Chronic conditions require continuous, multi-factorial care - such as person-centred care - to address patients' individual health needs and quality of life. Many patients with chronic conditions seek additional care outside mainstream medicine, often consulting complementary medicine (CM) practitioners. This study examines person-centred care experienced by patients with chronic conditions consulting CM practitioners.

Patient perceptions of person-centred care were consistently high during consultation with CM practitioners (Patient-centred Care scale mean range 4.22-4.70; Perceived Provider Suppost diverse practices across CM professions. CM practitioners may present a resource of person-centred care for addressing unmet needs of individuals with chronic conditions, and reducing the health burden associated with rising rates of chronic conditions.Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a growing phenomenon around the world. However, despite its historical role in Chinese society, there has been limited research on exploring the nature of TCM practitioner-patient interactions in the Chinese context. This study used 10 hours audio recordings of consultations to elucidate how a TCM practitioner used moments of 'touch' (where the term is used to represent the nature of holistic TCM interactions) for co-constructing understanding of the patients' body conditions. In these moments, the practitioner interacted with patients in order to explore their 'Zheng', the outcome of an in-depth analysis of all symptoms such as an imbalance in the pulse, lack of energy. This study illustrates how TCM practitioner strategically used discourse features in shaping the patient' understanding of their current body's conditions, and thus opened up space to elaborate their concerns or seek clarifications, leading to a holistic understanding and compliance with the recommended treatments. Specifically, the data show how the TCM practitioner through using the moments of 'touch' to shape the ongoing discourse so that the patients can have a better understanding of their illnesses. The results suggest that the long-term relationships between TCM practitioners and their patients can be developed through recognising the specific communication strategies used by the TCM practitioners in shaping the patient's understanding. If TCM practitioners can learn better communication skills, it will lead to better quality of interactions and reach better clinical outcomes such as high patient satisfaction and compliance with treatments.
To summarise the available evidence about the effectiveness of deep dry needling (DN) on spasticity, pain-related outcomes, and range-of-movement (ROM) in adults after stroke.
A computer search of Web of Science, Scopus, Medline, Cochrane Library, Cinahl, and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) was conducted. A hand search of the reference lists of the selected studies and other relevant publications was also undertaken. Studies were assessed by two independent reviewers and included if they complied with the following criteria (1) participants were adults after a stroke, (2) use of DN alone or within a multimodal approach, compared to no intervention or other treatments; (3) assessment of spasticity, pain, or joint ROM as a primary or secondary outcome. We included randomised controlled trials (RCTs), case series, and case reports. Data were extracted using a standardised protocol. A total of sixteen studies, 7 of which were RCTs, were selected. All studies generally reported an improvement of spasticity level, pain intensity, and ROM after the use of DN, alone or combined with other interventions, in stroke survivors.
