The FDA website was searched for trials supporting new hemato-oncology drug approvals from January 2010 to December 2017. Matching ClinicalTrials.gov entries were compared to identify modifications. Associated publications were reviewed for reporting of these changes. Of 69 included trials, five (7%) had post accrual modifications in primary outcome and 30 (43%) had modifications in planned sample size. Sample size was increased in 24 trials (median 66 patients, IQR 35-95, median relative increase of 40% from initial sample size) and was decreased in 6 trials (median 38 patients, IQR 27-60, median relative decrease of 25%). None of the primary outcome modifications and only 53% of the sample size modifications were reported in the related publications. Further improvement is warranted in order to achieve complete transparency in reporting landmark studies.Latinas in the United States are more likely to be diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer (BC) compared to non-Latinas. Literacy-appropriate and culturally sensitive cancer communication interventions can help address existing racial/ethnic BC disparities. We formatively developed a new BC prevention brochure for Spanish-speaking Latinas (≥35 years). Eligible women (n = 240) from a large public hospital in California were randomly assigned to one of three study arms Group 1 received the new brochure, Group 2 included a community health worker (CHW) who delivered the new brochure's content, and a control group received a standard educational brochure. Participants completed three surveys (baseline, postintervention, 3-month follow-up) with a 100% completion rate for the first two surveys and 80.4% completion after 3 months. We assessed the difference in outcomes for BC risk knowledge, perceived BC susceptibility, and BC information self-efficacy between groups. Participant mean age was 52.3 years, and 82.1% reported low English proficiency. Mean knowledge scores increased and perceived BC susceptibility improved for all groups (p ≤ .05), yet treatment effects were not significant between groups for these outcomes. BC information self-efficacy also increased from baseline to postintervention for all groups to >80%. After 3 months, only Group 2 and the control group retained their increases and treatment effects were significant only for Group 2 compared to other groups in unadjusted and adjusted models. A CHW-delivered intervention may be more effective in improving BC information self-efficacy among Latinas compared to print material alone. More research is needed to examine the efficacy of CHW-delivered interventions.Purpose The present study investigated the role of free curcuminoids bioavailability on the relative radioprotective efficacy of natural unformulated curcuminoids.Materials and Methods A food-grade bioavailable formulation of curcuminoids as curcumagalactomannosides (CGM) and unformulated curcuminoids (UC) were employed for the study. Swiss albino mice were randomized into Normal control, Radiation control, Radiation + UC, and Radiation + CGM groups and irradiated with γ-radiation of 6, 8, 10 and 12 Gy. Survival rate, hematological and biochemical parameters, bone marrow cellularity, chromosomal aberrations and histopathology of intestine were followed as a measure of the relative efficacy.Results and Discussion Oral administration with both UC and CGM at 100 mg/kg. b.wt. produced significant radioprotective effect over the untreated control group of animals. However, CGM treatment was found to provide better clastogenic and genotoxic potential as compared to UC. Further, the histopathology analysis of intestine confirmed the better protective effect of CGM over UC-treated animals.Conclusion The present study demonstrated the positive role of the bioavailability of curcuminoids in the amelioration of radiation-induced damages in mice since CGM treatment exerted better survival rate and radioprotective effect as compared with UC, despite the relatively low concentrations of curcuminoids in CGM (39% w/w).Objective Major life transitions, such as the arrival of a new baby, can be stressful, and therefore, costly to one's health. Being in a satisfying romantic relationship has been previously linked with better health, perhaps because it provides access to a bank of psychosocial resources. The objective of the present research was two-fold. Metabolism inhibitor First, we examined whether prenatal relationship satisfaction benefitted mothers' postpartum health. Second, we examined whether this association was mediated by reduced postpartum stress. Design Pregnant women (N = 431) were drawn from a larger prospective pregnancy and birth cohort study. Main Outcome Measures Participants reported on their relationship satisfaction, perceived stress, and perceived health at two time points 24-26 weeks of gestation and 6 months postpartum. Results Greater prenatal romantic satisfaction predicted enhanced perceived postpartum health, and reduced perceived postpartum stress appeared to mediate this link. Conclusion This research demonstrates that greater prenatal relationship satisfaction is associated with better postpartum health and provides evidence for one potential mechanism for this link the reduction of perceived postpartum stress. Thus, assessments of women's prenatal relationship satisfaction may help identify those who are at higher risk of experiencing poor postpartum health. Implications for interventions are discussed.Executive function (EF) represents a set of higher-order cognitive skills that permit engagement in goal-oriented behavior. EF deficits are associated with wide-ranging negative health-related consequences, including psychopathology and engagement in risky health-related behaviors. Because neural substrates supporting EF develop over a protracted period of time, an extended window of vulnerability exists whereby environmental stressors can interrupt development, culminating in lifelong EF deficits. We capitalized on this understanding of the vulnerability of EF-relevant neural structures to elucidate the link between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and early mortality. ACEs are highly prevalent in the general population and exert negative downstream implications for many health-related behaviors, ultimately hastening mortality. However, underlying mechanisms linking ACEs with poor health remain less understood. To address this gap in the literature, we assessed ACE history and health factors, including psychopathology and risky alcohol use behaviors in undergraduates.
