Thymoquinone (TQ), the bioactive constituent of Nigella Sativa seeds, is a well-known natural compound for the management of several types of cancers. The anti-cancer properties of thymoquinone are thought to be operated via intervening with various oncogenic pathways, prevention of inflammation and oxidative stress, inhibition of angiogenesis and metastasis, and induction of apoptosis, as well as up-regulation and down-regulation of specific tumor suppressor genes and tumor promoting genes, respectively. The proliferation of various tumor cells is inhibited by TQ via induction of cell cycle arrest, disruption of the microtubule organization, and downregulating cell survival protein expression. TQ induces G1 phase cell cycle arrest in human breast cancer, colon cancer and osteosarcoma cells through inhibiting the activation of cyclin E or cyclin D and up-regulating p27 and p21, a cyclin dependent kinase (Cdk) inhibitor. TQ concentration is a significant factor in targeting a particular cell cycle phase. While high concentration of TQ induces G2 phase arrest in human breast cancer (MCF-7) cells, low concentration causes S phase arrest. This review article provides mechanistic insights into the anticancer properties of thymoquinone. Background Chronic liver disease (CLD) patients are at greater risk for developing splenic artery aneurysm (SAA). Treatment for aneurysms > 2.5 cm in this population is considered. However, the procedure might be challenging in CLD patients, and complications may interfere in liver transplantation. We, therefore, sought to estimate the prevalence, growth rate and complications of SAA in patients with CLD. As secondary objective, we sought to evaluate whether those features differ in pre and post transplantation follow-up and among aneurysms with diameters greater or less than 2.5 cm at diagnosis. Patients and methods We searched for the terms "SAA" and "CLD" on CT or MRI reports from January 2009 to December 2016. Patients with single examination or less than 6 months follow-up were excluded. Results Fifty nine out of 2050 CLD patients presented SAA (prevalence of 2.9%). Fifteen patients were excluded (due to exclusion criteria). Forty-four CLD patients (mean age 55.9 years) presented 76 SAA (follow-up median of 27.2 months). Aneurysms presented mean size of 1.5 ± 0.74 cm at diagnosis and growth rate of 0.12 ± 0.14 cm/y. Two (4.5%) patients presented mild complications (aneurysm thrombosis). No significant differences were observed in the growth rates of aneurysms less then 2.5 cm and ≥ 2.5 cm or in the initial size and growth rates of aneurysms of patients submitted to and not submitted to liver transplantation. Conclusions The estimated prevalence of SAA in patients with DLC in the Brazilian population is 2.9% (CI95% 2.2-3.6%). Although SAA in CLD patients are less likely to remain stable and grow faster than in general population, aneurysms are usually diagnosed at smaller size and complications are rare. These findings might support conservative management with close surveillance, especially in smaller aneurysms.Despite menarche affecting half of the population, there is limited research into its effects and limited dialogue within UK society. As Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), which encompasses issues like puberty, becomes compulsory in all schools in England for the first time, understanding the impact of menarche is vital. This study aimed to explore the beliefs about and experiences of menarche amongst adolescent girls. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven participants aged 16-18 attending a secondary school in Warwickshire. A thematic analysis was carried out, with emerging themes discussed between two researchers. All participants had received some RSE teaching at school, although many felt that it did not provide sufficient detail. These sessions also occurred too late for some participants who had already reached menarche. A range of emotions were recalled at this milestone; while some girls felt prepared and mature, others reported disbelief and shame. Mothers were the most important person for guidance, while conversations with fathers about menstruation were generally avoided. GPs were not considered a source of advice, despite some participants experiencing significant symptoms and menstrual irregularity. It is clear that the impact of menarche should not be underestimated and stigma surrounding menstruation still exists today. To address these issues, suggested improvements include mixed gender teaching to promote open discussions and making the role of GPs more visible to the adolescent community.
Assessment of the impact of the thrombectomy learning curve on clinical outcomes is essential for developing healthcare system protocols.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of thrombectomy case volume on procedural and clinical outcomes in a Brazilian registry.

A total of 645 patients with acute ischemic stroke treated by thrombectomy were included in the analysis. Patients were divided into two groups regarding the period of treatment the early period group and the late period group.

In the adjusted analysis, treatment in the late period was an independent predictor of recanalization (odds ratio 1.91, 95% CI 1.28-2.86) and excellent neurologic outcomes at three months (odds ratio 1.77, 95% CI 1.04-3.01). Treatment in the late period had no significant association with mortality (odds ratio 0.88, 95% CI 0.55-1.41).

