Using the genome-centric metatranscriptomics, we provided the first in-situ expression patterns of comammox Nitrospira along the Yangtze River. Our study confirmed widespread expressions of comammox Nitrospira, with the highest transcription accounting for 33.3% and 63.8% of amoA and nxrAB genes expressed in ammonia-oxidizing prokaryotes (AOPs) and Nitrospira sublineages I/II, respectively. Moreover, comammox two clades differed in nitrification, with clade A acting as the dominator to ammonia oxidation in comammox, and clade B contributing more transcripts to nitrite oxidation than to ammonia oxidation. Compared to canonical Nitrospira, comammox community had lower expressions of ammonia/nitrite transporters and nitrogen assimilatory genes, but far higher expressions in urea transport and hydng their contributions to biogeochemical carbon and nitrogen cycling with perspective of in-situ meta-omics as well as culture experiments.Microplastics are widely distributed throughout aquatic environments. Information about the vertical distribution and fate of microplastics in seawater remains limited. To elucidate the vertical distribution of microplastics, three to six vertical water column layers were sampled based on the thermocline depth, from which the vertical distribution and characteristics of microplastics larger than 20 μm were investigated in continental shelf and deep-sea waters around South Korea. In addition, microplastics incorporated into marine aggregates (aggregated fraction) were investigated to determine the contribution of aggregates to vertical transport of microplastics. The abundance of microplastics was in the range of 15-9,400 particles/m3. No consistent trend was observed in the overall vertical profiles. The size, shape and polymer compositions of microplastics at each station were generally comparable throughout the water column. Unexpectedly, high-density (HD; > 1.02 g/cm3) polymers accounted for an average of 73% of total microplastics. As polymer density increased, the proportion of microplastics less than 100 μm in size increased. HD polymers also accounted for 68% of the aerosol samples collected together with water samples. Due to the relatively high proportion of HD polymers in far-offshore waters, high-density solution should be used to extract microplastics, even from surface seawaters. The aggregated fraction accounted for 0-28.6% (average, 3.4%) of total microplastics. Marine aggregates are considered an important mechanism of transport for microplastics less dense than seawater to the deep-water column, but they showed lower proportions than expected in continental shelf and deep-sea waters around South Korea.Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a global issue, with 200 million women and girls thought to be affected. FGM is defined as removal of female external genitalia, either partial or total, for non-medical purposes. FGM is embedded in tradition, including cultural beliefs about sexual behaviour. Associated risks include haemorrhage, infection, death, dyspareunia, childbirth complications and psychological issues. Although FGM negatively impacts on women's psychological wellbeing, little is known about the impact on pregnancy experiences. Psychological consequences of FGM are likely to be intensified during pregnancy when women have concerns about their own and their baby's wellbeing. This mixed-method systematic review aimed to provide insight into the psychological impact of FGM on women who subsequently become pregnant. Nine electronic databases were searched, using a search strategy to identify relevant studies. Studies were considered for inclusion if they were primary studies (qualitative, quantitative or mixed-method) involving pregnant women of any age who have previously undergone FGM. Relevant studies were evaluated using the MMAT appraisal tool. Analysis was guided by the review questions and the evidence identified. One quantitative and 9 qualitative papers were included. Qualitative data were analysed using meta-ethnography. Narrative analysis of the quantitative study was conducted. Findings relate to power of choice linked to reinfibulation, deinfibulation, birth procedures and pain management; importance of knowledgeable and sensitive health care professionals; and relived trauma experienced during childbirth. These findings could inform the development of supportive interventions for women with FGM within maternity services.Social functioning is a central aspect in the treatment of people with psychosis, even more so with the recovery movement promoting an optimal life in one's environment. A good ability to function socially is, among other things, associated with fewer future complications and a better overall quality of life. However, prognostic markers currently in use (i.e., cognitive functioning) to predict an individual's subsequent functioning do not always produce conclusive results in individuals who have recently experienced a first episode of psychosis (FEP). The objective of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of theory of mind in FEP individuals. Thirty-seven individuals who were followed in a FEP clinic were recruited for the study. PEF and HPP treatments resulted in a better retention of bioactive compounds (increase in TPC in the range of ~4-11% and ~10-14% and TFC in the range of ~1-5% and ~6-8% after HPP and PEF, respectively) and antioxidant activity (as measured with CUPRAC method) compared to untreated sample.
