The damping analysis, which mimic the conditions of an experimental test of the literature, consisted of applying two different compressive loads to the jaw. The motion analysis evaluated the condylar path during the mandible centric depression by the action of muscular forces. From the results of both analyses, the contact pressures, intra-articular fluid pressure, path features, and stress/strain values were compared using the porous-fibrous and isotropic-hyperelastic models. Besides the great differences observed between patients due patient-specific morphology, the porous-fibrous approach yielded results closer to the reference experimental values and to the outcomes of other computational studies of the literature. Our findings underscore, therefore, the importance of considering realistic joint geometries and porous-fibrous contribution in the computational modelling of the TMJ, but also in the design of further joint replacements or in the development of new biomaterials for this joint.
While the pernicious effects of outdoor air pollution on cognitive ability have been previously examined, evidence regarding household air pollution is scarce.

Using data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey, we explored the relationship between cooking with biomass fuel and cognitive impairment and cognitive decline using a Cox proportional hazards model. We further assessed the correlation of biomass fuels and cognitive score using a generalized estimating equation. Cognitive ability was measured based on the Chinese version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and cognitive impairment was defined as MMSE < 24 points and cognitive decline was defined as a reduction of MMSE ≥ 3 points. On follow-up, we investigated the effect of switch-cooking combustibles on cognitive ability.

The mean (SD) age of 4161 participants was 81.7 (10.0) years old. The reported cooking with biomass fuels was correlated with an elevated risk of cognitive impairment (hazard ratio (HR) 1.19, 95% confe oldest-old population, this risk may, however, be lower for those changing their primary cooking fuels from biomass to clean fuels.

Epidemiological studies suggest that Bisphenol-A (BPA) is a developmental neurotoxicant, but the modifying effects of maternal nutrient status or neurotoxicant metal co-exposures have not been reported. Bisphenol-S (BPS) is being used as a BPA-alternative, but few epidemiological studies have evaluated its effects.

To examine if prenatal maternal BPA or BPS exposure are associated with children's neurodevelopment at two years of age while adjusting for effect-measure modification by sex, maternal nutrients, and co-exposure to neurotoxic metals.

Total BPA and BPS concentrations were analyzed in spot maternal urine from the second trimester; metals and maternal nutrient status were analyzed in blood. Child neurodevelopment was evaluated with the Bayley Scales of Infant Development-III (Bayley-III) at age 2 (394 maternal-child pairs) and linear regression was used to investigate associations.

Among nutrients and neurotoxic metals, selenium (Se) and cadmium (Cd) were the most significant predictors of Baypment are warranted.
Higher maternal Cd was associated with poorer motor development, but it was not an effect-measure modifier of bisphenols' effects on motor development. LDC7559 Maternal Se may be protective against adverse effects of bisphenols, and additional nutrient-bisphenol interaction studies examining sex-specific effects of BPA and BPS on child development are warranted.
Caregiver burden is frequently studied cross-sectionally, but longitudinal studies on family caregiver burden during active cancer treatment are lacking. The goals of this study were to characterize trajectories of caregivers' burden during a 6-month active treatment period, and to examine which predictors are associated with their burden.

This study was a secondary analysis of data from a prospective study. A sample of 112 family caregivers of patients receiving cancer treatment were assessed at three time points (the initiation of new treatment regimen, 3-, and 6-month follow-up). Caregivers completed measures Caregiver Reaction Assessment and Mutuality Scale of the Family Care Inventory. Data were analyzed using latent growth curve modeling.

The two highest burdens were subdomains related to disrupted schedule and financial problems. Models showed a decline in schedule burden over time, yet total burden and other subscales (financial problems, health problems, and lack of family support and self-estent and tailored support programs may be effective by focusing on patient-caregiver relationships, caregiving roles, and income.
To estimate the prevalence rate of gout and to explore the social factors that contributed to its development in the various sub-populations in medieval Cambridge.

177 adult individuals from four medieval cemeteries located in and around Cambridge, UK.

Lesions were assessed macroscopically and radiographically. Elements with lytic lesions were described and imaged using micro-computed tomography (μCT) to determine their morphology.

Gout was identified in 3 % of the population. Individuals buried in the friary had highest prevalence (14 %), with low prevalence rates in the Hospital (3 %) and town parish cemetery (2 %), with no cases in the rural parish cemetery. Gout was more prevalent during the 14th-15th centuries than the 10th-13th centuries.

The high prevalence rate of gout in the friary is at least partly explained by the consumption of alcohol and purine-rich diets by the friars and the wealthy townsfolk. Medieval medical texts from Cambridge show that gout (known as podagra) was sometimes treated with medications made from the root of the autumn crocus. This root contains colchicine, which is a medicine that is still used to treat gout today.

This is one of the first studies to assess the epidemiology of gout in medieval England and suggests that gout varied with social status.

Our sample size precludes statistical analysis.

Additional studies that assess the epidemiology of gout in medieval Europe is needed in order to be able to fully contextualize these findings.