An increase in thrombectomy case volume for the treatment of AIS over time was an independent predictor of recanalization and excellent neurologic outcome.

Intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) is one of the most challenging stroke etiologies, with frequent recurrences despite optimized medical management. Encephaloduroarteriosynangiosis (EDAS) is an indirect revascularization method that produces extra-cranial collaterals to intracranial vessels. We present the results of a phase-II trial of EDAS in intracranial atherosclerotic disease patients.

To evaluate the feasibility, safety, and preliminary efficacy of EDAS in intracranial atherosclerotic disease patients.

ERSIAS was a prospective objective-performance-criterion trial of EDAS plus intensive medical management (IMM) in intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) patients failing medical treatment. Primary endpoint was any stroke/death within 30-days post-surgery or stroke in the territory of the qualifying artery beyond 30 days. Avotaciclib CDK inhibitor The primary analysis compared event rates through one year with an objective-performance-criterion based on a 10% reduction from the 20% rate in the intensive medical ical management, supporting advancement to a seamless phase-IIb/III trial.

URL https//www.clinicaltrials.gov.NCT01819597.We test two theories explaining domestic exploitation and violent abuse against women in couples. Exchange theory predicts both to increase when men outpower women; status inconsistency, when women do. As violence and exploitation can affect a couple's resources, making the model recursive, we focus on native status. Using data from a women's victimization survey (N = 8,000), we apply biprobit models to compare violent abuse and domestic exploitation in homogeneous and mixed couples in which one is a migrant. The results validate status inconsistency theory native women with male migrant partners are less exploited but have the highest risks of being abused.
Luxation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is an acute condition associated with translocation of the condylar joint out of its functional position. Traumatic causes are more common in childhood, while non-traumatic causes are very rare.

A 6-month-old patient was brought to a rural hospital emergency department with the inability to close her mouth. The patient was diagnosed with anterior TMJ luxation after the examination, and no additional imaging was requested. Reduction was performed with gas sedation accompanied by paracetamol for pain.

In rare cases, non-traumatic TMJ luxation may be observed after excessive crying or vomiting in infants. Examination findings are generally sufficient for diagnosis. Reduction is performed with the classical manual method, especially in childhood. One issue that should not be ignored is the possibility of recurrence after dislocation.

To characterize the clinical features, treatment, and prognosis of superior mesenteric artery aneurysms and provide evidence for clinical decision-making.

We retrospectively reviewed the diagnosis and treatment of 18 cases of superior mesenteric artery aneurysm admitted to our center from 2003 to 2020, including demographic data, risk factors, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment strategies, and follow-up results.

The average age of the patients was 49.1 years, and males accounted 83.3%. The development of the disease was associated with infection, hypertension, pancreatitis, and trauma, but no significant associations with atherosclerosis were noted by our results. Nine patients were diagnosed with true aneurysm, seven patients with pseudoaneurysm, and two patients with dissecting aneurysm. Rupture of aneurysm occurred in three patients (16.7%), and one of them died before surgery. The surgery success rate was 94.1%, and open surgery was performed on nine patients, endovascular surgery on three patients, and conservative treatment on three patients. The follow-up rate was 77.8% (14/18), and the average follow-up time was 48.2 months. The mortality and reintervention rate during follow-up was 0. The two-year patency rate of artificial vessels and covered stents was 50%.

The clinical manifestations and features of superior mesenteric artery aneurysms vary between patients. Careful evaluation of vascular anatomy and personalized treatment strategy are critical in the management of superior mesenteric artery aneurysms. Midterm follow-up results of superior mesenteric artery aneurysms are satisfactory.

Sidama is one of the most densely populated areas in Ethiopia. Information about the demographic characteristics is scarce, and most studies were census based on interviews. Earlier population studies from Ethiopia did not sufficiently address the validity of measuring births, deaths, and age-composition.

To investigate the population characteristics in Sidama with an emphasis on fertility estimates, age, and death reporting.

This is a mixed-method cross-sectional study, conducted in Sidama in southern Ethiopia, using baseline data of newly established Dale-Wonsho Health and Demographic Surveillance System site in 2018. We used quantitative data of 5179 randomly selected households having 25,144 individuals. We collected information on deaths in the same study period and population from the traditional burial associations (
). Qualitative data were collected using focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews. Life tables, age reliability indices and logistic regression were used to analyse the data.
