Triptolide (TPL) is a natural compound and active component of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F., an Asian native woody vine widely used for over 200 years in Chinese medicine. Hot water, ethanol-ethyl acetate, and chloroform-methanol extracts are the first reported TPL preparations in the literature, and since then, several studies for application in inflammation processes and cancer are described due to the antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and immunosuppressive characteristics of the molecule. However, physicochemical properties such as poor solubility and bioavailability are the main concerns regarding the TPL safety and efficacy in clinical studies since trials have reported adverse side effects alongside the excellent TPL therapeutic effects. Here, we review the main TPL applications and issues related to the drug usage, and a comprehensive summary of diseases is provided. Special emphasis is given to drug delivery systems designed to overcome the TPL physicochemical characteristics such as poor drug solubility, and how to increase efficacy and obtain a safe drug profile. The increasing trend of chest CT utilization during the COVID-19 pandemic necessitates novel protocols with reduced dose and maintained diagnostic accuracy. We aimed to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of 30-mAs chest CT protocol in comparison with a 150-mAs standard-dose routine protocol for imaging of COVID-19 pneumonia.

Upon IRB approval, consecutive laboratory-confirmed positive COVID-19 patients aged 50years or older who were referred for chest CT scan and had same-day normal CXR were invited to participate in this prospective study. First, a standard-dose chest CT scan (150mAs) was performed. Only if typical COVID-19 pneumonia features were identified, then a low-dose CT (30mAs) was done immediately. Diagnostic accuracy of low-dose and standard-dose CT in the detection of typical COVID-19 pneumonia features were compared.

Twenty patients with a mean age of 64.20 ± 13.8 were enrolled in the study. There was excellent intrareader agreement in detecting typical findings of COVID-19 pneumonia between low-dose and standard-dose (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] = 0.98-0.99, P values < 0.001 all readers). The mean effective dose values in standard- and low-dose groups were 6.60 ± 1.47 and 1.80 ± 0.42mSv, respectively. Also, absolute cancer risk per mean cumulative effective dose values obtained from the standard- and low-dose CT examinations were 2.71 × 10
and 0.74 × 10
, respectively.

According to our study, it was found that proposed low-dose CT chest protocol is reliable in detecting COVID-19 pneumonia in daily practice with significant reduction in radiation dose and estimated cancer risk.

Detailed on-site process investigations and data collection studies were carried out in the mill. Process-based specific auxiliary chemical and dyestuff consumptions were calculated. Process and composite wastewater samples were collected at different periods and analyzed. The chemical loads of wastewaters were also calculated. The specific dyestuff and auxiliary chemical consumptions of the mill were compared with the data of a similar textile mill in the literature and the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC), Textile Best Available Techniques Reference (BREF) document. Thus, the chemical saving potential of the mill was evaluated. see more A detailed chemical inventory study was also carried out in the mill. The material safety data sheets (MSDSs) of 371 chemicals were examined in terms of biodegradation ratio, toxicity, and micropollutant content. As a result, 23 chemicals were proposed to be replaced with environmentally friendly substitutes. A total of 10 minimization and substitution practices were identified for the mill according to the investigation and analysis results. After the implementation of the suggested practices, reductions of 15-32 and 13-37% are estimated to be achieved in total chemical consumption and chemical oxygen demand (COD) load of wastewater, respectively. The potential payback periods of the suggested practices were calculated to range between 4 and 36 months. The employed methodology and the findings of this study may be useful for similar textile mills, stakeholders, and regulators. This study may also provide a road map to the textile industry for their sustainable and green production applications.Exposure to suboptimal ambient temperature during pregnancy has been reported as a potential teratogen of fetal development. However, limited animal evidence is available regarding the impact of extreme temperatures on maternal pregnancy and the subsequent adverse pregnancy outcomes. Our objective in this study is to investigate the relationship between temperature and maternal stress during pregnancy in mice. This study used the Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) mice during the second and third pregnant weeks with the gestational day (GD) (GD 6.5-14.5 and GD 14.5-17.5). Mice were exposed to suboptimal ambient temperature (1 °C, 5 °C, 10 °C, 15 °C, 40 °C, 42 °C, 44 °C, 46 °C, and 48 °C for the experimental group and 23 °C for the control group) 1 h per day, 7 days a weekin each trimester. Measurements of placental development (placental weight [PW] and placental diameter [PD]) and fetal growth (fetal weight [FW] and crown-to-rump length [CRL]) between experimental and control groups were compared using ures may trigger adverse pregnancy outcomes and worsen embryo and fetal development in mice. The broad purpose of this study is to empirically explore the impact of globalization and financial development on environmental pollution by carbon (CO2) emissions in the six Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries using balanced panel data from 1971 to 2015. We also aimed to test the legitimacy of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis for this region. The fixed-effects approach preferred by the Hausman specification test is used to estimate the empirical model, and the feasible generalized least squares (F.G.L.S.) estimator is employed to cope with any issue of heteroscedasticity and serial correlation. This study found that globalization and financial development have adverse and significant effects on environmental degradation and affirm the legitimacy of the EKC hypothesis for these countries. The finding of this study suggests that the governments of MENA countries should design and implement appropriate policies for strengthening the renewable sources of energy like wind, solar, bio-fuel, and thermal to decrease CO2 emissions and boost sustainable economic development.
