Importantly, exposure to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) and perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) were associated with increased levels of TGs with saturated fatty acids while multiple classes of phospholipids were decreased. In addition, several free fatty acids showed significant positive correlations with PFOS.
Our results indicated that prenatal exposure to PFAS mediated metabolic changes, which may explain the associations reported between PFAS exposure and metabolic health later in life.

Bleeding pseudoaneurysm (PSA) is a rare but potentially lethal complication of chronic pancreatitis (CP). It requires expeditious management by a multidisciplinary team. The study aims to report our experience with PSA in the background of CP.
All the patients, who underwent intervention for CP-related PSA between August 2007 and December 2020 in the Department of Surgical gastroenterology, Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Kolkata, India were retrospectively reviewed.
Of the total 26 patients, 25 (96%) were men with a median age of 38 (11-63) years. The most commonly involved vessel was the splenic artery (n = 18, 69%). The interval between onset of GI bleed and intervention was 7 (0-120) days. Embolization was attempted in 11(42%) patients and was successful in six patients. Surgery was performed in 20 (77%) patients including five patients after failed embolization. The most commonly performed operation was distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy. The median operating time was 216 (115-313) minutes. The median intraoperative blood loss was 325 (100-1000) ml. Seventeen (85%) patients' required intraoperative blood transfusion. Four patients in the embolization group and five patients in the surgical group developed procedure-related complications. The most common postoperative complication was wound infection followed by pancreatic fistula. There was no procedure-related death. Over a median follow-up of 24 (6-122) months, no patient developed recurrent hemorrhage.
Both embolization and surgery play an important role in the management of PSA. The choice of procedure depends upon the local availability and feasibility of a particular technique.

The study aimed to provide a molecular basis for the stress responses, the synthesis of biotransformation, and antioxidant enzymes in particular. Adult medaka fish (Hd-rR strain) were exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of humic acid for 96 h. The actual humic acid concentrations in water were determined photometrically and expressed as organic carbon concentrations. Liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry was used for protein profile analysis of medaka liver samples. The relative amount of isozymes was determined using the label-free quantification approach. Hepatic biotransformation enzyme activities were measured as well. Thus, ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase activity showed a pronounced induction at the highest tested concentration (9.4 mg C/L). Various biotransformation and antioxidant isozymes responded to humic acid differently, reflecting a balanced interplay of proteins that ensures the metabolism of humic acid in fish liver. Some isozymes were not affected by humic acid. The study provides new insight into the molecular mechanisms of the fish stress response to the humic acid-related challenge. To cope with relentless environmental pressures, plants produce an arsenal of structurally diverse chemicals, often called specialized metabolites. These lineage-specific compounds are derived from the simple building blocks made by ubiquitous core metabolic pathways. Although the structures of many specialized metabolites are known, the underlying metabolic pathways and the evolutionary events that have shaped the plant chemical diversity landscape are only beginning to be understood. However, with the advent of multi-omics data sets and the relative ease of studying pathways in previously intractable non-model species, plant specialized metabolic pathways are now being systematically identified. These large datasets also provide a foundation for comparative, phylogeny-guided studies of plant metabolism. Comparisons of metabolic traits and features like chemical abundances, enzyme activities, or gene sequences from phylogenetically diverse plants provide insights into how metabolic pathways evolved. This review highlights the power of studying evolution through the lens of comparative biochemistry, particularly how placing metabolism into a phylogenetic context can help a researcher identify the metabolic innovations enabling the evolution of structurally diverse plant metabolites.Three-dimensional carbon aerogel (CA800) was prepared from waste corrugated cardboard (WCC) by the procedure of slurrying, solvent replacement, drying, and carbonization in turn, and the product was explored as an all-in-one evaporator for solar steam generation without bulk water. Carbonization of the precursor was investigated using thermogravimetric analyzer coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. Results showed that CO2, CO, furfural, and levoglucosan were released during pyrolysis of WCC within the range of 300 to 390 °C, while polymerization of newly formed char between 390 and 580 °C mainly resulted in the formation of CO2 and CO. Both pyrolysis and polymerization reactions can be described by diffusion-controlled mechanisms, and the activation energies were 155.62 and 11.17 kJ mol-1, respectively. CA800 possessed a BET surface area of 210 m2 g-1. Light can be effectively absorbed and