Here, we document a rare and unique presentation of an accessory tragus (AT). A 3-year-old male presented with a 2-cm congenital post-auricular mass on his right side. Upon resection and histologic examination, the mass demonstrated histologic features consistent with an AT. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of an AT presenting posterior to the auricle.Victims of childhood sexual abuse are at an increased risk for a multitude of mental health conditions. While many children exhibit concerning behavioral changes following abuse, there is often a delay in identification and implementation of psychiatric services, resulting in worsening mental and physical health outcomes for victims. This case series aims to demonstrate the importance of multidisciplinary victim-centered and trauma-focused treatment including proactive psychiatric care. The review presents three cases of child victims of sexual abuse who received psychiatric care after their initial presentation to the Puerto Rico Health Justice Center (PRHJC). As evidenced by the following cases and extant literature, child victims of sexual abuse have an increased risk of severe mental health disorders. This indicates the importance of recognizing and understanding behavioral warning signs of childhood sexual abuse and the importance of psychiatric care as early as possible following disclosure.Cavernous carotid aneurysms (CCAs) are usually considered benign as the natural history of the condition is often asymptomatic; however, CCAs can reach giant proportions and become symptomatic, thus requiring treatment. We developed an automated manual resuscitator-based emergency ventilator-alternative (AMREV) that provides automated compressions of a BVM in a repetitive manner and is broadly compatible with commercially-available BVM devicesven commercially-available BVM setups and delivered consistent V T and P aw within 10% between models. In April 2020, clinicians in the United Kingdom identified eight cases of previously healthy children testing positive for current or recent infection with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) presenting with Kawasaki disease-like features. From April 16 to May 4, 2020, New York City reported that 15 patients aged 2-15 years were hospitalized with a similar multisystem inflammatory syndrome, many requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission. This syndrome is referred to either as pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome, or multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). We present the case of an eight-year-old with MIS-C who developed carotid artery dissection following venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) cannulation, followed by a subsequent hemorrhagic stroke in the basal ganglia.Objective Although the urban emergency workforce is well studied, rural departments are less understood. This study seeks to further define the landscape of rural healthcare and expand on previous studies of the West Virginia (WV) workforce. Methods During the second quarter of 2019, surveys were sent via email to medical directors' professional IDs as anonymous survey links. Hard copies were also sent to directors at their hospital addresses. Responses were aggregated with hospitals stratified based on annual census and rural classification. Data was interpreted through descriptive analysis. Results Surveys were sent to 53 departments with a 55% response rate. Of the responding hospitals, 15 of 29 were identified as rural. The average state-wide annual hospital census was 29,500 visits with board-certified emergency medicine (EM)-trained physicians covering 67% of shifts. Rural departments have a smaller census and less specialized coverage. Full-time physicians are found to have the strongest ties to WV, with 65% attending medical school, residency, or growing up in the state.
