Iatrogenic injuries to the peripheral nervous system after orthopaedic surgery and traumatology procedures are infrequent, but given their mechanism of injury and the high severity of most of them, it would be advisable to implement corrective mechanisms to reduce their incidence.
IV.
IV.The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has given rise to the urgent need for vaccines and therapeutic interventions to address the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in development, and those being distributed currently, have been designed to induce neutralizing antibodies using the spike protein of the virus as an immunogen. However, the immunological correlates of protection against the virus remain unknown. This raises questions about the efficacy of current vaccination strategies. In addition, safety profiles of several vaccines seem inadequate or have not yet been evaluated under controlled experimentation. Here, evidence from the literature regarding the efforts already made to identify the immunological correlates of protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection are summarized. Furthermore, key biological features of most of the advanced vaccines and considerations regarding their safety and expected efficacy are highlighted.
Routine evacuation of pregnant Indigenous women from remote regions to urban centres for childbirth is a central strategy for addressing maternal health disparities in Canada. Maternal evacuation continues despite mounting evidence of its negative impacts on Indigenous women and families.
Since the 1960s, pregnant Indigenous women living in remote regions in Canada have been transferred to urban hospitals for childbirth. In the following decades, evidence emerged linking maternal evacuation with negative impacts on Indigenous women, their families, and communities. In some communities, resistance to evacuation and the creation of local birthing facilities has resulted in highly diverse experiences of childbirth and evacuation.
A scoping review mapped the evidence on maternal evacuation of Indigenous women in Canada and its associated factors and outcomes from 1978 to 2019.
We searched MEDLINE, Embase, and CINAHL, and grey literature from governmental and Indigenous organizations. We collated the evidemmunities remains a critical knowledge gap.
The purpose of this study was to compare the diagnostic performance of ultra-low dose (ULD) to that of standard (STD) computed tomography (CT) for the diagnosis of non-traumatic abdominal emergencies using clinical follow-up as reference standard.
All consecutive patients requiring emergency abdomen-pelvic CT examination from March 2017 to September 2017 were prospectively included. ULD and STD CTs were acquired after intravenous administration iodinated contrast medium (portal phase). CT acquisitions were performed at 125mAs for STD and 55mAs for ULD. Diagnostic performance was retrospectively evaluated on ULD and STD CTs using clinical follow-up as a reference diagnosis.
A total of 308 CT examinations from 308 patients (145 men; mean age 59.1±20.7 (SD) years; age range 18-96 years) were included; among which 241/308 (78.2%) showed abnormal findings. The effective dose was significantly lower with the ULD protocol (1.55±1.03 [SD] mSv) than with the STD (3.67±2.56 [SD] mSv) (P<0.001). Sensitivity wast abdominal conditions except for bowel obstruction and colitis/diverticulitis detection.
In an emergency context, for patients with non-traumatic abdominal emergencies, ULD-CT showed inferior diagnostic performance compared to STD-CT for most abdominal conditions except for bowel obstruction and colitis/diverticulitis detection.Cancer immunotherapies can successfully activate immune responses towards certain tumors. However, this can also result in the development of treatment-induced immune-related adverse events (irAEs) in multiple tissues. Growing evidence suggests that cytokine production in response to these therapeutics potentiates the development of irAEs and may have predictive value as biomarkers for irAE occurrence. In addition, therapeutic agents that inhibit cytokine activity can limit the severity of irAEs, and their use is being tested in the clinical setting. This review provides an in-depth analysis of strategies to uncouple the cytokine response, that precipitates irAEs following cancer immunotherapies, from the benefit gained in promoting antitumor immunity.
Free anterolateral thigh flap has many applications in head and neck reconstruction surgery. The aims of the present study were (1) to assess functional and esthetic sequelae of harvesting for oncologic purposes; and (2) to assess long-term impact of harvesting on quality of life according to patient and to physician.
Forty-one patients undergoing reconstruction by free anterolateral thigh flap following oncologic head and neck surgery were assessed by questionnaire at>6 months postoperatively. Donor site sequelae were assessed in consultation. selleckchem Harvesting impact was assessed on 5-point Likert scales by patient and by surgeon.
Thirty nine percent of patients showed≥1 sequelae. Donor site sequela impact on sport, daily living and work was assessed by patients as none or mild in 94%, 98% and 100% of cases, respectively. Sixty-one percent of patientsand 58.5% of surgeons considered scar esthetics to be discreet or very discreet.
Morbidity related to anterolateral thigh flap harvesting was low, and functional sequelae at the donor site were well tolerated. The scar was only moderately satisfactory, but could easily be hidden.

Childhood otitis media with effusion (OME) is a frequent disease often misunderstood by parents. Information on the Internet is of variable quality and readability. The aim of this study was to measure the quality and readability of French websites related to OME.
An advanced Google search was conducted using the terms "Otite séro-muqueuse OR Otite séreuse". Quality was assessed on DISCERN criteria. Readability was assessed using Flesch Reading Ease Scoring (FRES), Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level (FKGL), the Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG) and a Fry graph. Medians and standard deviations were calculated. Correlation between quality and readability was assessed on Spearman r coefficient.
The first ten websites meeting inclusion and exclusion criteria were evaluated. One had been updated during the last 12 months. Median DISCERN score was 49±13.7/80. Median FRES score was 46±9.5/100. Median USA grade-level estimated by FKGL and SMOG respectively was 11±1.7 and 12±1.5. Six websites had Fry score>12. One website showed high quality.
