Ménière disease (MD) is an idiopathic inner ear disorder, and endolymphatic hydrops (EH) being considered to be its pathological basis. Currently, there is no gold standard for diagnosing MD. Previous study has reported visualized EH using MRI by intratympanic gadolinium-based contrast media (GBCM) administration (IT-Gd) in patients with MD, and this technique was gradually established for MD diagnosis. However, few studies reported their diagnostic sensitivity and specificity in clinical application. This prospective study aimed at investigating the clinical characteristics and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results of patients with MD, and analyzing the relationship between clinical results and MRI findings in MD patients. Our study shows that the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of MRI were 79.2% and 80.7% respectively. Lificiguat supplier Moreover, there was no significant correlation between hearing levels and cochlear grading scores, nor vestibular grading scores. The duration of disease was not significantly associated with cochlear or vestibular grading scores. These findings suggest that IT-Gd MRI offers reliable radiological diagnostic criteria for MD.Two pathophysiological different experimental models for multiple sclerosis were analyzed in parallel using quantitative proteomics in attempts to discover protein alterations applicable as diagnostic-, prognostic-, or treatment targets in human disease. The cuprizone model reflects de- and remyelination in multiple sclerosis, and the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE, MOG1-125) immune-mediated events. The frontal cortex, peripheral to severely inflicted areas in the CNS, was dissected and analyzed. The frontal cortex had previously not been characterized by proteomics at different disease stages, and novel protein alterations involved in protecting healthy tissue and assisting repair of inflicted areas might be discovered. Using TMT-labelling and mass spectrometry, 1871 of the proteins quantified overlapped between the two experimental models, and the fold change compared to controls was verified using label-free proteomics. Few similarities in frontal cortex between the two disease models were observed when regulated proteins and signaling pathways were compared. Legumain and C1Q complement proteins were among the most upregulated proteins in cuprizone and hemopexin in the EAE model. Immunohistochemistry showed that legumain expression in post-mortem multiple sclerosis brain tissue (n = 19) was significantly higher in the center and at the edge of white matter active and chronic active lesions. Legumain was associated with increased lesion activity and might be valuable as a drug target using specific inhibitors as already suggested for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Cerebrospinal fluid levels of legumain, C1q and hemopexin were not significantly different between multiple sclerosis patients, other neurological diseases, or healthy controls.Among the artists' materials of the nineteenth century, pastel crayons merit scientific interest since their early commercial formulations are mostly unknown and, until now, have been considerably less studied with respect to other contemporary painting materials. In this framework, research herein reports the results of a comprehensive multi-analytical study of 44 pastel crayons of two recognized brands (LeFranc and Dr. F. Schoenfeld) from the Munch museum collection of original materials belonging to Edvard Munch. The integrated use of complementary spectroscopic and hyphenated mass-spectrometry techniques allowed the compositional profiles of the crayons to be traced providing the identification of the inorganic and organic pigments, the fillers/extenders and the binders. All crayons resulted to be oil- based and the binder was identified to be a mixture of a drying oil (safflower or linseed oil), palm oil or Japan wax and beeswax. Among others, pigments such as ultramarine, chrome yellows, Prussian blue, manganese violet, viridian and madder lake have been identified. A significant alignment in formulations of the brands was observed with the only exception of the greens which showed distinctive pigment and filler compositions. The analytical information provided for these commercial artists' materials will be of great interest for academia, museum and other institutions hosting art collections dating from the same period and it will be used by the Munch museum to draw proper conservation strategies of its own artwork collections. We propose a strategy to modulate the decoherence dynamics of a two-level system, which interacts with a dissipative bosonic environment, by introducing an ancillary degree of freedom. It is revealed that the decay rate of the two-level system can be significantly suppressed under suitable steers of the assisted degree of freedom. Our result provides an alternative way to fight against decoherence and realize a controllable quantum dissipative dynamics.Yellow leaf disease caused by sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV) is one of the most prevalent diseases worldwide. In this study, six near-complete genome sequences of SCYLV were determined to be 5775-5881 bp in length. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the two SCYLV isolates from Réunion Island, France, and four from China were clustered into REU and CUB genotypes, respectively, based on 50 genomic sequences (this study = 6, GenBank = 44). Meanwhile, all 50 isolates were clustered into three phylogroups (G1-G3). Twelve significant recombinant events occurred in intra- and inter-phylogroups between geographical origins and host crops. Most recombinant hotspots were distributed in coat protein read-through protein (RTD), followed by ORF0 (P0) and ORF1 (P1). High genetic divergences of 12.4% for genomic sequences and 6.0-24.9% for individual genes were determined at nucleotide levels. The highest nucleotide diversity (π) was found in P0, followed by P1 and RdRP. In addition, purifying selection was a main factor restricting variability in SCYLV populations. Infrequent gene flow between Africa and the two subpopulations (Asia and America) were found, whereas frequent gene flow between Asia and America subpopulations was observed. Taken together, our findings facilitate understanding of genetic diversity and evolutionary dynamics of SCYLV.
