Locally invasive prolactinomas may create CSF fistulae through formation of dural and osseous skull base defects. Tumor shrinkage secondary to dopamine agonist therapy unmasks skull base defects, thus inducing CSF rhinorrhea. In these cases, repair of the leak may be achieved through collaborative surgical intervention by rhinologists and neurosurgeons. Multiple variables have been investigated as potential contributors to the risk of CSF rhinorrhea development in medically treated prolactinoma patients, with little consensus.

The aim of the study was to examine if renal denervation (RDN) would improve the survival rate in CHF induced by creation of aorto-caval fistula (ACF).Methods Fawn-hooded hypertensive rats (FHH), a genetic model of spontaneous hypertension associated with CKD development, were used. Fawn-hooded low-pressure rats (FHL), without CKD, served as controls. RDN was performed 4 weeks after creation of ACF and the follow-up period was 10 weeks.Results We found that intact (non-denervated) ACF FHH exhibited survival rate of 58.8% (20 out of 34 rats), significantly lower than in intact ACF FHL (81.3%, 26/32 rats). In intact ACF FHL albuminuria remained stable throughout the study, whereas in ACF FHH it increased significantly, up to a level 40-fold higher than the basal values. ACF FHL did not show increases in renal glomerular and tubulointerstitial injury as compared with FHL, while ACF FHH exhibited marked increases in kidney injury as compared with FHH. RDN did not improve the survival rate in either ACF FHL or ACF FHH and did not alter the course of albuminuria in ACF FHL. RDN attenuated the albuminuria, but did not reduce the kidney injury in ACF FHH.Conclusions Our present results support the notion that even modest CKD increases CHF-related mortality. RDN did not attenuate CHF-dependent mortality in ACF FHH, it delayed the progressive rise in albuminuria, but it did not reduce the degree of kidney injury.Sesquiterpenoids have been identified as natural compounds showing remarkable biological activities found in medicinal plants. The present review describes a comprehensive summary of biotransformation products of sesquiterpenoids and its structural modification utilizing a variety of biocatalysts including microorganisms, plant tissue culture and enzymes. This review covers recent literatures from 2007 until 2020 and highlights the experimental conditions for each biotransformation process.Background Recent evidence indicates that host-gut microbiota crosstalk has nonnegligible effects on host skeletal muscle, yet gut microbiota-regulating mechanisms remain obscure.Methods C57BL/6 mice were treated with a cocktail of antibiotics (Abx) to depress gut microbiota for 4 weeks. The profiles of gut microbiota and microbial bile acids were measured by 16S rRNA sequencing and ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC), respectively. We performed qPCR, western blot and ELISA assays in different tissue samples to evaluate FXR-FGF15/19 signaling.Results Abx treatment induced skeletal muscle atrophy in mice. These effects were associated with microbial dysbiosis and aberrant bile acid (BA) metabolism in intestine. Ileal farnesoid X receptor (FXR)-fibroblast growth factor 15 (FGF15) signaling was inhibited in response to microbial BA disturbance. Mechanistically, circulating FGF15 was decreased, which downregulated skeletal muscle protein synthesis through the extracellular-signal-regulated protein kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) signaling pathway.
