/gold nanoparticles, respectively. The labelled PLGA nanoparticles (140 nm) were characterised by dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. Their uptake by HeLa cells was followed by confocal laser scanning microscopy. The metallic nanoparticles remained inside the PLGA particle after cellular uptake, demonstrating the efficient encapsulation and the applicability to label the polymer nanoparticle. dBET6 In terms of fluorescence, the metallic nanoparticles were comparable to fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC).The internal surface of the animal gastrointestinal tract is covered by microbial biofilms. They play an important role in the development and functioning of the host organism and protect it against pathogens. Microbial communities of gastrointestinal biofilms are less elucidated than luminal microbiota. Therefore, the studies of biofilm formation by gastrointestinal microorganisms are a topical issue. For the first time, we report the formation of a biofilm in vitro by the strains of bioluminescent bacteria isolated from the intestines of marine fish. These bacteria exhibit co-aggregation and tend to attach to solid surfaces. The attachment of cells is accompanied by appearance of the pili. Then, we observed the formation of microcolonies and the production of extracellular polymer substances (EPSs) connecting bacterial cells into an integrated system. The presence of acidic polysaccharides is shown in the EPS when using the ruthenium red staining. Acidic polysaccharides in this matrix is a biochemical evidence of microbial biofilms. On the fibers of the polymer matrix, these bacteria form the "mushroom body"-type structures. Matured biofilms exhibit a specific three-dimensional architecture with pores and channels formed by cells and EPS. We also demonstrated the formation of a biofilm by binary culture of the luminous enterobacterium Kosakonia cowanii and a Gram-positive Macrococcus sp. The data obtained help to understand the role of these bacteria in the intestines of fish. They lead to a new study in the field of investigation of the intestinal microbiome of fish.Until now, human bioequivalence (BE) studies were conducted based on the revised 'Guideline for Bioequivalence Studies of Generic Products' issued in 2012 by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) in Japan. However, revisions of BE guidelines were required to account for the globalization of pharmaceutical development, new technology, and scientific rationales over the last 8 years. Therefore, the MHLW published the revised 'Guideline for Bioequivalence Studies of Generic Products' in 2020. In this article, we introduce the main revised contents, such as the addition of a fed-state BE study, reconsideration of the pilot study and add-on study, acceptance of foreign subjects in a BE study, and clarification of the requirement of a reference product. Furthermore, we compare the BE evaluations of generic oral solid dosage forms with those of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA), the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The diagnosis or treatment of breast cancer is sometimes delayed. A lengthy delay may have a negative psychological impact on patients. The aim of our study was to evaluate the sociodemographic, clinical and pathological factors associated with delay in the provision of surgical treatment for localised breast cancer, in a prospective cohort of patients.
This observational, prospective, multicentre study was conducted in ten hospitals belonging to the Spanish national public health system, located in four Autonomous Communities (regions). The study included 1236 patients, diagnosed through a screening programme or found to be symptomatic, between April 2013 and May 2015. The study variables analysed included each patient's personal history, care situation, tumour history and data on the surgical intervention, pathological anatomy, hospital admission and follow-up. Treatment delay was defined as more than 30days elapsed between biopsy and surgery.
Over half of the study population experienced surgical treatment delay.
