It creates an opportunity to reverse the transmission of HIV during pregnancy, labor, and breastfeeding. Thus, involving male partners during HIV screening of pregnant mothers at ANC is the key to fight against MTCT of HIV. Objective This study was designed to assess the magnitude and factors associated with male partner's involvement on PMTCT service utilization among pregnant women who attended focused antenatal care (FANC) in Southern Ethiopia. Methods An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 420 randomly selected pregnant women who enrolled in PMTCT service at ANC clinics. Pre-tested and structured self-administered questionnaires were used to collect the data. Design As part of a larger study, 188 preschoolers were clinically evaluated for early childhood caries diagnosis, at baseline and after 1-year follow-up. After that, the final sample comprised 1. children who had already caries at baseline (decayed, missing or filled surfaces, as well as white chalky white spot lesions adjacent to gingival margins) and developed at least one more cavitation after one year (n=16), and 2. children who never had or developed any caries lesions, including active white spots lesions (n=15). Before the clinical examinations, dental plaque was collected. PF concentration was determined with an ion-specific electrode. A chart was used to estimate the mean daily sugar exposure. The results were statistically analyzed by Spearman correlation and logistic regression analyses (α=0.05). Results After one year, a positive significant correlation between caries development and liquid sucrose, total sugar and total sucrose consumption increments was found (p less then 0.05). Moreover, the solid sugar, solid sucrose and total sugar exposure at baseline were positively correlated with the presence of dental plaque at follow-up (p less then 0.05). To top it all, children with PF concentrations ≤0.1 μg/mg at baseline were 10 times more likely to develop caries. Conclusion In conclusion, this study demonstrated for the first time in vivo that low PF concentration is a predictor of caries development in primary teeth. © 2020 Rizzardi et al.Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare but severe disorder that frequently has a genetic component and results from the overactivation of the alternative complement pathway. As research moves toward improved diagnosis and therapy of aHUS, it will be important to better understand its epidemiology. Our objective was to conduct a systematic literature review to assess the incidence and prevalence estimates of aHUS globally. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in Embase and MEDLINE. Additionally, practice guidelines, databases of national/international organizations, and regulatory agencies were searched. From 2960 publications identified via MEDLINE and Embase, 105 publications were eligible for full-text screening, and a total of eight full-text articles met eligibility criteria for inclusion. Regional epidemiologic estimates were obtained for Europe and Oceania. PMX-53 Country-specific data were available for France, Norway, Australia, and Italy. Four of the identified studies reported on the prevalence of aHUS, prevalence in the age group of 20 years or younger was ranging from 2.2 to 9.4 per million population, while the only study that reported prevalence in all ages showed a prevalence of 4.9 per million population. Six studies reported on the incidence of aHUS, annual incidence in the age group of 20 years or younger was ranging from 0.26 to 0.75 per million population, and for all ages, annual incidence was ranging from 0.23 to 1.9 per million population. To our knowledge, this is the first systematic review conducted to provide a comprehensive overview of global incidence and prevalence estimates of aHUS. In general, incidence estimates were similar across all the studies; however, prevalence data were found to be more variable. Study limitations were related to inconsistencies in the definitions of aHUS between studies and also a dearth of epidemiological studies assessing incidence and prevalence of aHUS outside of Europe. © 2020 Yan et al.Background Chronic inflammatory diseases in childhood and early adult life share aetiological factors operating from birth and onwards. In this study, we use data from the national Danish health registers to evaluate the risk of developing four common, immune-mediated hospital-diagnosed childhood chronic inflammatory diseases. Methods A national population-based registry study. Data from the Danish Medical Birth Registry and the Danish National Patient Registry from January 1973 to March 2016 were linked at a personal level to evaluate any potential associations between caesarean section and development of Inflammatory bowel diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, coeliac disease and diabetes mellitus among the offspring. A model adjusted for parental age at birth, decade of birth, gender of child, and parents' chronic inflammatory disease status was used. Results This register-based national cohort study of 2672708 children with information on delivery mode found an increased risk of diabetes, arthritis, coeliac disease, and inflammatory bowel disease for both girls and boys after caesarean section compared with vaginal delivery.
