Cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit of vaccination were cited by all the key interviewees (n = 12). However, based on the quantitative microbial risk assessment model, vaccination alone may not be sufficiently effective to reduce the annual human salmonellosis prevalence. A combination of different control measures along the food chain, with a special focus on interventions at the slaughterhouse, might be more effective in achieving the desired goal than vaccination alone.Colorimetric and fluorescent detection of F- have attracted enormous interest owing to their simplicity, low-cost and high selectivity. However, traditional colorimetric and fluorescent sensors mainly based on the insoluble and toxic organic molecules, which is not favorable for sensing F- in water media and living cells. In this work, we designed fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) with excellent water solubility and good biocompatibility as a colorimetric and fluorescent dual-model probe for the detection of F-. The CDs were prepared by a green, one-step hydrothermal strategy from wheat straw without any additives and surface passivation. The obtained CDs exhibited a bright blue fluorescence, special response to F- and low cytotoxicity. More interestingly, a significant color change from light yellow to red can be observed by the naked eye upon addition of F- ions to the CDs solution probably due to the formation of hydrogen bonding between CDs and F-. Besides, the fluorescence of CDs also can be selectively quenched by F- with the detection limit of about 49 μM. Additionally, the CDs are also applied to intracellular imaging and sensing of F- in living cells. This strategy may provide a new method for the detection of F- in water media and biological systems. This work presents the application of EC-SERS spectroscopy for the detection of caffeine consumption from human saliva. Caffeine and paraxanthine as the major metabolite of caffeine were tested. Model samples of saliva spiked with caffeine were investigated, and detection of caffeine in real-life saliva samples was tested in order to ensure the viability of the method for clinical applications. Two doses of caffeine (2 mg/kg and 3.5 mg/kg) were ingested by volunteers, and their saliva samples were taken at different time periods ranging from 1 h to 10 h after the consumption. Density functional theory calculations of caffeine and paraxanthine adsorbed on the silver surface were performed in order to better understand the adsorption of the investigated molecules and to make a correct assignment of the experimental spectral bands of the EC-SERS spectra. It was determined that a low dose caffeine consumption can be detected by the appearance of the SERS spectral marker band of caffeine and paraxanthine at 692 cm-1. The intensity of this band is mostly reasoned by the paraxanthine concentration since the intensity changes of the band over time correlates to the concentration changes of paraxanthine determined by the pharmacokinetic studies of paraxanthine and caffeine in the human saliva. It was found that the limit of detection paraxanthine in saliva by means of EC-SERS is as low as 15 μM and can be further improved. In this work, boron-doped carbon dots (B-CDs) with blue fluorescence and phosphorous-doped green emitting CDs (P-CDs) were encapsulated into zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) to prepare a dual-emission ratiometric fluorescence sensor for triticonazole. The B-CDs/P-CDs@ZIF-8 composite exhibited two emission peaks at 440 nm and 510 nm under a single wavelength excitation of 385 nm that respectively belong to B-CDs and P-CDs. In the presence of triticonazole, the fluorescence intensity of B-CDs remarkably declined while that of P-CDs remained unchanged. With increasing concentration of triticonazole, the fluorescence color of the ratiometric probe progressively changed from blue to green. Under the optimized conditions, B-CDs/P-CDs@ZIF-8 probe showed a high sensitivity with a linear range from 10 to 400 nM and a detection limit of 4.0 nM for triticonazole. The probe not only has an improved sensitivity through the accumulation of analyte molecules into the metal-organic framework but also has the advantages of ratiometric fluorescence measurements in terms of precision and accuracy. The applicability of the sensor was evaluated in the analysis of water and fruit juice samples.
The aim of this study was to evaluate obstetrical and perinatal outcomes in fetuses with short femur length diagnosed before or after 24 weeks of gestation.
This was a prospective cohort study on singleton pregnancies with a diagnosis of fetal femur < 5 centile. Included patients were divided into two groups patients with a first diagnosis of femur length < 5th percentile at 14-24 weeks (group A) and those with the first diagnosis made at > 24 weeks (group B).
147 patients were included for the analysis. PFK158 manufacturer Group A and group B included 66 (44.9%) and 81 (55.1%) cases. Abnormal fetal karyotype and skeletal dysplasia rates were significantly higher (27.3% vs 3.7%,P < 0.001 and 19.7% vs 3.7%, P = 0.002) in group A. Women in group B had a higher incidence of small for gestational age and intrauterine growth restriction (7.6% vs 24.7%, P = 0.007 and 19.7% vs 44.4%, P = 0.002). There was a significant higher incidence of live births in group B (34.9% vs 97.5%, P < 0.001), while the rate of termination of pregnancy was increased in group A (56.1% vs 1.2%, P < 0.001). No significant difference was found in perinatal outcomes of live births, when comparing group A and B.
The incidence of abnormal karyotype and skeletal dysplasia is higher when short femur length diagnosed earlier in gestation, while the incidence of small for gestational age, intrauterine growth restriction and the rate of live births are significantly increased when short femur length is diagnosed later during pregnancy.
The incidence of abnormal karyotype and skeletal dysplasia is higher when short femur length diagnosed earlier in gestation, while the incidence of small for gestational age, intrauterine growth restriction and the rate of live births are significantly increased when short femur length is diagnosed later during pregnancy.
