The lock is designed to be hung externally on the door of commercial vehicles (trucks & vans) providing a visible deterrent and extra security. It can be used in conjunction with other anti-theft devices, and operates independently of the locking system that is provided by the manufacturer.

The LOCK TABLE command creates shared locks on all tables mentioned in the table specification. If a view table is specified, the lock also creates shared locks on all base tables that are beneath the view table. The LOCK table command is used for locking all tables in a specific database, a specific row, or a specific table. If only one row is specified prior to the table name it locks only the table that is specified is locked. If a row_spec> is specified and only the row in the table that is indicated by the key values or position in a results table is locked.

A ROW-EXCLUSIVE lock prevents simultaneous data modifications from altering and deleting rows in the table. This lock type can be obtained by UPDATE and DELETE statements and also INSERT, MERGE, and Vacuum statements. The locking mode of ROWSHARED is obtained through the UPDATE and DELETE and MERGE statements. This lock mode can also be acquired by ANALYZE statements CREATE statistis, COMMENT ON. This lock mode protects the table from concurrent schema changes and VACUUM runs.