converted into heat by CA800, and its surface temperature achieving 73 °C under 1 kW m-2 irradiation. CA800 had outstanding wettability due to the presence of hydrophilic minerals in carbon matrix, and it was able to store as much as 15 times its own weight in water due to its abundant interconnected channels and hierarchical nanopores. Solar-driven water evaporation rate over CA800 achieved 1.72 kg m-2 (normalized to projection area), which was nearly 6 times higher than the value achieved by the bare water system. The photothermal conversion efficiency was calculated to be 118 %, and the overestimated efficiency was caused by the environmental energy gained by the cold evaporation surface of CA800.In this study, the toxic effects of paraquat, one of the most commercially sold herbicides in the world, and the protective role of green tea leaf extract (GTLE) against these effects were investigated. Allium cepa L. bulbs (n = 16) were used as test material. One hundred milligrams per liter dose of paraquat and 190 and 380 mg/L doses of GTLE were preferred. Paraquat toxicity was investigated with the help of physiological (percent germination, root length, and weight gain), cytogenetic (mitotic index = MI, micronucleus = MN, and chromosomal damages = CAs), biochemical (superoxide dismutase = SOD, catalase = CAT, malondialdehyde = MDA), and anatomical (meristematic cell damages) parameters. A. cepa bulbs were divided into 6 groups as 1 control and 5 applications. The control group was germinated with tap water, and the application groups were germinated with paraquat and two different doses of GTLE. Germination was carried out at room temperature for 72 h. At the end of the period, A. cepa bulbs were prepareng on the dose. Therefore, GTLE can be used as an effective nutritional supplement to reduce or prevent the toxicity caused by environmental agents such as pesticides.Biosorption has been examined for the treatment of aqueous solutions containing uranium, a radiotoxic pollutant. Nevertheless, the evaluation of the role of process variables by experimental design on the use of hydroxyapatite and bone meal as biosorbents for uranium has not yet been previously addressed. In this study, the effects of adsorbent dosage (M), initial uranium concentrations ([U]0), and solution pH were investigated, using a two-level factorial design and response surface analysis. The experiments were performed in batch, with [U]0 of 100 and 500 mg L-1, pH 3 and 5, and adsorbent/uranium solution ratios of 5 and 15 g L-1. Contact time was fixed at 24 h. Removal rates were higher than 88%, with a maximum of 99% in optimized conditions. [U]0 and M were found to be the most influential variables in U removal in terms of adsorption capacity (q). The experiments revealed that bone meal holds higher adsorption capacity (49.87 mg g-1) and achieved the highest uranium removal (~ 100%) when compared to hydroxyapatite (q = 49.20 mg g-1, removal = 98.5%). The highest value of q for both biomaterials was obtained for [U]0 = 500 mg L-1, pH 3, and M = 5 g L-1. Concerning the removal percentage, bone meal achieved the best performance for [U]0 = 500 mg L-1, pH 3, and M = 15 g L-1. Further experiments were made with real radioactive waste, resulting in a high uranium adsorption capacity for both materials, with 22.11 mg g-1 for hydroxyapatite and 22.08 mg g-1 for bone meal, achieving uranium removal efficiencies higher than 99%.The world is in a clash between the perspectives of economic expansion and sustainable environment. The high pace of technological progress opens space for fostering economic growth but at the same time, it creates a big dilemma for humans in protecting the environmental quality. The environmentally specific technologies are expected to help human beings to achieve dual objectives of economic prosperity and environmental sustainability. Despite its importance, attention to the role of environmental-related technologies in reducing environmental degradation is limited. This paper, therefore, intends to discover the impact of environmental-related technologies on the ecological footprint for 20 OECD from 1990 to 2015. The results endorse a long-run relationship between ecological footprint and green technologies, renewable energy, international trade, energy intensity, and real income. Environmental-related technologies and renewable energy consumption are found to be impetuous to sustainable development. The study provides relevant implications for policymakers to support the development and adoption of green technologies. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) pollution in Taihu Lake Basin has caused widespread concern. However, the spatial temporal distribution of PAHs in the upstream rivers of Taihu Lake Basin remains largely unknown. Thus, this study aims to investigate the level, spatial distribution, sources, and environment risk caused by PAHs in upstream rivers of Taihu Lake Basin. selleck products The concentrations of total 16 PAHs (∑16PAHs) ranged from 188.64 to 1060.39 ng/g, with an average of 472.62 ng/g. High-molecular-weight (HMW) PAHs were the predominant compounds in most sample sites. The results of source analysis demonstrated that the PAH pollution was mainly sourced from mixture of combustion and direct petroleum spillage. The ecological risk assessment showed that moderate ecological risk caused by the PAH contaminants might occur in most sample sites. The incremental lifetime cancer risks (ILCRs) ranged from 2.07 ×10-4 - 2.66 × 10-3 for children and 9.66 ×10-5 - 1.24 × 10-3 for adult, indicating moderate cancer risk of PAH-contaminated sediments.
