We used whole-mounted retinas labelled with double cone markers to quantify the orientations of individual double cones in relation to their nearest neighbours. In both species, our data show that the double cone array is highly ordered the angles between neighbouring double cones were more likely to be 90°/-90° in the central retina and 180°/0° in the peripheral retina, respectively. The observed regularity in double cone orientation could aid the cells' putative function in light-dependent magnetoreception and/or polarized light sensing.Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal quality indices (SQIs) are essential for improving diagnostic accuracy and reliability of ECG analysis systems. In various practical applications, the ECG signals are corrupted by different types of noise. These corrupted ECG signals often provide insufficient and incorrect information regarding a patient's health. To solve this problem, signal quality measurements should be made before an ECG signal is used for decision-making. This paper investigates the robustness of existing popular statistical signal quality indices (SSQIs) relative power of QRS complex (SQIp), skewness (SQIskew), signal-to-noise ratio (SQIsnr), higher order statistics SQI (SQIhos) and peakedness of kurtosis (SQIkur). We analysed the robustness of these SSQIs against different window sizes across diverse datasets. Results showed that the performance of SSQIs considerably fluctuates against varying datasets, whereas the impact of varying window sizes was minimal. This fluctuation occurred due to the use of a static threshold value for classifying noise-free ECG signals from the raw ECG signals. Another drawback of these SSQIs is the bias towards noise-free ECG signals, that limits their usefulness in clinical settings. In summary, the fixed threshold-based SSQIs cannot be used as a robust noise detection system. In order to solve this fixed threshold problem, other techniques can be developed using adaptive thresholds and machine-learning mechanisms.
This study aimed to explore the practice-representation links among Health Care Professionals (HCP)s practising Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE). Understanding these links might actually help to address the challenges of TPE implementation, particularly the patient-centred dimension.

A qualitative study using individual interviews was conducted with HCPs practising in French-speaking Belgium or in France. Data analysis was carried out in two steps to draw up a typology of educational practices (including variations) and, in line with the Social Representation Theory, to identify possible related social representations.

The typology, based on HCP-Patient power distribution, was built from 26 interviews. Four types and nine subtypes were identified. Besides the power distribution, practice (sub)types were also specific regarding communication modes, consideration for patients' representations, motivational approach, personalization, complexity of methods and learning contents, and practice reflexivity. Practices were seldom constant. Three variations were highlighted within a subtype, between different subtypes, and between education and technical care. Both practice subtypes and variations were related to specific decisive representations.

Representations related to practices and those related to practices variations offer new perspectives for TPE implementation. There is no panacea for achieving more patient-centred approaches; tailored strategies based on practice subtypes are needed.

Methods A total of 388 recruited patients completed routine blood, liver and kidney function, D-dimer, troponin T, brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) or N-terminal prohormone of BNP, ECG and echocardiography tests before and after adjuvant chemotherapy. 25 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were tested. Results A total of 277 adjuvant chemotherapy-related cardiac toxicity events were recorded in 180 patients (46.4%). The authors' review focuses on the beneficial traits of bacteriocins for further application as templates for the design of novel drugs. Treatments that combine bacteriocins with other antimicrobials to combat pervasive MRSA infections are also highlighted.
